A Study on New Map Construction and Path Planning Method for Mobile Robot Navigation (이동 로봇의 주행을 위한 새로운 지도 구성 방법 및 경로 계획에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper we proposed a new map construction and path planning method for mobile robot. In our proposed method first we introduced triangular representation map that mobile robot can navigate through shorter path and flexible motion instead of grid representation map for mobile robot navigation. method in which robot can navigate complete space through as short path as possible in unknown environment is proposed. Finally we proposed new path planning method in a quadtree representation map. To evaluate the performance of our proposed new path planning method in a quadtree representation map. To evaluate the performance of our proposed triangular representation map it was compared with the existing distance transform path planning method. And we considered complete coverage navigation and new path planning method through several examples.

Handoff Control Algorithm for Mobile Hosts in the Internet Multicast Environments (인터넷 멀티캐스트 환경에서의 이동 단말을 위한 핸드오프 제어 방안)

  • This paper proposes a new solution to support Internet Multicast for mobile hosts. The proposed algorithm is based on the remote subscription approach of IETF Mobile IP that mobile node re-subscribes to its desired multicast groups while at a foreign network. In addition, we adopt the bi-directional tunneling to minimize the disruption of multicast service due to movement of a host from network to another. This paper also analyzes the handoff latencies and data packet loss amount of our algorithm and compares to other approaches. Our analysis shows that the proposed algorithm has good robustness, scalability and routing efficiency.

  • This paper proposes a generation method of a navigation guidance direction and a fuzzy controller to achieve the autonomous navigation of a mobile robot using a particle swarm optimization(PSO) scheme in unknown environments. The proposed navigation guidance direction is the direction that leads a mobile robot to arrive a target point simultaneously with avoiding obstacles efficiently according to the surrounding local informations. It is generated by selecting the most suitable direction of the many directions in the surrounding environment using a particle swarm optimization scheme. Also, a robot can reach a target point with avoiding the various obstacles by controlling the robot so that it can move from its current orientation to the navigation guidance direction using the proposed fuzzy controller. Simulation results are presented to show the feasibility and validity of the proposed robot navigation scheme.

  • Mobile robot has been studied for long time due to its simple structure and easy modeling. Regarding path planning of the mobile robot, we suggest real-time hybrid path planning algorithm which is the combination of optimal path planning and real-time path planning in this paper. Real-time hybrid path planning algorithm modifies, finds best route, and saves calculating time. It firstly plan the route with real-time path planning then robot starts to move according to the planned route. While robot is moving, update the route as the best outcome which found by optimal path planning algorithm. Verifying the performance of the proposed method through the comparing real-time hybrid path planning with optimal path planning will be done.

  • This paper proposes a hermite spline based D* algorithm for effective path planning of mobile robot to improve the detecting speed. In conventional path planning research, a robot is supposed to pass through predetermined centers of grid partitions of area. However it doesn't guarantee the optimal path during its navigation. In addition, a robot is hard to avoid obstacles effectively. The proposed algorithm in this paper makes use of stochastic characteristics of nonholonomic mobile robot and estimation of shortest path to curvature movement of the robot. The performance evaluation of the improved spline D* algorithm performed through simulation shows its effectiveness. Moreover, the experiment verifies that a robot can find the shortest path by building the curve paths while it is moving on the path in spline.

Optimal Provider Mobility in Large-Scale Named- Data Networking

  • Named-Data Networking (NDN) is one of the promising approaches for the Future Internet to cope with the explosion and current usage pattern of Internet traffic. Content provider mobility in the NDN allows users to receive real-time traffic when the content providers are on the move. However, the current solutions for managing these mobile content providers suffer several issues such as long handover latency, high cost, and non-optimal routing path. In this paper, we survey main approaches for provider mobility in NDN and propose an optimal scheme to support the mobile content providers in the large-scale NDN domain. Our scheme predicts the movement of the provider and uses state information in the NDN forwarding plane to set up an optimal new routing path for mobile providers. By numerical analysis, our approach provides NDN users with better service access delay and lower total handover cost compared with the current solutions.

Converged Mobile Cellular Networks and Wireless Sensor Networks for Machine-to-Machine Communications

  • In recent years, machine-to-machine (M2M) communications are under rapid development to meet the fast-increasing requirements of multi-type wireless services and applications. In order to satisfy M2M communications requirements, heterogeneous networks convergence appears in many areas, i.e., mobile cellular networks (MCNs) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are evolving from heterogeneous to converged. In this paper, we introduce the system architecture and application requirement for converged MCN and WSN, where mobile terminals in MCN are acting as both sensor nodes and gateways for WSN. And then, we discuss the joint optimization of converged networks for M2M communications. Finally, we discuss the technical challenges in the converged process of MCN and WSN.

A Privacy-preserving Image Retrieval Scheme in Edge Computing Environment

  • Traditional cloud computing faces some challenges such as huge energy consumption, network delay and single point of failure. Edge computing is a typical distributed processing platform which includes multiple edge servers closer to the users, thus is more robust and can provide real-time computing services. Although outsourcing data to edge servers can bring great convenience, it also brings serious security threats. In order to provide image retrieval while ensuring users' data privacy, a privacy preserving image retrieval scheme in edge environment is proposed. Considering the distributed characteristics of edge computing environment and the requirement for lightweight computing, we present a privacy-preserving image retrieval scheme in edge computing environment, which two or more "honest but curious" servers retrieve the image quickly and accurately without divulging the image content. Compared with other traditional schemes, the scheme consumes less computing resources and has higher computing efficiency, which is more suitable for resource-constrained edge computing environment. Experimental results show the algorithm has high security, retrieval accuracy and efficiency.

  • A rapid growth of mobile devices and a proliferation of wireless networks lead to changing the existing environment into a mobile environment. Expansion of mobile environment makes a pressing need of mobile databases, and there are several solutions to achieve it. But they still accompany with some problems. Especially, the current synchronization server that manages consistently many mobile database management systems is based on the centralized method to synchronize data between the mobile database systems. It is the major factor that causes the lower performance of the whole system. Furthermore, the fault tolerance has not been considered in the existing systems. Therefore, we suggest the mobile agent-based mobile database system in order to resolve the problems. The system, we propose in this paper, provides the high-performance of the whole system by mobile grouping, and also may support a fault-tolerance management method.

  • With the advances of wireless technologies and mobile computing, m-commerce is being realized for several mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. Currently, service contents in m-commerce are usually newly written to meet specific characteristics of the target mobile devices, thus requiring formidable efforts. Therefore, we should exploit the Internet product information currently being provided for e-commerce. However, bringing the Internet product to mobile devices is far from straightforward due to the many limitations of mobile devices such as little memory, small displays, low processing speeds, and so forth. In this paper, we first suggest a new model to effectively adapt the Internet product information for mobile phones. We then suggest a mobile system to implement the model. We then design and implement the system. Finally, we give experiments on the system.
