  • Accurate relative location estimation is a key requirement in indoor localization systems based on wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, although these systems have applied not only various optimization algorithms but also fusion with sensors to achieve high accuracy in position determination, they are difficult to provide accurate relative azimuth and locations to users because of cumulative errors in inertial sensors with time and the influence of external magnetic fields. This paper based on ultra-wideband positioning system, which is relatively suitable for indoor localization compared to other wireless communications, presents an indoor localization system for estimating relative azimuth and location of location-unaware nodes, referred to as target nodes without applying any algorithms with complex variable and constraints to achieve high accuracy. In the proposed method, the target nodes comprising three mobile nodes estimate the relative distance and azimuth from two reference nodes that can be installed by users. In addition, in the process of estimating the relative localization information acquired from the reference nodes, positioning errors are minimized through a novel modified rounding estimation technique in which Kalman filter is applied without any time consumption algorithms. Experimental results show the feasibility and validity of the proposed system.

  • Tremendous amount of dummy packets are generally generated for faking over a wireless sensor network so as to keep the location privacy of nodes on the communication paths against the global eavesdropping. In this paper, a scoped-flooding protocol is designed for transferring data between each source and mobile sink(aka, basestation) where, the only nodes within the scope are allowed to issue dummy packets at every idle time so that the location privacy of the nodes on the paths is kept and the amount of dummy packets is reduced to the extend of the flooding scope. The size of the flooding diameter can be taken into consideration of the privacy level and the communication cost. We design a detailed specification of the protocol and verify several properties.

  • Backpressure based scheduling has been considered as a promising technique for improving the throughput of a wide range of communication networks. However, this scheduling technique has not been well studied for heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a virtual-queue based backpressure scheduling (VQB) algorithm for heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks. The VQB algorithm introduces a simple virtual queue for each flow at a node for backpressure scheduling, whose length depends on the cache size of the node. When calculating flow weights and making scheduling decisions, the length of a virtual queue is used instead of the length of a real queue. We theoretically prove that VQB is throughput-optimal. Simulation results show that the VQB algorithm significantly outperforms a classical backpressure scheduling algorithm in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks in terms of the packet delivery ratio, packet delivery time, and average sum of the queue lengths of all nodes per timeslot.

  • Integrated RFID-WSNs (wireless sensor networks) have recently been researched to provide object identities, sensing information, mobile service, and network functionalities. In integrated RFID-WSNs, the reader collision is one of the critical problems. Above all, due to the absence of universally applicable anti-collision protocols and the channel capture phenomenon, the medium access control protocols in integrated RFID-WSNs suffer from reader collision and starvation problems. In this paper, we propose an efficient MAC protocol, called EMP, to avoid the above problems in integrated RFID-WSNs. EMP is a CSMA-based MAC protocol which is compatible with sensor networks operating on integrated nodes which consist of an RFID reader and a senor node. EMP resolves not only the reader collision problem, but also the starvation problem using a power control mechanism. To verify the performance of EMP, we compared it with other anti-reader collision MAC protocols using simulations. As a result, the performance of EMP showed improvements in throughput, system efficiency, and energy consumption compared to the single data channel protocols (CSMA/CA, Pulse, and DiCa) in dense deployment environments.

  • Recently, LBS(Location Based Service) which provides useful service based on the location of objects or human has drawn the attention of the research community. To provide LBS, many researchers have proposed many localization systems such as Cricket or Ubisense, however, these systems have the limit that it is very hard to perform the complicated computation on these systems because these systems consist of sensor nodes which have very limited computing power. In the paper, we propose a new localization system with the gateway node which has very high computing power and resource which is suitable for the complicated computation needed for localization.

  • The Sensor technology and portable device capability able to collect recent user information and the information about the surrounding environment haven been highly developed. A user can be made use of various contents and the option is also extending with this technology development. In particular, the initial portable device had simply a call function, but now that has evolved into 'the 4th screen' which including movie, television, PC ability. also, in the past, a portable device to provided only the services of a SMS, in recent years, it provided to interactive video service, and it include technology which providing various contents. Also, it is rising as media which leading the consumption of contents, because it can be used anytime, anywhere. However, the contents available for the nature of user's handheld devices are limited. because it is very difficult for making the contents separately according to various device specification. To find a solution to this problem, the study on one contents from several device has been progressing. The contents conversion technology making use of the profile of device out of this study comes to the force and profile study has been progressing for this. Furthermore, Demand for a user is also increased and the study on the technology collecting, analyzing demands has been making active progress. And what is more, Grasping user's demands by making use of this technology and the study on the technology analyzing, providing contents has been making active progress as well. First of all, there is a method making good use of ZigBee, Bluetooth technology about the sensor for gathering user's information. ZigBee uses low-power digital radio for wireless headphone, wireless communication network, and being utilized for smart energy, automatic home system, wireless communication application and wireless sensor application. Bluetooth, as industry standards of PAN(Personal Area Networks), is being made of use of low power wireless device for the technology supporting data transmission such as drawing file, video file among Bluetooth device. With analyzing the collected information making use of this technology, it utilizes personalized service based on network knowledge developed by ETRI to service contents tailor-made for a user. Now that personalized service builds up network knowledge about user's various environments, the technology provides context friendly service constructed dynamically on the basis of this. The contents to service dynamically like this offer the contents that it converses with utilizing device profile to working well. Therefore, this paper suggests the system as follow. It collects the information, for example of user's sensitivity, context and location by using sensor technology, and generates the profile as a means of collected information as sensor. It collects the user's propensity to the information by user's input and event and generates profile in the same way besides the gathered information by sensor. Device transmits a generated profile and the profile about a device specification to proxy server. And proxy server transmits a profile to each profile management server. It analyzes profile in proxy server so that it selects the contents user demand and requests in contents server. Contents server receives a profile of user portable device from device profile server and converses the contents by using this. Original source code of contents convert into XML code using the device profile and XML code convert into source code available in user portable device. Thus, contents conversion process is terminated and user friendly system is completed as the user transmits optimal contents for user portable device.

  • Autonomous mobile robot has ability to move itself so it can access to danger area or narrow place, and send acquired data by sensors at the same time. In order to drive to directed place, it should progress to the destination without any collision to other robot. In this study, we built and realized the collision avoidance system for autonomous mobile robot. By using antenna, IR and ultrasonic Sensors for collision avoidance, we made it possible to sense the attached and long-distance obstacle, and can avoid. Also, we used wired and wireless network to send the data after the mission.

  • A multipath routing in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provides advantage such as reliability improvement and load balancing by transmitting data through divided paths. For these reasons, existing multipath routing protocols divide path appropriately or create independent paths efficiently. However, when the sink node moves to avoid hotspot problem or satisfy the requirement of the applications, the existing protocols have to reconstruct multipath or exploit foot-print chaining mechanism. As a result, the existing protocols will shorten the lifetime of a network due to excessive energy consumption, and lose the advantage of multipath routing due to the merging of paths. To solve this problem, we propose a multipath creation and maintenance scheme to support the mobile sink node. The proposed protocol can be used to construct local grid structure with restricted area and exploit grid structure for constructing the multipath. The grid structure can also be extended depending on the movement of the sink node. In addition, the multipath can be partially reconstructed to prevent merging paths. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is superior to the existing protocols in terms of energy efficiency and packet delivery ratio.

  • Currently in a Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) research field, supporting mobility is recognized as an important technology. MIPv6 and Network Mobility(NEMO) Basic Support Protocol are standard protocols to support mobility in the Internet. However, if they are applied to USN with no modification, handoff performance decreases due to the size of their binding message. An existing lightweight protocol for NEMO protocol has a compatibility problem of Sequence Num. and does not optimally compress binding messages considering 6LoWPAN network structure and addressing. This paper proposes optimal header compression which supports node-based mobility and network-based mobility. Our optimal compression technique compresses a 32bytes binding update(BU) message and a 12bytes binding ACK(BA) message of MIPv6 into 13bytes and 3bytes, and a 40bytes BU message and a 12bytes BA message of NEMO protocol into 13bytes and 3bytes. The result shows that our protocol compresses 15bytes (NEMO-BU) and 1byte (NEMO-BA) more than the existing protocol and achieves 8.72% handoff performance improvement.
