A Framework and Policy Scenarios of Policy-based Mobile IP Networks (정책기반 이동 IP 네트워크의 프레임워크와 정책 시나리오)

  • Because of increasing the notebook computer and PDA, users' requirement with respect to mobility is growing more and more. However, current IP protocol is not changed IP address and can not deliver IP packets on new location of host in case moving another network. To solve this problem, the IETF has proposed mobile IP. The network management for maintaining stable and efficient environment is more difficult according to being various by complicated network environment and requirements of provided service and user. The recent rises concern about policy-based network technology. Therefore, this paper proposed a framework of policy-based network and developed policy scenarios using the presented policy language of mobile IP.

  • 본 논문에서는 무선 이동 통신 환경에서 동영상 전송시 발생하는 패킷 손실 및 지연을 줄이고 최대한 모바일 호스트에서 손상 없이 플레이 할 수 있도록 gateway를 이용하여 media 서버에서 mobile host까지의 적절한 전송 스케줄을 구한다. 모바일 호스트의 구조상 작은 버퍼량을 가지고 있으며, 그리고 무선 통신 환경은 유선에 비하여 작은 대역폭을 가지고 있다. 미디어 스트림을 전송하는데 있어서 dropping 없이 패킷이 전송될 수 있도록 gateway상에서 버퍼링을 실시한다. 이 논문에서는 gateway와 mobile host간의 transmission rate를 조절하여 gateway상의 버퍼량을 최소화시키는 전송 스케줄 방법을 제안한다.

  • 무선 환경에서 모바일 호스트는 네트웍 사이를 이동할 때에 핸드오프를 수행해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이동 컴퓨팅 환경의 IP 멀티캐스트 전송 기법에서 핸드오프 중에 발생하는 패킷 손실을 줄이기 위한 버퍼링 기법을 제안하였다. 기존에 제시된 방법들은 모바일 노드의 핸드오프 동안 전송되어지는 패킷들을 이동 전에 서비스 해주는 FA가 버퍼링 하여핸드 오프 후에 전달해주거나, 핸드 오프 동안 이동 전ㆍ후의 FA 모두에게 멀티캐스트 하도록 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 방법과는 달리 모바일 호스트가 네트웍들의 오버랩영역으로 이동하게 되면 버퍼링 수행 여부를 결정하고, 판단 결과에 따라 직접 버퍼링을 수행함으로써 핸드 오프 시 발생 할 수 있는 패킷 손실을 줄이도록 하고 있다. 이는 버퍼링 된 패킷의 포워딩 시간을 최소로 할 뿐 아니라 불필요한 버퍼링을 방지 할 수 있다.

A Mobility Management Scheme by Considering User Mobility in Internet (인터넷에서 사용자 이동성을 고려한 이동성 제어 방식)

  • To cope with the Internet host mobility in a cellular network environment, we propose an adaptive mobility management scheme that can compensate drawbacks of Mobile IP. We also propose protocol that supports the proposed scheme. Our proposed scheme determines foreign agent care-of addresses adaptively according to user mobility. Consequently, it is different from other proposals for micro mobility, which statically assign the gateway in the domain as a foreign agent. Using such a scheme, it is possible to effectively meet the users demands for different service qualities in the various environments considered in the cellular network and to reduce signaling overhead due to frequent handovers occurred in Mobile IP. The performance of the proposed scheme is examined by simulation. The results of simulation show that the proposed scheme can provide relatively stable points of attachment to the mobile node.

  • The Mobile IPv6(MIPv6) has a well-known time gap of packet loss between link down and binding update. To minimize such packet loss, this paper proposes a MIPv6-based dual tunneling mechanism, which keeps exploiting the old tunnel while creating a new tunnel. Superiority of the proposed mechanism is evaluated by quantitative analysis on the lost packets and computer simulation, based on two overlay heterogeneous access networks, such as the UMTS and a WLAN.

  • The QoS(Quality of Service) guarantee mechanism is one of critical issues in the wireless network. Real-time applications like VoIP(Voice over IP) in All-IP networks need smooth handoffs in order to minimize or eliminate packet loss as a Mobile Host(MH) transitions between network links. In this paper, we design a new multicasting algorithm using DB(Dynamic Buffering) mechanism for Mobile-IPv6. A key feature of the new protocol is the concepts of the DB and MRA(Multicast Routing Agent) to reduce delivery path length of the multicast datagram. Particularly, the number of tunneling and average routing length of datagram are reduced relatively, the multicast traffic load is also decreased.

A Prefetch Algorithm for a Mobile Host using Association Rules (연관 규칙을 이용한 이동 호스트의 선반입 알고리즘)

  • Recently, location-based services are becoming very Popular in mobile environments. In this paper, we propose a new association based prefetch algorithm (called by STAP) that efficiently supports information service based on the large quantity of spatial database in mobile environments. We apply the spatial-temporal relations that are meaningful for location-based queries in mobile environments. Moreover, STAP considers user's mobility and the weight of spatial data. The relation of services is a new aspect not considered in previous cache politics. So STAP is the first prefetch algorithm considering the spatial-temporal relations and thus the cache policy begins to gain a new dimension. We evaluate the performance of STAP and prove the efficiency of STAP.

  • Recent network environment has been rapidly evolved to cloud computing environment based on the development of the Internet technologies. Furthermore there is an increasing demand on mobile cloud computing due to explosive growth of smart devices and wide deployment of LTE-based cellular networks. Thus mobile Desktop-as-a-Service(DaaS) could be a pervasive service for nomadic users. In addition, video streaming traffic is currently more than two-thirds of mobile traffic and ever increasing. All such trends enable that video streaming in mobile DaaS could be an important concern for mobile cloud computing. It should be noted that the performance of the Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) on cloud host servers greatly affects Quality of Service(QoS) of video streams for mobile users. With widely deployed Linux server platforms for cloud computing, in this paper, we conduct an experimental analysis of the twelve Linux TCP variants in mobile DaaS environments. The results of our experiments show that the TCP Illinois outperforms the other TCP variants in terms of wide range of packet loss rate and propagation delay over LTE-based wireless links between cloud servers and mobile devices, even though TCP CUBIC is usually used in default in the current Linux systems.

A Novel Method of Fast Attachment for Non-DNAv6 Hosts in the DNAv6 Network (DNAv6 망에서 Non-DNAv6 호스트의 빠른 Attachment 방안)

  • The DNAv6 was designed to support fast attachment for a host, which is corresponding to the movement detection part in the mobility management. Since, however, the DNAv6 has supported only DNAv6-capable ARs and DNAv6-capable hosts, an non-DNAv6 host could not support fast handoff function in a DNAv6 network. In this paper, we consider a new method of the fast attachment of non-DNAv6 hosts. To support the non-DNAv6 host in DNAv6 networks, we suggest a novel algorithm, RCA algorithm, where an AR can decide whether a host has the DNAv6 function and whether it has moved to a new link or not, and then the AR can inform the host of new link information. For the RCA algorithm, we proposed to modify the RS message and the Reconf_Link message with addition of some fields. To validate our RCA algorithm and its performance, we have accomplished simulation tests for the ND process, the DNAv6 process and the modified DNAv6 process with our RCA algorithm. In the viewpoints of the attachment delay and complexity, the proposed algorithm gives the better delay performance than the ND process while it presents the less complexity than the DNAv6 process.

An Optimal AP Discovery Method in 802.11 Network (802.11망에서 최적의 AP 검색 기법)

  • With the development of mobile communications and Internet technology, there is a strong need to provide seamless and fast connectivity for roaming devices. Generally, the mobile host (MH) may have several available networks when entering a new wireless area. However, the standard of decision for user's internet connection is provided only the subsystem identification (SSID) and signal strength of access point (AP). These two standards could not enough to decide optimal AP to the MH. Therefore, to decide the optimal AP, more information is needed. In this paper, we present additional information such as status of MH, capacity, current load, and depth of network hierarchy, by router advertisement message at layer 3. Also, we proposed decision engine (DE) on the MH that analyzes APs and decides the optimal AP automatically by AP's status information. For the MH, wireless connection period is increased, the power consumption is decreased, and the signaling overhead is reduced. For AP and router, the load balancing is provided and the network topology can also be more efficient.
