Image stacking technique is one of the key techniques for complex surface reconstruction. The process includes sample collection, image processing, algorithm editing, surface reconstruction, and finally reaching reliable conclusions. Since this experiment is based on laser scanning confocal microscope to collect the original contour information of the sample, it is necessary to briefly introduce the relevant principle and operation method of laser scanning confocal microscope. After that, the original image is collected and processed, and the data is expanded by interpolation method. Meanwhile, several methods of surface reconstruction are listed. After comparing the advantages and disadvantages of each method, one-dimensional interpolation and volume rendering are finally used to reconstruct the 3D model. The experimental results show that the final 3d surface modeling is more consistent with the appearance information of the original samples. At the same time, the algorithm is simple and easy to understand, strong operability, and can meet the requirements of surface reconstruction of different types of samples.
The weight calculation in an iterative algorithm is the most computationally costly task in computed tomography image reconstruction. In this letter, a fast algorithm to speed up the weight calculation is proposed. The classic square pixel rotation approximate calculation method for computing the weights in the iterative algorithm is first analyzed and then improved by replacing the square pixel model with a circular pixel model and the square rotation approximation with a segmentation method of a circular area. Software simulation and hardware implementation results show that our proposed scheme can not only improve the definition of the reconstructed image but also accelerate the reconstruction.

We have developed a planar impact model with a capability of reverse calculation to reconstruct various types of automobile collisions. This topic is the main part of what is referred to as accident reconstruction. The model uses the principle of impulse and momentum, and introduces a restitution coefficient and an impulse ratio at the impact center. Based on the car-to-car collision test results, we present how to estimate the restitution coefficient and the impulse ratio from some impact conditions. To validate the model and improve its reliability in accident analysis, the collision analysis has been performer with the estimated parameters. The analysis and experimental results agree well in the kinetic energy loss and the post-impact velocity.

Due to harsh conditions of disaster areas, understanding of current feature of collapsed buildings, terrain, and other infrastructures is critical issue for disaster managers. However, because of difficulties in acquiring the geographical information of the disaster site such as large disaster site and limited capability of rescue workers, comprehensive site investigation of current location of survivors buried under the remains of the building is not an easy task for disaster managers. To overcome these circumstances of disaster site, this study makes use of an unmanned aerial vehicle, commonly known as a drone to effectively acquire current image data from the large disaster areas. The framework of 3D model reconstruction of disaster site using aerial imagery acquired by drones was also presented. The proposed methodology is expected to assist rescue workers and disaster managers in achieving a rapid and accurate identification of survivors under the collapsed building.
This paper proposes a structural damage identification approach based on the power spectral density transmissibility (PSDT), which is developed to formulate the relationship between two sets of auto-spectral density functions of output responses. The accuracy of response reconstruction with PSDT is investigated and the damage identification in structures is conducted with measured acceleration responses from the damaged state. Numerical studies on a seven-storey plane frame structure are conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed damage identification approach. The initial finite element model of the structure and measured acceleration measurements from the damaged structure are used for the identification with a dynamic response sensitivity-based model updating method. The simulated damages can be identified accurately without and with a 5% noise effect included in the simulated responses. Experimental studies on a steel plane frame structure in the laboratory are performed to further verify the accuracy of response reconstruction with PSDT and validate the proposed damage identification approach. The locations of the introduced damage are detected accurately and the stiffness reductions in the damaged elements are identified close to the true values. The identification results demonstrated the accuracy of response reconstruction as well as the correctness and efficiency of the proposed damage identification approach.
This paper proposes a resolution enhancement method which can reconstruct high-resolution facial images from single-frame, low-resolution facial images. The proposed method is derived from example-based reconstruction methods and the morphable face model. In order to improve the performance of the example-based reconstruction, we propose the region-based reconstruction method which can maintain the characteristics of local facial regions. Also, in order to use the capability of the morphable face model to face resolution enhancement problems, we define the extended morphable face model in which an extended face is composed of a low-resolution face, its interpolated high-resolution face, and the high-resolution equivalent, and then an extended face is separated by an extended shape vector and an extended texture vector. The encouraging results show that the proposed methods can be used to improve the performance of face recognition systems, particularly to enhance the resolution of facial images captured from visual surveillance systems.
In order to contain as much information as possible in a single image, a wide FOV(Field-Of-View) imaging system is required. The catadioptric imaging system with hyperbolic cylinder mirror can acquire over 180 degree horizontal FOV realtime panorama image by using a conventional camera. Because the hyperbolic cylinder mirror has a curved surface in horizontal axis, the original image acquired from the imaging system has the geometrical distortion, which requires the image processing algorithm for reconstruction. In this paper, the image reconstruction algorithms for two cases are studied: (1) to obtain an image with uniform angular resolution and (2) to obtain horizontally rectilinear image. The image acquisition model of the hyperbolic cylinder mirror imaging system is analyzed by the geometrical optics and the image reconstruction algorithms are proposed based on the image acquisition model. To show the validity of the proposed algorithms, experiments are carried out and presented in this paper. The experimental results show that the reconstructed images have a uniform angular resolution and a rectilinear form in horizontal axis, which are natural to human.
One of the typical methods for lowering radiation dose while maintaining image quality of computed tomography (CT) is the use of model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR). This study is to evaluate the image quality by adjusting the strength of the advanced modeled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE), which is well known as a representative model of MBIR. The study was conducted using phantom, and CT images were obtained while adjusting the strength of ADMIRE in units of 1 to 5. Quantitative evaluation includes noise levels using coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR), as well as natural image quality evaluation (NIQE) and blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator (BRISQUE). As a result, in both noise level and blind quality evaluation results, the higher the strength of ADMIRE, the better the results were derived. In particular, it was confirmed that COV and CNR were improved 1.89 and 1.75 times at ADMIRE 5 compared to ADMIRE 1, respectively, and NIQE and BRISQUE were proved to be improved 1.35 and 1.22 times at ADMIRE 5 compared to ADMIRE 1, respectively. In conclusion, this study was proved that the reconstruction strength of ADMIRE had a great influence on the noise level and overall image quality evaluation of CT images.
In the radiation treatment planning (RTP) process, especially for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), knowing the exact volume and shape and the precise position of a lesion is very important. Sometimes X-ray projection images, such as angiograms, become the best choice for lesion identification. However, while the exact target position can be acquired by bi-projection images, 3D target reconstruction from bi-projection images is considered to be impossible. The aim of this study was to reconstruct the 3D target volume from multiple projection images. It was assumed that we knew the exact target position in advance, and all processes were performed in Target Coordinates, where the origin was the center of the target. We used six projections: two projections were used to make a Reconstruction Box and four projections were for image acquisition. The Reconstruction Box was made up of voxels of 3D matrices. Projection images were transformed into 3D in this virtual box using a geometric back-projection method. The resolution and the accuracy of the reconstructed target volume were dependent on the target size. An algorithm was applied to an ellipsoid model and a horseshoe-shaped model. Projection images were created geometrically using C program language, and reconstruction was also performed using C program language and Matlab ver. 6(The Mathwork Inc., USA). For the ellipsoid model, the reconstructed volume was slightly overestimated, but the target shape and position proved to be correct. For the horseshoe-shaped model, reconstructed volume was somewhat different from the original target model, but there was a considerable improvement in determining the target volume.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop hydroxyapatite cement simplified procedures for reconstruction of craniofacial deformities. Due to its expense and characteristics of quick hardening time, it may be inappropriate for forehead reconstruction or augmentation. Therefore we hear by introduce a more precise, easy and cheap method. The authors report forehead reconstruction with hydroxyapatite cement for a patient who suffered from craniofacial deformity. Methods: Case report and literature review. Results: A 35 year old man came to us with forehead and temporal area depression. He had a history of brain operations due to traumatic epidural hematoma. A physical exam showed an evidence of right side forehead weakness sign. Authors made RP model of his skull and applied check framework with Kirschner's wires for measuring accurate volume and contour on the depressed right side forehead area on the RP model. After complete exposure of defect area by bicoronary insicion, absorbable plate which applied on skull area was removed. Using three Kirschner's wires, authors made check framework on the right forehead lively and fixed with 2-hole miniplates on the boundary of the defect. After checking asymmetry, hydroxyapatite was applied on check shape framework just above Kirschner's wire. After removing Kirschner's wire, we corrected minimal unbalance and contour with bur. Conclusion: Check framework with Kirschner's wire was very convenient and cost saving methods for forehead reconstruction with hydroxyapatite cement.
