Some additives were applied to improve Yukwa(Popped rice snack) quality and process modifications were tested for cutting down soaking time and application of rice flour. Addition of soaked soybean (3%, w/w) to dough showed higher expansion rate and better physical properties with more acceptable quality by sensory evaluation of Yukwa. Baking powder, modified starch and alcoholic liquor, Mackeali(rice wine, turbid). Soju(distilled liquor) and Yakju(rice wine, clear), were no positive effect on quality of Yukwa but alcoholic liquor gave more fine texture than others. High temprature soaking $(60^{\circ}C)$ of rice for 3 hours which is near gelatinization temperature of rice starch. gave same quality of Yukwa comparing with long time soaking (12 hours) at room temperature. Extention of high temperature soaking (12 hours) did not improve the quality of Yukwa. The 100 mesh of rice flour by dry milling method was better in expansion rate and hardness than 40 and 80mesh but it was worse than ordinary wet milling. It was notified that milling method and milling mechines for Yukwa preparation should be studied in more detail.
The behavior of conger eel, Astroconger myriaste(Brevoort), to the net pots with baits was investigated alternately in two experimental water tanks. One of the pots being dropped on the tank bottom, the eels increased rapidly in number of touching the pot to show a maximum whithin 30 minutes and then decreased gradually. The enterings of eels into the pots were also made mainly within 30 minutes and easier in pots with lower entrances. But the complete enterings were decided by the passage of eel tails through the pot entrances and so the eels retreated frequently after attemping to enter the pots, especially in pots small in the interval between the entrances and the baits or in pots with flappers. However, most of enterings encouraged the touches and earlier enterings ascribed earlier production of maximum touch. The eels, if entered the pots without flappers, got out of the pots relatively easily and the getting-out was easier in pots with lower entrances. On the other hand, the eels entered the pot with flappers could not get out of the pots. A comparison between the circular and square pots gave that the guidance of eels to the entrances was easier in the former and the passing of eels through the entrances in the latter, not only at the inside of pots but also at the outside. The general behavior of eels in touching or entering the net pots in the above results was almost equal to that on the bamboo and plastic pots in the previous paper.
In order to effectively utilize the by-products of sea-food, the utilization of enzyme-modified flounder(Limanda aspera) skin gelatin as an emulsifier was investigated. In the experiment, the gelatin was extracted from the flounder skin with the heat-treatment at $60^{\circ}C$ and in pH 5.0 for 3 hrs with four volumes of distilled water and emulsifiers were enzymatically modified L-leucine alkyl esters$(L-leucine-OC_n$ : n= 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10) to the gelatin$(EMFSG-C_2,\;EMFSG-C_4,\;EMFSG-C_6,\;EMFSG-C_8,\;EMFSG-C_{10})$ for improving the functional properties such as emulsifying activity, emulsifying viscosity, whippability, electric conductivity, critical micelle concentration and interface tension, etc. Also, the functional properties of the L-leucine alkyl ester modified gelatins were compared with those of Tween-60 as reference. Molecular weights of the enzymatically modified flounder skin gelatin(EMFSG) were 20.5kDa. in $EMFSG-C_2.\;19.5 kDa.\;in\;EMFSG-C_4\;and\;16.5kDa.\;in\;EMFSG-C_6,\;EMFSG-C_8$ and $EMFSG-C_{10}$. respectively. Emulsifying activity and emulsifying viscosity in the modified gelatins were risen with increase of carbon number of the introduced L-leucine alkyl esters. Among the modified gelatins, $EMFSG-C_6$ exhibited the highest emulsifying stability and foaming stability, whereas $EMFSG-C_8$ showed the highest whippability. The electric conductivities of the all $EMFSG-C_n$ were linearly risen to critical micelle concentration(CMC) , therefore $EMFSG-C_{10}$ exhibited the lowest CMC value and interface tension, and dense particles in the microscopic observation. In conclusion, the best quality in functional properties was assured on $EMFSG-C_{10}$.
Jacked pile that involves the use of hydraulic jacks to press the piles into the ground is free from noise and vibration, and is possibly installed within a limited construction area. Thus, as an alternative to conventional pile driving methods, pile jacking could become widely accepted for the construction projects in urban area (e.g., reconstruction or remodeling construction projects). Great concern has arisen over the prediction of axially loaded jacked pile behavior. Against this background, a series of pile load tests were hence conducted on a jacked steel pipe pile installed in weathered zone (i.e., weathered soil and weathered rock). From the test results, base resistance and shaft resistance for each test condition were evaluated and compared with the values predicted by the previous driven pile resistance assessment method. Test results showed that the previous driven pile resistance assessment method highly underestimated both the base and shaft resistances of a jacked pile; differences were more obviously observed with the shaft resistance. The reason for this discrepancy is that a driven pile normally experiences a larger number of loading/unloading cycles during installation, and therefore shows significantly degraded stiffness of surrounding soil. Based on the results of the pile load tests, particular attention was given to the modification of the previous driven pile resistance assessment method for investigating the axially loaded jacked pile behavior.
p53 undergoes various post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, sumoylation, acetylation, methylation, and poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation. Modification of p53 widely affects to various functions of p53. Acetylation and phosphorylation of p53 have been studied for regulating its transcriptional activity which is observed in various stress condition. Otherwise, ubiquitination of p53 by Mdm2 has been well-studied as a canonical ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation pathway. Moreover several investigators have recently reported that ubiquitination of p53 modulates not only its proteasome-dependent degradation by poly-ubiquitination but also its localization and transcriptional activity by mono-ubiquitination which usually does not serve the proteasome dependent degradation. Here we review recent studies on the cellular functions of p53 regulated by post-translational modifications, particularly focusing on mechanisms of ubiquitination.

The electrosorption of U(VI) from waste water was carried out by using activated carbon fiber(ACF) felt electrode in a continuous electrosorption cell. In order to enhance the electrosorption capacity at lower potential, ACF felt was chemically modified in acidic, basic and neutral solution. Pore structure and functional groups of chemically modified ACF were examined, and the effect of treatment conditions was studied for the adsorption of U(VI). Specific surface area of all ACFs decreases by this treatment. The amount of acidic functional groups decreases with basic and neutral salt treatment, while the amount increases a lot with acidic treatment. The electrosorption capacity of U(VI) decreases on using the acid treated electrode due to the shielding effect of acidic functional groups. Base treated electrode enhances the capacity due to the reduction of acidic functional groups. The electrosorption amount of U(VI) on the base treated electrode at -0.3 V corresponds to that of ACF electrode at -0.9 V. Such a good adsorption capacity was not only due to the reduction of shielding effect but also the increase of $OH^-$ in the electric double layer on ACF surface by the application of negative potential.
High-speed melt spinning of syndiotactic polystyrene was carried out using high and low molecular weight polymers, HM s-PS and LM s-PS, at the throughput rates of 3 and 6 g/min. The effect of take-up velocity on the structure and properties of as-spun fibers was investigated. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) patterns of the as-spun fibers revealed that the orientation-induced crystallization started to occur at the take-up velocities of 2-3 km/min. The crystal modification was a-form. Birefringence of as-spun fibers showed negative value, and the absolute value of birefringence increased with an increase in the take-up velocity. The cold crystallization temperature analyzed through the differential scanning calorimetry (OSC) decreased with an increase in the take-up velocity in the low speed region, whereas as the melting temperature increased after the on-set of orientation-induced crystallization. It was found that the fiber structure development proceeded from lower take-up velocities when the spinning conditions of higher molecular weight and lower throughput rate were adopted. The highest tensile modulus of 6.5 GPa was obtained for the fibers prepared at the spinning conditions of LM s-PS, 6 g/min and 5 km/min, whereas the highest tensile strength of 160 MPa was obtained for the HM s-PS fibers at the take-up velocity of 2 km/min. Elongation at break of as-spun fibers showed an abrupt increase, which was regarded as the brittle-ductile transition, in the low speed region, and subsequently decreased with an increase in the take-up velocity. There was a universal relation between the thermal and mechanical properties of as-spun fibers and the birefringence of as-spun fibers when the fibers were still amorphous. The orientation-induced crystallization was found to start when the birefringence reached -0.02. After the starting of the orientation-induced crystallization, thermal and mechanical properties of as-spun fibers with similar level of birefringence varied significantly depending on the processing conditions.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has permitted the use of Lime Kiln Dust (LKD) as a low-cost construction material in creating a workable platform for soil modification (not for soil stabilization) since the early 1990s on selected projects. However, the enhanced strength of soils with LKD has not been accounted for in the subgrade stability calculations in the design process. This study was initiated to evaluate how the lime kiln dust is a comparable material to hydrated lime. A series of laboratory tests were performed to assess the mechanical benefits of lime kiln dust in combination with various predominant fine grained soils encountered in the State of Indiana, such as A-4, A-6 and A-7-6. In the course of this study, several tests such as the Atterberg limits, standard Proctor, unconfined compression, CBR, volume stability, and resilient modulus were performed. As a result, mixtures of fine grained soils with 5% lime or 5% LKD substantially improve unconfined compressive strength up to 60% - 400%. CBR values for treated soils are in the range of 25 to 70 while those for untreated soils range from 3 to 18. In general, significant increase in resilient moduli of the soils treated with lime and LKD was observed. This indicates that lime kiln dust may be a viable, cost effective alternative to hydrated lime in enhancing the strength of fine grained soils.
Statement of Problem: Titanium has many advantages of high biocompatibility, physical porperties, low-weight, low price and radiolucency, but it is incompatible with conventional dental porcelain due to titanium's oxidative nature. Many previous studies have shown that they used the method of sandblast surface treatment prior to porcelain application, the researchs are processing about the method of acid etching or surface coating. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to study the effect on bond strength between titanium and porcelain when using macro-surface treatment and micro-surface treatment and macro and micro surface treatment. Material and method: In this study, we evaluated the bond strength by using 3-point bending test based on ISO 9693 after classified 7 groups-group P : polished with #1200 grit SiC paper, group SS : sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxides, group LS : sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ alumium oxides, group HC : treated with 10% hydrochloric acid, group NF : treated with 17% solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid, group SHC : treated with 10% hydrochloric aicd after sandblsting with $50{\mu}m$ alumium oxides, group SNF treated with 17% solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid. Results : Within the confines of our research, the following results can be deduced. 1. Group SS which was sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxides showed the highest bond strength of 61.74 MPa and significant differences(P<0.05). The bond strengths with porcelain in groups treated acid etching after sandblasting decreased more preferable than the group treated with sandblasting only. It gives significant differences(P<0.05). 2. After surface treatments, the group treated with sandblasting showed irregular aspect formed many undercuts, in the SEM photographs. The group treated with hydrochloric acid had the sharp serrated surfaces, the group treated with the solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid had the smooth surfaces, the group with sandblasting and hydrochloric acid had irrigular and porous structure, the group with sandblasting and the solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid had crater-like surfaces. But all of the groups treated with acid etching was not found and undercut. Conclusion: In above results, average surface roughness increase, bond strength also increase, but surface topographs influences more greatly on bond strengths.

This study investigated small group processes in paired think-aloud problem solving. Two high school chemistry classes were assigned to St-SL group (using Strategy-Solve Listener) and SL group (Solver Listener), and their small-group behaviors were audio/video taped. Verbal behaviors of solver and listener in respect to 4 problem-solving stages and performance levels at each stage were analyzed. At the understanding stage, listeners in the St-SL group exhibited more behaviors of agreement to solver's understanding processes about given and goal of problem. As regards recalling a related law at the planning stage, solvers in the St-SL group exhibited more behaviors of modification based on listener's questions or pointing out. These verbal interactions seemed to have a positive effect on students' deriving the physical quantity with the proper laws. Few in both SL and St-SL groups exhibited the behaviors regarding setting up subgoals. No verbal behavior was observed in the SL group at the reviewing stage, and solvers in the St-SL group tended to ask for listener's agreement. However, only few performed the strategy explaining the meaning of answer at the molecular level correctly through the interactions. The St-SL group perceived that the understanding stage was the most helpful and that the planning or reviewing stages were difficult to apply.
