  • Although the reuse of the cached data for scrolling the map reduces the amount of passed data between client and server, it needs the conversions of data coordinates, selertive deletion of objects and cache compaction at client. The conversion is time intensive operation due to limited resources of mobile phones such as low computing power, small memory. Therefore, for the efficient map control in the vector map service based mobile phone, it is necessary to study the method for reducing wireless network bandwidth and for overwhelming the limited resources of mobile phone as well. This paper proposes the methods for racking pre-received spatial objects in client-server systems for mobile CIS. We also analyze the strengths and drawbacks between the reuse of cached data and transmission of raw data respectively.

  • In an IP-based network, automated dynamic assignment of IP addresses is preferable. In most wired networks, a node relies on a centralized server by using dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) to obtain a dynamic IP address. However, the DHCPbased approach cannot be employed in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) due to the uncertainty of any centralized DHCP server. That is, a MANET may become partitioned due to host mobility. Therefore, there is no guarantee to access a DHCP server. A general approach to address this issue is to allow a mobile host to pick a tentative address randomly, and then use duplicate address resolution (DAR) protocol to resolve any duplicate addresses. In this paper, an innovative distributed dynamic host configuration protocol designed to configure nodes in MANET is presented. The proposed protocol not only can detect the duplicate address, but also can resolve the problem caused by duplicate address. It shows that the proposed protocol works correctly and is more universal than earlier approaches. An enhanced version of DAR scheme is also proposed in this paper to solve the situation of duplicate MAC address. The new and innovative approach proposed in this paper can make the nodes in MANET provide services to other networks and avoid packets from being delivered to incorrect destinations.

  • In ubiquitous GIS services is possible to use the spatio-temporal data using a mobile device at anytime. Also, client is transmitted latest spatio-temporal data from server. But traditional systems have a problem that the time of transmitting latest information from server to client takes long time because of collecting data periodically. In this paper, we proposed Two-way Synchronization system supporting field update to solve the existing problem. This system uses mobile device for collecting changed data in the real world and sending collected data to server.

  • With the steady growth of mobile technology and applications, demand for more storage in mobile devices has also increased. A lightweight block-level protocol, Internet Advanced Technology Attachment (iATA), has been developed to deliver a cost-effective storage network solution for mobile devices to obtain more storage. This paper seeks to contribute to designing and implementing Load Balancing (LB), Network Monitoring (NM) and Write Replication (WR) modules to improve the protocol's scalability and data availability. LB and NM modules are invoked to collect system resources states and current network status at each associate node (server machine). A dynamic weight factor is calculated based on the collected information and sent to a referral server. The referral server is responsible to analyze and allocate the most ideal node with the least weight to serve the client. With this approach, the client can avoid connecting to a heavily loaded node that may cause delays in subsequent in-band I/O operations. Write replication is applied to the remaining nodes through a WR module by utilizing the Unison file synchronization program. A client initially connected to node IP A for write operations will have no hindrances in executing the relevant read operations at node IP B in new connections. In the worst case scenario of a node crashing, data remain recoverable from other functioning nodes. We have conducted several benchmark tests and our results are evaluated and verified in a later section.

  • In this paper, we explain a volume rendering system for client-server environment. A single GPU-equipped PC works as a server which is based on the ideas that only a few concurrent users use a volume rendering system in a small hospital. As the clients, we used Android mobile devices such as smart phones. User events are transformed to rendering requests by the client application. When the server receives a rendering request, it renders the volume using the GPU. The rendered image is compressed to JPEG or PNG format so that we can save network bandwidth and reduce transfer time. In addition, we perform an event pruning method while a user is dragging the touch to enhance latency. The server compensates the pruning by interpolating the touch positions. As the result, real-time volume rendering is possible for 5 concurrent users on single GPU-equipped commodity hardware.

  • AAA(Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) is the service that offers authentication, authorization, and accounting method, and every terminal that accesses the network requires this AAA service. The authentication process of a mobile terminal is as follows: a mobile phone accesses an authentication server in a home network via the authentication service in an external network, which receives the authentication result. And, for the home authentication server to offer secure service, a unique key is distributed for the secure communication between the external agent and the user, the external agent and the home authentication server, and the user and the home authentication server. This paper discusses and proposes the key distribution for secure communication among external authentication servers when a mobile terminal travels to an external network. As the proposed method does not require the home authentication server to reissue another authentication when a user travels to other external networks, it reduces the overload in the home authentication server. It can also distribute a PIN-driven key.

  • Recently, a lot of researches about mobile vision using Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) has been attempted. Many CPUs for PDA are integer CPUs, which have no floating-computation component. It results in slow computation of the algorithms peformed by vision system or image processing, which have much floating-computation. In this paper, in order to resolve this weakness, we propose the Client(PDA)/server(PC) architecture which is connected to each other with a wireless LAN, and we construct the system with pipelining processing using two CPUs of the Client(PDA) and the Server(PC) in image sequence. The Client(PDA) extracts tentative text regions using Edge Density(ED). The Server(PC) uses both the Multi-1.aver Perceptron(MLP)-based texture classifier and Connected Component(CC)-based filtering for a definite text extraction based on the Client(PDA)'s tentativel99-y extracted results. The proposed method leads to not only efficient text extraction by using both the MLP and the CC, but also fast running time using Client(PDA)/server(PC) architecture with the pipelining processing.

  • Web services are key applications in businessto-business, business-to-customer, and enterprise applications integration solutions. As the mobile internet becomes one of the main methods for information delivery, mobile Web Services are regarded as a critical aspect of e-business architecture. In this paper, we proposed a mobile Web Services middleware that converts conventional internet services into mobile Web services. We implemented a WSDL (Web Service Description Language) builder that converts HTML/XML into WSDL and a SAOP (Simple Object Access Protocol) message processor that performs SOAP message handling, chain and handling of server requests. The former minimizes the overhead cost of rebuilding mobile Web Services and enables seamless services between wired and wireless internet services. The latter enhances SOAP processing performance by eliminating the Servlet container (Tomcat), a required component of typical Web services implementation. Our main contributions are to overcome the latency problem of current Web Services and to provide an easy mobile Web service implementation. Our system can completely support standard Web Services protocol, minimizing communication overhead, message processing time, and server overload. Finally we compare our empirical results with those of typical Web Services.
