  • This paper suggests wireless diagnosis and monitoring system using SMS mode of mobile communication network for distribution transformer which could prevent electrical accident in the near future. Data are acquired by measuring the temperature of insulator oil in the distribution transformer and load current. Data acquisition of sensor using mobile communication network carried out filtering of sensor's output to optimize the size of send data Merit of this inspection method is that management, control and monitoring some transformers can be carried out using only one server. This inspection method will be the way of inspection to be worth spotlight in the near future because it is able to solve easily with the minimum facility inspection about state of transformer which is operating, to wide coverage about machine's wrong operation in other field.

  • In this paper, we outline the research issues that we are pursuing towards building of location aware environments for mainly ubiquitous healthcare applications. Such location aware application can provide what is happening in this space. To locate an object, such as patient or elderly person, the active ceiling-mounted reference beacons were placed throughout the building. Reference beacons periodically publish location information on RF and ultrasonic signals to allow application running on mobile or static nodes to study and determine their physical location. Once object-carried passive listener receives the information, it subsequently determines it's location from reference beacons. The cost of the system was reduced while the accuracy in our experiments was fairly good and fine grained between 7 and 12 cm for location awareness in indoor environments by using only the sensor nodes and wireless sensor network technology. Passive architecture used here provides the security of the user privacy while at the server the privacy was secured by providing the authentication using Geopriv approach. This information from sensor nodes is further forwarded to base station where further computation is performed to determine the current position of object.

  • The maintenance of sensor networks, installed in a wide area has been an issue for a long time. In order to solve this problem, studies to supply energy to a sensor network using a robot has been carried out by several researchers. In this study, for a sensor network consisting of power nodes supplied with energy by multiple robots and sensor nodes around them, we propose a method of allocating a work area using a modified k-means algorithm so that the robots move the minimum distance. Through the simulation study using the energy transfer rate of the robot as a variable, it is shown that nodes of each allocated area can maintain survival, and the validity of the proposed modified k-means algorithm is verified.

  • The realization of a monitoring system for senior citizens living alone through wireless sensor network. Due to the recent advances in medical science, people live longer than ever before which accelerates the number of senior citizens. The high rate of the old people in population causes some changes in the form of families, which results in the increasing number of old people living by themselves. This also causes a lot of social problems concerning aging population. For example, people found a dead body of 83-year-old, who had lived alone, after he passed away a month before. There is a national monitoring service for the old people of their daily lives, but the application of such system is very limited. Considering this, the current paper focuses on the realization of a monitoring system for senior citizens living alone through wireless sensor network. The system consists of ZigBee sensor network, which is based on standard IEEE 802.15.4. and the system uses Tmote Sky sensor mote made by Moteive, which is installed with TinyOS. The circumstances information data will be saved on DB and a household will be monitored through a Webpage or Mobile.

  • Due to the rapid advance in web and mobile computing technologies, normal users have become to produce, provide, and share a varied form of spatial data and information. In the domain of spatial information, numerous researches on GIS have been conducted to provide spatial information services based on a geo-sensor network and a data integration and processing technology. However, to provide user-oriented information, a context information model is necessary to associate GIS data with web and sensor data. Context awareness services is designed to provide specific information, minimizing users' interference. For which, the context information model expresses the relationship of various data from sensor networks and mobile applications and provides a user-specific information considering location and area of interest. Thus, this research aims to develops a context information model based air-pollution information system that obtains and analyses air pollution data and reflects the analysis results on an air-pollution policy. Also, this system aims to raise citizens' awareness on air-pollution and to promote citizens' participatory to improve city's air quality.

  • The mobile RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a new application to use mobile phone as RFID reader with a wireless technology and provides new valuable services to user by integrating RFID and ubiquitous sensor network infrastructure with mobile communication and wireless internet. However, there are an increasing number of concerns, and even some resistances, related to consumer tracking and profiling using RFID technology. Therefore, in this paper, we describe the security analysis and implementation leveraging globally networked mobile RFID services which complies with the Korea's mobile RFID forum standard.

  • In this paper, we propose an obstacle avoidance algorithm for a network-based autonomous mobile robot. The obstacle avoidance algorithm is based on the VFH (Vector Field Histogram) algorithm and delay-compensative methods with the VFH algorithm are proposed for the network-based robot that is a unified system composed of distributed environmental sensors, mobile actuators, and the VFH controller. Firstly, the compensated readings of the sensors are used for building the polar histogram of the VFH algorithm. Secondly, a sensory fusion using the Kalman filter is proposed for the localization of the robot to compensate both the delay of the readings of an odometry sensor and the delay of the readings of the environmental sensors. The performance enhancements of the proposed obstacle avoidance algorithm from the viewpoint of efficient path generation and accurate goal positioning are also shown in this paper through some simulation experiments by the Marilou Robotics Studio Simulator.

  • This paper suggests a data gathering scheme using dynamic branch tree in wireless sensor networks. A mobile sink gathers data from each sensor node using a dynamic data gathering tree rooted at the mobile sink node. As the sink moves, a tree that has multiple branch is formed and changed dynamically as with the position of the sink node. A hop-based scope filter and a restricted flooding scheme of the tree are also suggested. Simulation results show that the proposed data gathering scheme has better results in data arrival rate, the end-to-end delay and energy saving characteristics compared with the previous scheme.
