This study covers the literature of theoretical backgrounds of royal ceremonial hair styles during Chosun Dynasty and demonstrates reproduction works of those hair styles reinterpreted in modern methods. As for the Chosun royal hair styles for ceremonies, there are Daesoo, Gudoomi, and Euyoumi for a royal queen, royal concubines, and royal lady attendants of Nae Myung Boo, department of general affairs of the royal court. These hair styles represents well that Chosun Dynasty kept its own class symbols through hair styles, which is valuable cultural resources of Korean traditional beauties. This study compares the new reproduction works of Daesoo, Gudoomi, and Euyoumi with existing literature pieces and related photos for clear understanding of these traditional hair styles. This study aims to activate the relevant researches into Korean traditonal hair styles, their reproduction methods and applicable usages in Modern Korea as well as useful data for them.

The markets are the basic urban facilities for maintaining daily life. Although the urban structure changed rapidly and the population quickly concentrated in the city, the markets remained traditional and backward. To solve various problems in the small excess markets, the Seoul Metropolitan Government had pushed ahead with the market modernization plan since 1967. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of establishing the market modernization plan and the progress of this project, and to identify the historical meaning of this plan. The results of this study as follows; The market modernization plan aimed to modernize market operation system as well as buildings, and the Government was able to achieve its first goal by enforcing the construction of high-rise buildings, as the markets were newly built with the relatively large scaled fireproof structures. Despite its various limitations, these markets were also regarded as the model of the modern market.

A ceramic vacuum chamber feedthrough ceramic insulator is made of Al2O3; the manufacturing process involves filling alumina powder into a urethane mold and pressing it with a rubber press to produce a molded body. Thereafter, manufacturing is completed through primary shape processing, sintering, and secondary shape processing in the green body, which is a pressurized molding body, This work is intended to prevent defects in the first shape processing by improving the ceramic insulator in the green body, and to improve the productivity of the ceramic insulator by determining the optimal processing conditions.

Panax ginseng Meyer has been widely used as a tonic in traditional Korean, Chinese, and Japanese herbal medicines and in Western herbal preparations for thousands of years. In the past, ginseng was very rare and was considered to have mysterious powers. Today, the efficacy of drugs must be tested through well-designed clinical trials or meta-analyses, and ginseng is no exception. In the present review, we discuss the functions of ginseng described in historical documents and describe how these functions are taken into account in herbal prescriptions. We also discuss the findings of experimental pharmacological research on the functions of ginseng in ginseng-containing prescriptions and how these prescriptions have been applied in modern therapeutic interventions. The present review on the functions of ginseng in traditional prescriptions helps to demystify ginseng and, as a result, may contribute to expanding the use of ginseng or ginseng-containing prescriptions.

Development trend of modern HSDI diesel engine is now focusing on low fuel consumption and emission because of strong interest in global environmental protection. Two big branches of criteria for modern diesel engine development are down sizing and down speeding. Down sizing keeps engine operation condition to the direction of higher load and thus pursuing for better thermal efficiency. But this may cause degraded vehicle dynamic performance because of reduced back up torque. Down speeding keeps engine operation condition to the direction of slightly higher load and lower engine speed. Therefore reduction of back up torque can be limited within flat torque area. This study analyzed fuel economy effect of down speeding on a vehicle powered by HSDI diesel engine in aspect of engine friction work, intake and exhaust pumping work, exhaust hat loss and thermal loss of fuel leakage of fuel injection system. Contribution factor of each engine and vehicle related parameters under basic and down speeding condition were compared and work balance of down speeding during NEDC was analyzed.

This study aims to examine current status of cultural products in Mokpo city and their problems and develop cultural products design suitable to this situation. Cultural products in Mokpo sold here are made from China and have lower quality or traditional crafts and folkcrafts which can be purchased anywhere in Korea and they are not enough to show identity or image of Mokpo city. So I mixed the logos of 'mokpo city' and 'national maritime museum' based on main motive of 'modern Korean ship and shipbuilding tools' held by 'National Maritime Museum' and 'Goebukseon (turtle ship)' and 'Hanseon' which are suitable to the image of maritime culture as cultural products advocated by Mokpo city and developed one design style for print. This design is applied to T-shirts, necktie, cap, cushion and mug. Silk print, transfer print and needlework techniques are applied to each item and the whole cultural products have design of set concept. It is a case of applying modern product marketing technique to our cultural products not a design for only one item, is aimed to recreate spiritual and cultural value that a region has as daily goods to be used by general consumers and show the chance and possibility to complement shortcomings of existing cultural products and develop traditional culture having locality.

Poet, Yi-sang, born in 1910, originally studied architecture in Kyeong Sung High Technical School. He also experienced an architectural practice in Chosun Chongdokbu (the Government office of Japanese empire in Korea) during 4 years. After resigned the post of architectural engineer in 1933, he became a man of letters. Until his death in 1937, he published the writings hard to understand, which remind us of the works of western avant-garde. Because of the peculiarity and difficulty of his poem and novels, he becomes the object of studies by many critics and historians of literature. And he is estimated as the representative of Korean modernism. This study tries to related Yi-sang's early poems to architectural discourse for the search of 'modernity' of Korean modern architecture. His early poems, which is published in from 1931 to 1933, are worthy of notice because they contained a acute shock derived from radically changed spacial structure, the absolute emptiness of the individual happened in the 1930's Seoul. They also show a different attitude from the writings of Park Dongjin and Park Kilryong, the architects contemporary with Yi-Sang. Compared with their writings, Yi sang's early poems had an insight into the totality of modern culture like western avant-gardes. Therefore Yi-sang's early poems can give us a good base to understand the characteristics of 'modernity' of Korean architecture.

A Study of the traditional Korean fishing boat is based on a report on an investigation of the Korean fishing boats, conducted in 1921. The report was completed in 1927 with the conclusion of the Southern Sea region and West Sea region studies, which included the investigation oj the entire region. It was a very thorough and scientific investigation of Korean fishing boats, which has been published in three volumes. Based on this report, this paper surveys the characteristics and the hull form of the traditional Korean fishing boats. As a result, we find ${\cdot}out$ that the hull form of the traditional Korean fishing boat is very similar to that of modern sailing boat. Thus, it is a good candidate for the development of the modern sailing boats for the Korean Sea.

This study examines how class differences are expressed through costumes based on the costumes of characters in Bong Joon-Ho's film . Based on Video on Demand (VOD), the main situations in which characters' costumes change in the play were captured and used as analysis data. Colors, textures, and color symbol were analyzed to find the formative properties shown in the characters' costumes. The results are as follows. The home wear of Kim's family were unsuitable for the top and bottom, faded clothes, and the vague boundary between outdoor and indoor clothes appeared. In comparison, Park's family's home wear was featured a modern and elegant design, a clear distinction that suited purpose and situation. Analysis of street wear showed that the Kim's family had a big difference before and after getting a job, and Park's family wore different costumes for the purpose of going out. Social class expressed in the film costumes were shown to have the characteristics of intrinsic class invariance, temporary class changes, differences in class expression by age, and differences in costume choice by class.

Vibration and vibration-induced noise, major sources of occupant complaint, are increasing in modern buildings, Lighter weight construction and equipment located in penthouses or intermediate level mechanical rooms increase structure-bone vibration and noise transmission. In this paper discusses about testing vibration isolation systems and about the effectness of floor flexibility for vibration transmission.
