Extended reality (XR) provides an immersive virtual experience by using various media. The XR virtual environment enables interactions between the real and virtual worlds in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality scenarios. XR is being used in various areas such as industry, medical care, road transportation, gaming, education, and culture. XR and multimedia enhancement are important business scenarios for fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks. As users' demand for emerging media services gradually increases, enhancements in networks should be implemented for delivering multimedia services such as XR. We describe related standardization trends and requirements of the XR service in 5G mobile networks. We also discuss technological enhancements for 5G mobile networks as specified by the 3GPP SA2 working group.

This paper presents MAPER, a media-aware power efficient routing algorithm over mobile ad hoc networks. Generally, multimedia services need various quality of service over the network according to their characteristics and applications. But it is not easy to guarantee quality of service over mobile ad hoc networks since the resources are very limited and time-varying. Furthermore only a limited power is available at mobile nodes, which makes the problem more challenging. Now, we propose an effective routing algorithm over mobile ad hoc networks that provides the stable end-to-end quality of service with the minimum total power consumption. Finally, experimental results are provided to show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Advances in mobile and wireless networking technologies have enabled mobile ad hoc networks applicable to a wide range of areas. Many cases of even such ad hoc networks demand to be accessible to the global network. Owing to be diversified in features depending on applications, however, some those networks may consist of devices or nodes which do not facilitate all the same transport protocols. This results in unreachable situations of establishing ad hoc network: such as non-existence of all required access points, faults or contention in a path of particular protocol communication. Interworking between different transport protocols can alleviate such problems. This paper proposes an interworking scheme to improve data transport performance and network accessibility, especially in such a mobile ad hoc network that is applicable to data communications among ships or user's convenient u-health services. Modeling and simulation analysis are used to verify the improvement.

The concept of IPv6 stateless address autoconfiguration lends itself easily to mobile ad hoc networks. However, the Neighbor Discovery protocol (NDP)-based mechanism described in [1] does not fit well for the multi-link environments in the mobile ad hoc network. In this document, we extend the current SAA mechanism to be suitable for mobile ad hoc networks.

Location services are used in mobile ad hoc and hybrid networks to locate either the geographic position of a given node in the network or a data item. One of the main usages of position location services is presented in location based routing algorithms. In particular, geographic routing protocols can route messages more efficiently to their destinations based on the destination node's geographic position, which is provided by a location service. In this paper, we propose an adaptive location service on the basis of fuzzy logic called FHLS (Fuzzy Hierarchical Location Service) for mobile ad hoc networks. The adaptive location update scheme using the fuzzy logic on the basis of the mobility and the call preference of mobile nodes is used by the FHLS. The performance of the FHLS is to be evaluated by a simulation, and compared with that of existing HLS scheme.

The new communication paradigm is rapidly shifted from wireless mobile networks to an All-IP(Internet Protocol) network, led by service industry leaders and communication manufacturers. In this paradigm, providing authentication and session keys of a subscriber becomes one of the critical tasks because of IP open accessibility among heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we introduce authentication process procedure of heterogeneous wireless mobile networks and develop so-called IMAS(Integrated Mobile Authentication Server) which can securely inter-work among all mobile networks and support the legacy networks with backward compatibility. Especially, in designing IMAS, mobile authentication inter-working mechanism, key management technique, and other issues to be overcome are presented. We analyze and evaluate the performance of authentication algorithm which creates session key. A simulation environment of IMAS is established, and a performance(TPS; Transaction Per Second) result is analyzed and evaluated. It turned out that IMAS works among heterogeneous wireless mobile networks without compensating efficiency and functionalities of the legacy networks and decrease the entropy of data redundancy and data inconsistency among networks because of the integrity of the distributed Data Base(DB).

Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in Mobile IP-based wireless networks where packet losses not related to network congestion occur frequently during inter-subnetwork handoffs by user mobility. To solve such a problem in the networks using Mobile IP, the packet buffering method at a base station(BS) recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding the buffered packets at the old BS to the mobile users. But, when the mobile user moves to a congested BS in a new foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old BS are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a mobile user degrades severely. In this paper, we propose a Modified BLUE(MBLUE) buffer required at a BS to increase TCP throughput in Mobile IP-based networks. When a queue length exceed a threshold and congestion grows, MBLUE increases its packet drop probability. But, when a TCP connection is added at new BS by a handoff, the old BS marks the buffered packets. And new BS receives the marked packets without dropping. Simulation results show that MBLUE buffer reduces congestion during handoffs and increases TCP throughputs.

Wireless mesh networks have been widely studied as the next generation technology to solve the problems of conventional wireless networks. Particularly, Mobile WiMAX based wireless mesh networks are noticed due to many advantages. Mobile WiMAX standard provides two kinds of layer-3 handover schemes: Mobile IP and Proxy Mobile IP based handover schemes. MIP based handover scheme has a problem in that it incurs the long handover latency because mobile nodes generate a lot of handover messages. On the other hand, PMIP based handover scheme decreases the handover latency by reducing the number of handover messages, because mobile nodes do not participate in handover procedure. Therefore, layer-3 handover for Mobile WiMAX should be designed based on PMIP. However, conventional PMIP based handover still has latency overhead, because of many message exchanges between PBU and PBA after completing the layer-2 handover. Hence, in this paper, we propose a fast layer-3 handover scheme that achieves the lower handover latency for Mobile WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. Proposed scheme has advantages in terms of handover latency. Simulation results show that proposed scheme achieves low handover latency during the layer-3 handover.
Location management is difficult in ad hoc networks due to many features such as the lack of a wired infrastructure, the scarce energy, memory and processing capabilities of nodes, and nodes’ movement which leads to a dynamic topology. These characteristics make the location management schemes designed for mobile cellular networks inefficient for ad hoc networks. New solutions for location management have therefore been proposed in the literature in the recent past. In this paper, a taxonomy of location management strategies is presented; some of the more interesting approaches proposed in the literature are critically discussed, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages.
Security-related issues in mobile communications are increasing. The security requirements of mobile communications for the mobile users include authentication of the mobile user, the data confidentiality, the data confidentiality and the location privacy of mobile user. These services require security features compatible with the wireline networks. However, wireless networks have many restrictions compare to wireline networks such as the limited computational capability of mobile equipment and limited resource(bandwidth) between a mobile user and a fixed network. So, security features for IMT-2000 are designed to meet the limited capacity. In this paper, we analyze the required security features and mechanism, and design network access security feature effective for IMT-2000 Systems. The design includes security functions allocation to each system. Finally, discuss the computational power of each system based on at]coated functions to it
