  • In this paper, we consider a feedforward network of overloaded multiclass processor sharing queues and we give a fluid model solution under the condition that the system is initially empty. The main theorem of the paper provides sufficient conditions for a fluid model solution to be linear with time. The results are illustrated through examples.

  • Given the growing expectations on the value and application of mobile office, we need to understand the factors which affect its successful use and implementation. We in this paper present a parsimonious model which integrates the IS success model and the TAM. The main feature of the model is that it allows one to explore the role of mobility of mobile office systems in determining the level of system usage and dependence. Although mobility is the key property of any mobile system, there is little research effort exerted to understand how mobility affects the traditional IS factors such as perceived ease of use and usefulness. In addition to the system usage, this model also uses dependence as the dependent variable. This is expected to provide richer understanding of the study context. We collected survey data from 1,614 field service workers of a major domestic electronic company. They use PDAs to retrieve information regarding the specifics of the customer service requests and to report what has been done for each service job. The results from SEM analysis show that mobility improves the perceived ease of use which then leads the field service workers to depend more on the PDA systems. Interestingly enough, however, the workers’ satisfaction does not cause more frequent use of the system.

NMOSFET에서 LDD 영역의 전자 이동도 해석 (Analysis of electron mobility in LDD region of NMOSFET)

  • LDD structure is widely accepted in fabricating short channel MOSFETs due to reduced short channel effect originated form lower drain edge electric field. However, modeling of the LDD device is troublesome because the analysis methods of LDD region known are either too complicated or inaccurate. To solve the problem, this paper presents a nonlinear resistance model for the LDD region based on teh fact that the electron mobility changes with positive gate bias because accumulation layer of electrons is formed at the surface of the LDD region. To prove the usefulness of the model, single source/drain and LDD nMOSFETs were fabricated with 0.35$\mu$m CMOS technolgoy. For the fabricated devices we have measured I$_{ds}$-V$_{gs}$ characteristics and compare them to the modeling resutls. First of all, we calculated channel and LDD region mobility from I$_{ds}$-V$_{gs}$ characteristics of 1050$\AA$ sidewall, 5$\mu$m channel length LDD NMOSFET. Then we MOSFET and found good agreement with experiments. Next, we use calculated channel and LDD region mobility to model I$_{ds}$-V$_{gs}$ characteristics of LDD mMOSFET with 1400 and 1750$\AA$ sidewall and 5$\mu$m channel length and obtained good agreement with experiment. The single source/drain device characteristic modeling results indicates that the cahnnel mobility obtained form our model in LDD device is accurate. In the meantime, we found that the LDD region mobility is governed by phonon and surface roughness scattering from electric field dependence of the mobility. The proposed model is useful in device and circuit simulation because it can model LDD device successfully even though it is mathematically simple.

  • 이동 객체의 위치를 효율적으로 추적하는 방법을 찾는 일은 위치 인식 컴퓨팅에서 가장 중요한 문제 가운데 하나로 꼽을 수 있다 이를 위해서 저장된 위치 정보를 효율적으로 갱신하는 프로토콜이 필요하다. 이러한 위치 갱신 전략의 성능은 가정한 이동 패턴에 따라 크게 좌우되는데, 지금까지의 연구는 이동성 문제를 무시하였거나, 시간에 대한 지나치게 단순한 선형함수로만 다루고 있다. 이 논문은 이동 패턴이 복잡한 객체들의 위치 정보를 표현하고 갱신하기 위한 상태 기반 이동 모델을 제안한다. 그리고, 이 모델을 바탕으로 이동성을 인식하는 상태기반 위치 갱신 프로토콜을 제안한다. 성능을 비교하여, 이 방법이 위치 갱신 비용과 대역폭 소모를 두드러지게 줄일 수 있음을 보여준다.

User Mobility Model Based Computation Offloading Decision for Mobile Cloud

  • The last decade has seen a rapid growth in the use of mobile devices all over the world. With an increasing use of mobile devices, mobile applications are becoming more diverse and complex, demanding more computational resources. However, mobile devices are typically resource-limited (i.e., a slower-speed CPU, a smaller memory) due to a variety of reasons. Mobile users will be capable of running applications with heavy computation if they can offload some of their computations to other places, such as a desktop or server machines. However, mobile users are typically subject to dynamically changing network environments, particularly, due to user mobility. This makes it hard to choose good offloading decisions in mobile environments. In general, users' mobility can provide some hints for upcoming changes to network environments. Motivated by this, we propose a mobility model of each individual user taking advantage of the regularity of his/her mobility pattern, and develop an offloading decision-making technique based on the mobility model. We evaluate our technique through trace-based simulation with real log data traces from 14 Android users. Our evaluation results show that the proposed technique can help boost the performance of mobile devices in terms of response time and energy consumption, when users are highly mobile.

Analytical Approach of New Random-walk Based Mobility Management Scheme in IP-based Mobile Networks

  • In next-generation wireless networks, provisioning of IP-based network architecture and seamless transmission services are very important issues for mobile nodes. For this reason, a mobility management mechanism to support global roaming is highly regarded. These technologies bring a broader life by using a global roaming account through the connection of multiple devices or technology to mobile users; they also provide real-time multimedia services. This paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of fast handover for hierarchical mobile IPv6 (F-HMIPv6), hierarchical mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), and fast Proxy Mobile IPv6 (FPMIPv6) using the fluid-flow model and random-walk model. As a result, the location update cost of the PMIPv6 and FPMIPv6 is better than that of HMIPv6 and F-HMIPv6. These results suggest that the network-based mobility management technology is superior to the hierarchical mobility management technology in the mobility environment.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication networks. Even though many a mobility management schemes have been proposed, most of mobile communication networks adopt the mobility scheme based on zone-based registration. This paper studies the mobility management scheme that combines zone-based registration and 2-step selective paging. We assume cell by cell registration area, not ring by ring registration area of previous studies, and set up a new mobility model based on 2-dimensional random walk model considering the characteristic of zone-based registration to evaluate its performance exactly. We provide numerical results using proposed model to demonstrate the performance of zone-based registration and 2-step selective paging under various circumstances.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. This paper studios a zone-based registration (ZBR) that is implemented in most of mobile communication systems. We introduce the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP) and analyze its performance. We set up an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area which will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances.

  • 거리 기반의 이동성 관리 방식은 무선 네트워크 연구 분야에서 주요한 주제로 고려되었다. 적당한 이동성 모델로 수학적으로 분석하기 위한 많은 연구가 진행되었다. 특히 양방향의 랜덤 워크 모델은 단순성의 장점으로 인하여 많이 활용되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 정확한 수식에 의한 분석은 지금까지 아직 이루어지지 못하였다. 본 고에서 우리는 양방향 랜덤 워크모델에 관한 정확한 수식을 제공한다. 이러한 수학적 모델은 거리 기반의 이동성 관리 방식에 관한 연구에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

접수 전선 모델을 이용한 장비 받침대 모빌리티 평가 (Mobility Assessment of Equipment Foundation using Fluid-loaded Whole Ship Model)

  • The fluid loading effect has been investigated for the shipboard equipment foundation mobility with finite element model. For the purpose, two kinds of finite element models for 60m class ship have been developed: global and local model. The former is for low frequency range and the latter for middle frequency range. These finite element models contain added mass explaining fluid loading effect. Added mass has been implemented with virtual mass matrix derived from Laplace equation governing fluid surrounding ship hull. The mobility assessment result for diesel generator foundation of the objective model shows that the fluid loading effect should be considered, especially in low frequency range, to more accurately assess shipboard equipment foundation mobility.
