  • In this study, we performed verification of VSRF (Very Short Range Forecast of precipitation) model and application of NWSPC (National Weather Service PC) rainfall-runoff model in Kyoungan-chun basin. We used two methods for verification of VSRF model. The first method is a meteorological verification that evaluates the special quality feature for rain amount between AWS and VSRF model over Kyoungan-chun basin, while second method is a hydrological verification that compares the calculated Mean Area Precipitation (MAP) between AWS and VSRF Quantitatively. This study examines the usefulness of VSRF precipitation forecasting model data in NWSPC hydrological model. As a result, correlation coefficient is over 0.6 within 3 hour lead time. It represents that the forecast results from VSRF are useful for water resources application.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent deployment of sensor network for reliable communication. The proposed method determines optimal transmission range based on the wireless channel characteristics, and searches the optimal number of sensor nodes, and optimal locations with SOFM. We calculate PRR against a distance uses the log-normal path loss model, and decide the communication range of sensor node from PRR. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we performed simulations on the searching for intelligent deployment and checking for link condition of sensor network.

  • Soil carbon(C) is an essential property for characterizing soil quality. Understanding spatial patterns of soil C is particularly limited for mountain areas. This study aims to predict the spatial pattern of soil C using terrain analysis in a steep mountainous area. Specifically, model performances and prediction uncertainties were investigated based on the number of resampling repetitions. Further, important predictors for soil C were also identified. Finally, the spatial distribution of uncertainty was analyzed. A total of 91 soil samples were collected via conditioned latin hypercube sampling and a digital soil C map was developed using support vector regression which is one of the powerful machine learning methods. Results showed that there were no distinct differences of model performances depending on the number of repetitions except for 10-fold cross validation. For soil C, elevation and surface curvature were selected as important predictors by recursive feature elimination. Soil C showed higher values in higher elevation and concave slopes. The spatial pattern of soil C might possibly reflect lateral movement of water and materials along the surface configuration of the study area. The higher values of uncertainty in higher elevation and concave slopes might be related to geomorphological characteristics of the research area and the sampling design. This study is believed to provide a better understanding of the relationship between geomorphology and soil C in the mountainous ecosystem.

  • In computer vision, single-image super resolution has been an area of research for a significant period. Traditional techniques involve interpolation-based methods such as Nearest-neighbor, Bilinear, and Bicubic for image restoration. Although implementations of convolutional neural networks have provided outstanding results in recent years, efficiency and single model multi-scalability have been its challenges. Furthermore, previous works haven't placed enough emphasis on real-number scalability. Interpolation-based techniques, however, have no limit in terms of scalability as they are able to upscale images to any desired size. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network possessing the advantages of the interpolation-based techniques, which is also efficient, deeming it suitable in practical implementations. It consists of convolutional layers applied on the low-resolution space, post-up-sampling along the end hidden layers, and additional layers on high-resolution space. Up-sampling is applied on a multiple channeled feature map via bicubic interpolation using a single model. Experiments on architectural structure, layer reduction, and real-number scale training are executed with results proving efficient amongst multi-scale learning (including scale multi-path-learning) based models.

  • UAV have the disadvantage that are weak from rainfall or winds due to the light platform, so use Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) method which extrude keypoints in image matching process. To find the efficient filtering method for the construction of precise Digital Terrain Model (DTM) using UAV images, comparatively analyzed sobel and Differential of Gaussian (DoG) and found sobel is more efficient way to extrude buildings, trees, and so on. And edges are extruded more clearly when applying median additionally which have the merit of preserving edge and eliminating noise. In this study, applied sobel-median filtering which plus median to sobel and constructed the 1st filtered DTM that extrude building and trees and 2nd filtered DTM that extrude cars by threshold of gradient, Analysis of the degree of accuracy improvement showed that standard deviations of 1st filtered DTM and 2nd filtered DTM are 0.32m, 0.287m respectively, and both are acceptable for the tolerance of 0.33m for elevation points of 1/1,000 digital map, and the accuracy was increased about 10% by filtering automobiles. Plus, moving things are changed those position and direction in every image, and these are not target to filter because of the characteristic that is excluded from SIFT method.

  • Underground Geospatial Information Map Management System(UGIMMS) integrates various underground facilities in the underground space into 3D mesh data, and supports to check the 3D image and location of the underground facilities in the mobile app. However, there is a problem that it takes a long time to run in the app because various underground facilities can exist in some areas executed by the app and can be seen layer by layer. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based K-means vertex clustering algorithm as a method to reduce the execution time in the app by reducing the size of the data by reducing the number of vertices in the 3D mesh data within the range that does not cause a problem in visibility. First, our proposed method obtains refined vertex feature information through a deep learning encoder-decoder based model. And second, the method was simplified by grouping similar vertices through K-means vertex clustering using feature information. As a result of the experiment, when the vertices of various underground facilities were reduced by 30% with the proposed method, the 3D image model was slightly deformed, but there was no missing part, so there was no problem in checking it in the app.

  • Crop classification is very important for estimating crop yield and figuring out accurate cultivation area. The purpose of this study is to classify crops harvested in fall in Idam-ri, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do by using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images and support vector machine (SVM) model. The study proceeded in the order of image acquisition, variable extraction, model building, and evaluation. First, RGB and multispectral image were acquired on September 13, 2021. Independent variables which were applied to Farm-Map, consisted gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM)-based texture characteristics by using RGB images, and multispectral reflectance data. The crop classification model was built using texture characteristics and reflectance data, and finally, accuracy evaluation was performed using the error matrix. As a result of the study, the classification model consisted of four types to compare the classification accuracy according to the combination of independent variables. The result of four types of model analysis, recursive feature elimination (RFE) model showed the highest accuracy with an overall accuracy (OA) of 88.64%, Kappa coefficient of 0.84. UAV-based RGB and multispectral images effectively classified cabbage, rice and soybean when the SVM model was applied. The results of this study provided capacity usefully in classifying crops using single-period images. These technologies are expected to improve the accuracy and efficiency of crop cultivation area surveys by supplementing additional data learning, and to provide basic data for estimating crop yields.

  • In recent, the hydrological regime of the Mekong river is changing drastically due to climate change and haphazard watershed development including dam construction. Information of hydrologic feature like streamflow of the Mekong river are required for water disaster prevention and sustainable water resources development in the river sharing countries. In this study, runoff simulations at the Kratie station of the lower Mekong river are performed using SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool), a physics-based hydrologic model, and LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), a data-driven deep learning algorithm. The SWAT model was set up based on globally-available database (topography: HydroSHED, landuse: GLCF-MODIS, soil: FAO-Soil map, rainfall: APHRODITE, etc) and then simulated daily discharge from 2003 to 2007. The LSTM was built using deep learning open-source library TensorFlow and the deep-layer neural networks of the LSTM were trained based merely on daily water level data of 10 upper stations of the Kratie during two periods: 2000~2002 and 2008~2014. Then, LSTM simulated daily discharge for 2003~2007 as in SWAT model. The simulation results show that Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) of each model were calculated at 0.9(SWAT) and 0.99(LSTM), respectively. In order to simply simulate hydrological time series of ungauged large watersheds, data-driven model like the LSTM method is more applicable than the physics-based hydrological model having complexity due to various database pressure because it is able to memorize the preceding time series sequences and reflect them to prediction.

  • We propose an novel artificial visual attention model that is capable of automatic detection and segmentation of saliency region on natural images in this paper. The proposed model is based on human visual perceptions in biological vision and contains there are main contributions. Firstly, we propose a novel framework of artificial visual attention model based on the opponent process theory using intensity and color features, and an entropy filter is designed to perceive salient regions considering the amount of information from intensity and color feature channels. The entropy filter is able to detect and segment salient regions in high segmentation accuracy and precision. Lastly, we also propose an adaptive combination method to generate a final saliency map. This method estimates scores about intensity and color conspicuous maps from each perception model and combines the conspicuous maps with weight derived from scores. In evaluation of saliency map by ROC analysis, the AUC of proposed model as 0.9256 approximately improved 15% whereas the AUC of previous state-of-the-art models as 0.7824. And in evaluation of salient region segmentation, the F-beta of proposed model as 0.7325 approximately improved 22% whereas the F-beta of previous state-of-the-art models.
