  • Adaptive Modulation & Coding (AMC) is the method of varying the modulation and coding scheme for the changeable wireless channel environment. WiBro use AMC method because it has a very large variation caused by mobility interference and other cell interference. In this paper, we will compare and analysis the method of selecting the optimum MCS level for the efficiently use of mobile power consumption.

  • In the conventional PNC scheme, the relay node requires simultaneous transmission of two source nodes with strict power control and carrier-phase matching between two received symbols. However, this pre-equalization process at source nodes is not practical in fading channels. In this letter, we propose a novel physical-layer network coding (PNC) scheme with log-likelihood ratio (LLR) conversion for fading channels, which utilizes not pre-equalizer at transmitters (source nodes) but joint detector at receiver (relay node). The proposed PNC requires only channel side information at the receiver (CSIR), which is far more practical assumption in fading channels. In addition, the proposed PNC scheme can use the conventional modulation scheme like M-QAM regardless of modulation order, while the conventional PNC scheme requires reconfiguration of modulation scheme at the source nodes for detection of the received signal at relay node. We consider the combination of the proposed PNC and channel coding, and find that the proposed PNC scheme is easily combined the linear channel codes such as turbo codes, LDPC, and convolutional codes.

  • In this paper, we propose and observe a system that adopts Independent-MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level for each layer in the combined AMC-V-BLAST (Adaptive Modulation and Coding-Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) system. Also, comparing with the combined system using Common-MCS level, we observe throughput performance improvement. As a result of simulation, Independent-MCS level case adapts modulation and coding scheme for maximum throughput to each channel condition in separate layer, resulting in improved throughput compared to Common-MCS level case. Especially, the results show that the combined AMC-V-BLAST system with Independent-MCS level achieves a gain of 700kbps in $7dB{\sim}9dB$ SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) range.

  • Rain attenuation can cause a serious problem that an availability of space communication link on Ka band becomes low. To reduce the effect of rain attenuation on the error performance of space communications in Ka band, an adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) scheme is required. In this paper, to achieve a reliable telemetry data transmission, we propose an adaptive coding and modulation level using turbo code recommended by the consultative committee for space data systems (CCSDS) and various modulation methods (QPSK, 8PSK, 4+12 APSK, and 4+12+16 APSK) adopted in the digital video broadcasting-satellite2 (DVB-S2).

  • In this paper, we propose network-coding based two-way relay communication using adaptive modulation scheme for satisfying relay QoS(Quality of Service) according to channel environment between user and relay. Two-way relay communication is bidirectional cooperative communication that users exchange own signal with help of relay. Network-coding based two-way relay communication can achieve high throughput compared to conventional scheme through reducing time slots. we propose adaptive M-QAM modulation scheme in network-coding based two-way relay communication for satisfying QoS of relay. Simulation result shows that the proposed scheme satisfies goal QoS of system.

  • A key requirement for packet based wireless communication systems is to provide a high data rate packet service and improved throughput. To achieve a high throughput, adaptive methods for adjustment of the modulation and coding can be used. In this paper, we propose and analyze a scheme which is a combination of an adaptive modulation and coding(AMC) and transmit diversity(TD). Two different TD schemes are analysed: STTD and STD. Proposed system provides significant improvement in the average throughput.

  • The 16- and 32-state Trellis-coded M-ary 4-dimensional (4-D) orthogonal modulation scheme with a frequency-reuse technique have been investigated. Here, 5 coded bits form a rate 4/5 convolutional encoder provide 32 possible symbols. Then the signals are mapped by a M-ary 4-D orthogonal modulator, where each signal has equal energy and is PSK modulated. In the M-ary 4-D modulator, we have employed the vectors which is derived by the optimization technique of signal waveforms in a 4-D sphere. This technique is usedin maximizing the minimum Euclidean distance between a set of signal poits on a multidimensional sphere. By combinig trellis coding with M-ary 4-D modulation and proper set-partitioning, we have obtained a considerable impeovement in the free minimum distance of the system over an AWGN channel. The 16-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 5.5 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK scheme and 2.5 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme. And, the 32-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 6.4 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK schemeand 3.4 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme.

  • Recently, a lossless non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) implementation without successive interference cancellation (SIC) has been proposed in the literature of NOMA. This lossless non-SIC NOMA was achieved via correlated superposition coding (CSC), in contrast to conventional independent superposition coding (ISC). However, only the achievable data rates for CSC NOMA were investigated. Thus, this paper proposes a practical CSC NOMA scheme under Rayleigh fading channel environments. First, we design the practical CSC NOMA scheme, namely quadrature correlated superposition modulation (CSM) NOMA, without channel coding, i.e., uncoded systems. In addition, we calculate the symbol error rates (SERs) for this quadrature CSM NOMA scheme. Then, simulations demonstrate that for the weak channel gain's user, the SER performance of the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA is shown to be improved greatly, compared to that of the conventional quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) NOMA, whereas for the strong channel gain's user, the SER performance of the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA degrades a little, compared to that of the conventional QAM NOMA. As a result, the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA scheme could be considered as a practical NOMA scheme for CSC NOMA schemes toward the fifth-generation (5G) and next generation communications.

  • The demand on various broadcasting services has been greatly increasing in the area of mobile communication. In IEEE802.16e standard and mobile WiMAX, the multicast broadcast service (MBS) uses shared downlink channel for efficiently supporting a number of users. In this paper we propose a dynamic modulation and coding scheme with relay network to enhance the performance of MBS. The proposed approach employs the adaptive modulation and coding scheme for both the base station and relay station to achieve consistently high throughput. The result of computer simulation with NS-2 shows that the throughput and transmission time are significantly improved by using the proposed approach compared to the existing schemes having a fixed modulation level for the RSs.

  • To realize the wireless packet scheduler which efficiently considers both the effect of adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme due to variable wireless communication channel information from physical layer and the QoS differentiation of multimedia services from internet protocol (IP) layer, this paper proposes a new downlink AMC-based priority queuing (APQ) scheduler which combines AMC scheme and service priority method in multimedia services at the same time. The result of numerical analysis shows that the proposed APQ algorithm plays a role in increasing the number of services satisfying the mean waiting time requirements per each service in multimedia services because the APQ scheme allows the mean waiting time of each service to be reduced much more than existing packet scheduler having only user selection processor.
