  • Interior panels are usually used in finishing of interior walls for not only decorative effects but also information transfer. According to designer's design placing interior panels may need repetitive tasks and the emphasis of this paper is to support an automation of these tasks. Considering the utilization characteristics of interior panels, we propose three method to present patterns by using bitmap image pixels and interior panels' shape changes, based on the theoretical consideration. In addition, in order to approve the possibility of the proposed methods, we have implemented the BIM based interior panels auto layout tool which applied one of the three methods to present patterns by using bitmap image pixel values and panel identification attributes. This tool also supports auto generation of quantity and panel arrangement sequence information that will be used in future construction phase. We expect that this approach will also be used in other decorative objects which require repetition of the basic units, such as floor tiles.

  • In the recent period, there have been numerous earthquakes both domestically and internationally, and buildings in South Korea are particularly vulnerable to seismic design and earthquake damage. Therefore, the objective of this study is to discover an effective method for assessing the seismic vulnerability of buildings and conducting a density analysis of high-risk structures. The aim is to model this approach and validate it using data from pilot area(Seoul). To achieve this, two modeling techniques were employed, of which the predictive accuracy of the statistical analysis technique was 87%. Among the machine learning techniques, Random Forest Model exhibited the highest predictive accuracy, and the accuracy of the model on the Test Set was determined to be 97.1%. As a result of the analysis, the district rating revealed that Gwangjin-gu and Songpa-gu were relatively at higher risk, and the density analysis of at-risk buildings predicted that Seocho-gu, Gwanak-gu, and Gangseo-gu were relatively at higher risk. Finally, the result of the statistical analysis technique was predicted as more dangerous than those of the machine learning technique. However, considering that about 18.9% of the buildings in Seoul are designed to withstand the Seismic intensity of 6.5 (MMI), which is the standard for seismic-resistant design in South Korea, the result of the machine learning technique was predicted to be more accurate. The current research is limited in that it only considers buildings without taking into account factors such as population density, police stations, and fire stations. Considering these limitations in future studies would lead to more comprehensive and valuable research.

  • This study advances the knowledge of developmental patterns in affiliation with delinquent peers and delinquency during adolescence; data were obtained from waves 1-5 (2003-2007) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey. Semi-parametric group-based modeling (SGM) identified 3 affiliative trajectories of delinquent peers from age 13 to 16: rarely or never, persistently affiliative, and declining groups; and five developmental trajectories of delinquency: non-offending, late onset, low-level continuous, desisting, and chronic groups. A joint trajectory analysis predicted the membership of delinquency trajectories conditional on delinquent peer trajectories. Persistently affiliative group was more likely than others to follow chronic trajectory of delinquency; the rarely or never affiliative group was more likely to be non-offending. This study may help reconcile different theoretical models such as influence, selection, and enhancement models with respect to the role of delinquent peers in delinquency. The distinct theoretical models are equally valid, albeit each model pertains to a specific aspect of longitudinal patterns of affiliation with delinquent peers. Implications of this study for youth welfare were discussed to reduce increased risks for both affiliation with delinquent peers and delinquency.

  • The impact of competition on pricing has been studied in the context of counterfactual merger analyses where expected optimal prices in a hypothetical monopoly are compared with observed prices in an oligopolistic market. Such analyses would typically assume static decision making by consumers and firms and thus have been applied mostly to data obtained from consumer packed goods such as cereal and soft drinks. However such static modeling approach is not suitable when decision makers are forward looking. When it comes to the markets for durable products with indirect network effects, consumer purchase decisions and firm pricing decisions are inherently dynamic as they take into account future states when making purchase and pricing decisions. Researchers need to take into account the dynamic aspects of decision making both in the consumer side and in the supplier side for such markets. Firms in a two-sided market typically subsidize one side of the market to exploit the indirect network effect. Such pricing behaviors would be more prevalent in competitive markets where firms would try to win over the battle for standard. While such qualitative expectation on the relationship between pricing behaviors and competitive structures could be easily formed, little empirical studies have measured the extent to which the distinct pricing structure in two-sided markets depends on the competitive structure of the market. This paper develops an empirical model to measure the impact of competition on optimal pricing of durable products under indirect network effects. In order to measure the impact of exogenously determined competition among firms on pricing, we compare the equilibrium prices in the observed oligopoly market to those in a hypothetical monopoly market. In computing the equilibrium prices, we account for the forward looking behaviors of consumers and supplier. We first estimate a demand function that accounts for consumers' forward-looking behaviors and indirect network effects. And then, for the supply side, the pricing equation is obtained as an outcome of the Markov Perfect Nash Equilibrium in pricing. In doing so, we utilize numerical dynamic programming techniques. We apply our model to a data set obtained from the U.S. video game console market. The video game console market is considered a prototypical case of two-sided markets in which the platform typically subsidizes one side of market to expand the installed base anticipating larger revenues in the other side of market resulting from the expanded installed base. The data consist of monthly observations of price, hardware unit sales and the number of compatible software titles for Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 from September 1996 to August 2002. Sony PlayStation was released to the market a year before Nintendo 64 was launched. We compute the expected equilibrium price path for Nintendo 64 and Playstation for both oligopoly and for monopoly. Our analysis reveals that the price level differs significantly between two competition structures. The merged monopoly is expected to set prices higher by 14.8% for Sony PlayStation and 21.8% for Nintendo 64 on average than the independent firms in an oligopoly would do. And such removal of competition would result in a reduction in consumer value by 43.1%. Higher prices are expected for the hypothetical monopoly because the merged firm does not need to engage in the battle for industry standard. This result is attributed to the distinct property of a two-sided market that competing firms tend to set low prices particularly at the initial period to attract consumers at the introductory stage and to reinforce their own networks and eventually finally to dominate the market.

  • Objective : This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of play on the relationship between toddlers' sleep habits and problem-solving. Methods : In total, 1,734 participants were selected from the 3rd wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. A structural equation modeling approach was utilized to examine the relationship among toddlers' play, sleep habits, and problem-solving, as well as to investigate the mediating effect of play. Results : The monthly age of the study participants ranged from 23 to 32 months, with 885 (51.0%) boys and 849 (49.0%) girls. The indirect effects of play on problem-solving skills (β = 0.137, p = .006) were statistically significant, but the direct effects of sleep habits on problem-solving skills (β = -.015, p = .871) and the total effect (β = 0.122, p = .057) were not significant. Conclusion : This study indicated that sleep habits did not have a direct effect on problem-solving ability, but that the indirect effects were significant and fully mediated by play. Incorrect sleep habits can negatively affect lifelong development. Therefore, parents would need to be aware of whether their child is developing good sleep habits during the toddler age.

  • In March 2020, as it was declared a COVID-19 pandemic, various quarantine measures were taken. Accordingly, many changes have occurred in the tourism and hospitality industries. In particular, quarantine guidelines, such as the introduction of non-face-to-face services and social distancing, were implemented in the restaurant industry. For decades, research on restaurant attributes has emphasized the importance of three attributes: atmosphere, service quality, and food quality. Nevertheless, to the best of our knowledge, research on restaurant attributes considering the COVID-19 situation is insufficient. To respond to this call, this study attempted an exploratory approach to classify new restaurant attributes based on understanding environmental changes. This study considered 31,115 online reviews registered in Naverplace as an analysis unit, with 475 general restaurants located in Euljiro, Seoul. Further, we attempted to classify restaurant attributes by clustering words within online reviews through TF-IDF and LDA topic modeling techniques. As a result of the analysis, the factors of "prevention of infectious diseases" were derived as new attributes of restaurants in the context of COVID-19 situations, along with the atmosphere, service quality, and food quality. This study is of academic significance by expanding the literature of existing restaurant attributes in that it categorized the three attributes presented by existing restaurant attributes and further presented new attributes. Moreover, the analysis results have led to the formulation of practical recommendations, considering both the operational aspects of restaurants and policy implications.

  • This study utilized a discrete element method (DEM) simulation, as one of the virtual field trials, to predict the impact of tillage depth on the rotary blade shaft during rotavator tilling. The virtual field for the simulation was generated according to soil properties observed in an actual field. Following the generation of particles for the virtual field, a sequence of calibration steps followed to align the mechanical properties more closely with those of real soil. Calibration was conducted with a focus on bulk density and shear torque, resulting in calibration errors of just 0.02% for bulk density and 0.52% for shear torque. The prediction of the load on a rotary tiller's blade shaft involved a three-pronged approach, considering shaft torque, draft force, and vertical force. In terms of shaft torque, the values exhibited significant increases of 42.34% and 36.91% for every 5-centimeter increment in tillage depth. Similarly, the vertical force saw substantial growth by 40.41% and 36.08% for every 5-centimeter increment. In contrast, the variation in draft force based on tillage depth was comparatively lower at 18.49% and 0.96%, indicating that the effect of tillage depth on draft force was less pronounced than its impact on shaft torque and vertical force. From a perspective of agricultural machinery research, this study provides valuable insights into the DEM soil modeling process, accounting for changes in soil properties with varying tillage depths. These findings are expected to be instrumental in future agricultural machinery design studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze diurnal thermal environments using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV)-derived physical parameters(NDVI, SVF) and ENVI-met modeling. The research findings revealed significant correlations, with a significance level of 1%, between UAV-derived NDVI, SVF, and thermal environment elements such as S↑, S↓, L↓, L↑, Land Surface Temperature(LST), and Tmrt. In particular, NDVI showed a strong negative correlation with S↑, reaching a minimum of -0.52** at 12:00, and exhibited a positive correlation of 0.53** or higher with L↓ at all times. A significant negative correlation of -0.61** with LST was observed at 13:00, suggesting the high relevance of NDVI to long-wavelength radiation. Regarding SVF, the results showed a strong relationship with long-wave radiative flux, depending on the SVF range. These research findings offer an integrated approach to evaluating thermal comfort and microclimates in urban areas. Furthermore, they can be applied to understand the impact of urban design and landscape characteristics on pedestrian thermal comfort.

  • This study aims to test the relationship between brand embeddedness and cross-selling intention, as well as how customer satisfaction affects as mediator its relationship. The data set includes 258 consumers using a specific smartphone brand and we gather the data by conducting a survey. We use structural equation modeling to verify hypotheses and do nonparametric bootstrap approach for additional analysis of the mediating role of customer satisfaction. The results of analysis are as follows. First, it has been shown that barnd embeddedness positively affects customer satisfaction and cross-buying intention. Second, customer satisfaction is found to have a positive effect on cross-buying. By combining these results and additional analysis, we confirm that the direct effect of brand embeddedness is more effective for cross-buying intention than the indirect effect of customer satisfaction. The results of this empirical analysis show the academic value that brand embeddedness as social capital can be a antecedent for cross-buying intention. In addition, this study suggests the need for brand practitioners to increase the embeddedness of customers related to the brand and consider the mediating role of customer satisfaction together in order to increase cross-buying.

  • This study investigates the effects of privacy psychological characteristics of B2C logistics services users on their willingness to comply with their logistics companies' information protection policy. Using cognitive valence theory as a theoretical framework, this study proposes a research model to examine the relationships between users' logistics security knowledge, privacy trust, privacy risk, privacy concern, and their willingness of information protection policy compliance. To test the proposed model, we conducted a survey from actual users of logistics services and collected valid 151 samples. We analyzed the data using a structural equation modeling software. The empirical results show that logistics security knowledge positively affects privacy trust; privacy concern positively influences privacy risk; privacy trust, privacy risk, and privacy concern positively influence behavioral willingness of compliance. However, logistics security knowledge does not affect behavioral willingness of compliance. The results of the study provide several contributions to the literature of B2C logistics services domain and managerial implications to logistics services companies.
