Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering Pb(Zn1/2W1/2)O3-Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 Ceramics

  • In this study, in order to develop the composition ceramics for low loss multilayer piezoelectric actuator application, $Pb(Zn_{1/2}W_{1/2})O_3-Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ (abbreviated as PZW-PMN-PZT)ceramics according to the amount of $MnO_2$ addition were fabricated using two-stage calcinations method. And also, their dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. At the 0.2 wt% $MnO_2$ added PZW-PMN-PZT ceramics sintered at $930^{\circ}C$, density, electromechanical coupling factor $k_p$, dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r$, piezoelectric $d_{33}$ constant and mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ showed the optimum value of $7.84g/cm^3$, 0.543, 1,392, 318.7 pC/N, 1,536, respectively for low loss multilayer ceramics actuator application.

  • $Al_2O_3$-20w/o $ZrO_2$ composite powders were prepared by the emulsion-coprecipitation method and the effects of preparative conditions on powder characteristics were investigated. In the preparation of $Al_2O_3$-$ZrO_2$ composite powders, toluene was used instead of kerosene as the oil phase in emulsions. After coprecipitation, the emulsion was easily broken into a single liquid phase by adding methanol, and then precipitates could be effectively collected by filteration. The fact that all $ZrO_2$ phases present at room temperature in composite powders calcined at $1100^{\circ}C$ after washed by methanol had a tetragonal structure confirmed that methanol-washing enhanced the dispersibility of fine $ZrO_2$ particles in $Al_2O_3$ matrix. $Al_2O_3$-$ZrO_2$ composite powders were spherical particles of 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter. Pellets sintered at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs showed the relative theoretical density of 97.3% and the fracture toughness of 5.01MN/$m^{3/2}$.

  • In this paper, we investigated the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb(Sb, Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_3$ ceramic(PSN) for piezoelectric transformer and actuator etc. Effect of MnO$_2$ addition on the PSN ceramic was investigated. Anisotropic properties of electromechanical coupling factor and piezoelectric properties proved to be varied with amount of MnO$_2$ impurity and sintering temperature. The electromechanical coupling factor k$_{p}$ of 0.38 and the mechanical quality factor Q$_{m}$ of 1944 were obtained from the specimen with 0.4 wt% MnO$_2$ sintered at 115$0^{\circ}C$ addition. Experimental results indicated that the PSN ceramic with MnO$_2$ impurity can be effectively used for piezoelectric transformer and actuator.tor.

  • Water-based sol-gel 법으로 La2/3Sr1/3MnO3(LSMO)/YSZ/SiO2/Si(100) 다결정체 박막을 제조하여 YSZ 중간층 도입에 따른 상온, 120 Oe의 저 자장영역에서 측정한 tunnel-type 자기저항 변화에 미치는 영향에 대하여 고찰하였다. 페롭스카이트 단일상을 갖는 미세한 LSMO 박막을 얻을 수 있었으며, YSZ 중간층을 도입하지 않은 박막의 자기저항 변화비는 최대 약 0.20%이었으나, YSZ 중간층을 도입한 경우 자기저항비가 0.42%로 증가하였다. 이러한 tunnel-type 자기저항의 증가 현상은 YSZ 중간층이 SiO2/Si(100) 기판과 La2/3Sr1/3MnO. 자성박막 사이에서 확산 장벽층으로서의 역할을 수행하여 LSMO 박막의 미세구조 특성 향상 및 확산반응에 의하여 생성된 dead layer를 감소시켜 나타난 결과이다.

  • The effect of $ZrO_2$ dispersed phase on the mechanical properties in $Al_2O_3$-$ZrO_2$system has been studied. There are both metastable tetragonal phase and stable monoclinic phase of $ZrO_2$particles diespersed in Al2O3 matrix at room temperature. Metastable tetragonal $ZrO_2$ changes to the stable monoclinic structure within the stress field of the crack. And microcracks are formed by the expansion of $ZrO_2$during the tetragonal-monoclinic transformation on cooling. Therefore stress-induced phase transformation and inclusion-induced microcracking contribute to the mec-hanical properties of $Al_2O_3$-$ZrO_2$system. Sintered composites containing 10m/o $ZrO_2$ yield KiC values of 6.5MN/$m^{3/2}$ much greater than that of pure $Al_2O_3$ This increase results from microcrack extension and stress-induced phase transformation absor-bing energy by crack propagation. Flexural strength of composites is decreased considerably in comparison with pure $Al_2O_3$ This decrease results from microcrack as a crack former and higher porosity than pure $Al_2O_3$.

  • In this study, x PSN - y PT - z PZ ceramics doped with w $MnO_2$ were fabricated by the mixed oxide method at 1250 [$^{\circ}C$] for 2[hr] and then the dielectric and pyroelectric properties were investigated. In the 0.05 PSN - 0.4 PT - 0.55 PZ specimen with 0.5[wt%] $MnO_2$ the Pyroelectrics coefficient was $6.6{\times}10^{-8}[C/cm^2.^{\circ}C]$, respectibly.

  • Piezoelectric properties of $Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbZrO_3-PbTiO_3$ ceramics were investigated with $Al_2O_3$ content $(0.0-1.0 wt\%)$. The constituent phases, microstructure, electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric charge and voltage constants were analyzed. Diffraction peaks for (002) and (200) planes were identified by X-ray diffractometer for all the specimens doped with $Al_2O_3$, indicating the MPB (morphotropic phase boundary) composition of tetragonal structures. The highest sintered density of $7.8 g/cm^3$ was obtained for $0.2wt\%\;Al_2O_3-doped$ specimen. Grain size increased by doping $Al_2O_3$ up to $0.3 wt\%$, and it decreased by more doping. Electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric charge and voltage constants increased by doping $Al_2O_3$ up to $0.2wt\%$, and it decreased by more doping. This might result from the formation of oxygen vacancies due to defects in $O^{2-}$ ion sites and the substitution of $Al^{3+}$ ions.

  • The PSN-PT-PZ ceramics doped with the Mn-oxide(0.5wt%) were fabricated by the mixed oxide method at 1250($^{\circ}C$) for 2(hr) and then the dielectric and pyroelectric properties were investigated with the compositions. In the 0.05PSN-0.4PT-0.55PZ specimen with 0.5(wt%) $MnO_2$, the pyroelectric coefficient was $6.6{\times}10^{-8}(C/Cm^2^{\circ}C)$, and the figure of merits for pyroelectric current and voltage were $27{\times}10^{-9},\;45{\times}10^{-12}$(C.Cm/J), respectibly.

Ce0.8Sm0.2O2 Sol-gel Modification on La0.8Sr0.2Mn0.8Cu0.2O3 Cathode for Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

  • To increase the performance of solid oxide fuel cell operating at intermediate temperature ($600^{\circ}C{\sim}800^{\circ}C$), $Sm_{0.2}Ce_{0.8}O_2$ (SDC) thin layer was applied to the $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Mn_{0.8}Cu_{0.2}O_3$ (LSMCu) cathode by sol-gel coating method. The SDC was employed as a diffusion barrier layer on the yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) to prevent the interlayer by-product formation of $SrZrO_3$ or $La_2Zr_2O_7$. The by-products were hardly formed at the electrolyte-cathode interlayer resulting to reduce the cathode polarization resistance. Moreover, SDC thin film was coated on the cathode pore wall surface to extend the triple phase boundary (TPB) area.
