  • 본 연구에서는 위에서 언급한바와 같은 제반사항들에 대해 이론적인 해석을 행하고, 그 결과를 이용하여 설계된 모델이 생체내에 이식될 수 있는 가능성의 여부를 판단하며 생체내에 이식 되었을 때의 성능과 생체에 미치는 영향등을 예측하고자 한다.

  • This paper considers the acoustical characteristics of the mechanical valve employed in the Korean type Artificial Heart. $Bj\"{o}rk-Shiley$ tilting disc valve was chosen for the study and acoustic measurements were performed for the artificial heart operated in a mock circulation system as well as implanted to an animal as a Bi Ventricular Assist Device (BVAD). In the mock system, three different conditions of the valve were examined which were normal, damaged (torn off), pseudothrombus attached. Microphone measurements for the BVAD were carried out at a regular time interval for 5 days after the implantation operation. Of the recorded acoustic emissions from the artificial heart, click sounds mainly originated from the valves were further analyzed using Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) for estimating their spectral properties. It was shown that the spectral peaks below 4 kHz and the optimal order number for MUSIC, equivalent to the number of the spectral component, might be the key parameters which were highly correlated to the physiological states of the valve like the mechanical damage of the valve or the formation of thrombus on the valves.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop diaphragm-type pneumatic ventricular assist device(VAD) for clinical application and to evaluate its performance through the mock circulation system. The blood housing and diaphragm are made by coating pellethane on the metallic mold and the back plate is made by machining process. The relations of cardiac output(CO) vs. beat rate and CO vs. systolic-to-diastolic rate was estimated through the mock test and hemodynamic waves are recorded for the evaluation of VAD. As a result, the volume of blood pump is 70 ml, maximum CO is 5 L/min and CO has a close relation to the input resistance of blood pump. The hemodynamic data and waves showed this system can be applicable to the animal experiment.

  • Using one chip microcontroller 87Cl96 (On chip EPROM type) and EPLD (Erasable & Programable Logic Device), an implantable control system to drive pendulum type electromechanical total artificial heart was developed. This control system consists of 4 parts, main management system, motor driver with power regulator, state monitoring system and communication part. The main system has the functions for speed detection, PI(proportional and integration) control, PWM generation, communication and analog data processor. Two kinds of power system were used and separated by 8 photo coupler arrays to improve the system stability. The performances of each compartments were compared with our previous z80 microprocessor based control system and good correspondences was shown. Logic power consumption was reduced to a one third of our previous controller. Using mock circulation tests, the overall performances of control system are evaluated.

  • A microcontroller-based DC motor control system for a total artificial heart(TAH) was developed. Using a one-chip microcontroller, 87Cl96KB, the design of digital motor speed control system and servo control system is demonstrated. Functionally, the control system consists of a position control unit, a speed control unit, and a communication unit. The performance and the reliability of the developed control system were assessed through a series of mock circulation system experiments.

  • This paper presents the hydrodynamic design and performance analysis method for a miniaturized centrifugal blood pump using three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. In order to obtain the hydraulically high efficient configuration of a miniaturized centrifugal blood pump for cardiopulmonary circulation, a well-established commercial CFD code was incorporated considering detailed flow dynamic phenomena in the blood pump system. A prototype of centrifugal blood pump developed by the present design and analysis method has been tested in the mock circulatory system. Predicted results by the CFD code agree very well with in vitro hydraulic performance data for a centrifugal blood pump over the entire operating conditions. Preliminary in vivo animal testing has also been conducted to demonstrate the hemodynamic feasibility for use of centrifugal blood pump as a mechanical circulatory support. A miniaturized centrifugal blood pump developed by the hydraulic design optimization and performance prediction method presented herein shows the possibility of a good candidate for intra and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary circulation pump in the near future.

Development of the Rolling-cylinder Type Motor-driven Total Artificial Heart System

  • A new type of motor-driven total artificial heart system with a rolloing-cylinder mechanism has been developed. The prototype system consists of a brushless DC motor inside of a rolling-cylinder, two arc shaped pusher-plate s, and two ventricles of smooth, seamless polyurethane sacs. The motor-driven pump has the advantages of being portable and quiet compared to the present air-driven pump. It can also be controlled more accurately. This rolling-cylinder type electromechanical pump has several structural advantages including small size and weight, as compared to other research groups' motor-driven pumps. The results of mock circulation tests confirm sufficient pump output capacity(cardiac output . 9 L/min, at aortic pressure'120mmHg, with heart rate . 120 BPM) for animal implantation of our prototype system.

The relations of cardiac output us. beat rate and cardiac output vs. systolic-to-diastolic rate was estimated through the mock test and hemodynamic waves are recorded for the evaluation of VAD. We performed animal experiment and 4 animals survived more than 24hrs. As a result, the hemodynamic data and waves showed this system can be applicable to the animal experiment.

좌심실 전동순환 보조장치에 관한 연구 (Study on Electrically Powered Left Ventricular Circulation Assist Device)

  • 본 논문에서는 정상류형 혈액 펌프의 일종인 축류형 혈액 펌프를 이용하여 혈액 펌프 시스템을 설계하였다. 이 시스템은 혈액 펌프, 신호 획득부, 인터페이스부, 신호 처리부로 구성되어 있고, 혈압과 심박수를 이용하여 혈압과 혈류량을 적절히 제어함으로써 좌심실의 기능을 보조할 목적으로 연구되었다. 전동 펌프가 회전할 때 생체내의 순환조건에 알맞도록 혈액 펌프의 회전수, 혈액 펌프에 걸리는 부하와 압력 정보를 적용하여 실험식을 만들어 제어에 이용하였으며 설계 제작된 모의 순환장치로써 실험한 결과 모의 혈관 내에서 적절한 혈압과 혈류의 제어가 가능하였고, 혈구의 변화량 실험 결과는 임시의 목적으로 사용가능 함을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서 복잡한 비선형적 특성을 갖는 공압식 좌심실보조장치의 모델링과 제어에 인공신경망을 제안하였다. 일반적으로 좌심실보조장치는 비선형이 보상되어야 하는데 인공신경망은 학습능력에 의해 비선형 동적 시스템의 제어에 적용될 수 있다. 인공신경망 모델링을 통해 좌심실 보조장치의 동적 모델을 모델링하고 이를 기반으로 하여 인공신경망 제어기가 설계되었다. 제안된 알고리즘을 이용한 좌심실보조장치의 모델링과 제어성능 및 유효성은 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션에 의해 증명되었다.
