In this study the mixing process of two-phase flow which makes two jets existing vlocity difference are analyzed. The primary jet is jetted on the condition of the state mixed pulverized solid pariticle with air and the velocity in the secondary jet is changed into three kinds velocities(0.60, 75m/s) The velocity vector field concentration field and turbulent properties of solid particles are measured by using 3-Dimensional Particles Dynamics Analyzer. As the velocity of secondary jet increases the solid particle recirculation zone becomes larger. Also solid particle concentration gets dense due to velocity decrement of particles.

The Daehan Uiwon (Historic Site No. 248) in which the predecessor of Seoul National University Hospital is a crucial medical institution that built in the Korean Empire period. One of them, East 1 Affiliated Ward that attached to Daehan Uiwon was built with concrete foundation in 1908 and extended two times in 1935 and 1954. As a result of material scientific analysis for concrete foundation, all of the foundation is composed of mortar and stone aggregates, however, the mixing proportions between the aggregate and the mortar were confirmed to be different with construction periods. To determine the mixing proportion, and physical properties by ultrasonic velocity and rebound hardness, the concrete foundations by construction period were obtained. In result, 1954's mixing proportion of concrete between mortar and stone aggregate indicated the highest ratio of aggregates with 1 : 35, mean value of ultrasonic velocity and unconfined compressive strength were calculated with 450 m/s and 18.92 MPa in 1954's constructions that is the lowest values compared with other times. As a result, the difference characteristics of physical properties by construction periods are possible interpreted with porosities and mixing ratios of stone aggregates.
The results of study on the active control of naturally occurring combustion oscillations with a single dominant frequency in an atmospheric dump combustor are presented. Control was achieved by an oscillatory infection of secondary fuel at the dump plane. A high speed solenoid valve with a maximum frequency of 250Hz was used as the actuator and a sound level meter, located at the combustor exit, measured the pressure fluctuations which served as the feedback signal for the control loop. Instability characteristics were mapped over a range of mean mixing section velocities from 6.7 m/s-9.3 m/s and with three mixing conditions. Different fuel/air mixing conditions were investigated by introducing varying percentages of primary fuel at two locations, one at the entrance to the mixing section and one 6 mixing tube diameters upstream of the dump plane. Control studies were conducted at a mean velocity of 9.3 m/s, with an air temperature of $415^{\circ}C$, and from flame blowout to the stoichiometric condition.

In the measurement using DMA and CPC in series, there is some time delay for particles classified in DMA to detect in CPC. During this time, the DMA time-response changes due to the velocity profile of sampling tube and the diffusion of particles in the volume that exists between the DMA exit and the detector of ultra-fine CPC. This is called mixing effect. In the accelerated measurement methods like the TSI -SMPS, the size distribution is obtained from the correlation between the time-varying electrical potential of the DMA and the corresponding particle concentrations sampled in DMA. If the DMA time -response changes during this delay time, this can cause the error of a size distribution measured by this accelerated technique. The kernel function considering this mixing effect using the residence time distribution is proposed by Russell et al. In this study, we obtained a size distribution using this kernel to compare to the result obtained by the commercial accelerated measurement system, TSI -SMPS for verification and considered the errors that result from the mixing effect with the geometric mean diameters of originally sampled particles, using virtually calculated responses obtained with this kernel as input data.

As Simpson et al. (1990) emphasized the importance of the straining process in the stratification and mixing in the estuarine circulation process, various researches have investigated on the relative contribution of each process to the overall potential energy anomaly dynamics. However, many numerical works have done only for two dimensional modeling along channel or the short distance cross sectional three dimensional simulations as Burchard et al. (2008) and the estuarine channel was not simulated so far. But, in the study on the physics of shallow coastal seas, spatial dimension in the three dimensional way affects significantly on results of a particular numerical model. Therefore, the comparison of two and three dimensional models is important to understand the real physics of mixing and stratification in an estuary. Also, as Geyer and MacCready (2013) pointed out that the lateral process seems to be important in determining the periodic stratifications, to study such process the three dimensional modeling must be required. The present study uses a numerical model to show the signification roles of each term of the time-dependent dynamic equation for the potential energy anomaly (PEA) in controlling along and lateral channel flows and different stratification structures. Moreover, we present the relationships between the ${\Phi}$-advection, the depth mean straining, vertical mixing and vertical advection can explain well how water level, salinity distribution and across velocity 2D model are slightly different from 3D.
Microfluidic chips such as lab-on-a-chip (LOC) include micro-channels for sample delivery, mixing, reaction, and separation. Pressure driven flow or electro-osmotic flow (EOF) has been usually employed to deliver bio-samples. Having some advantages of easy control, the flow characteristics of EOF in microchannels should be fully understood to effectively control the electro-osmotic pump for bio-sam-pie delivery. In this study, a micro PIV system with an epifluorescence inverted microscope and a cooled CCD was used to measure velocity fields of EOF in a glass microchannel and a PDMS microchannel. The EOF velocity fields were changed with respect to electric charge of seeding particles and microchannel materials used. The EOF has nearly uniform velocity distribution inside the microchannel when pressure gradient effect is negligible. The mean streamwise velocity is nearly proportional to the applied electric field. Glass microchannels give better repeatability in PIV results, compared with PDMS microchannels which are easy to fabricate and more suitable for PIV experiments.
The flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of a turbulent buoyant jet were investigated experimentally. The instantaneous temperature and velocity fields in the near field were measured using a two-frame PIV and PLIF techniques. A thin light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the buoyant jet in which Rhodamine B was added as a fluorescent dye. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured by a CCD camera after passing an optical filter. By ensemble averaging the instantaneous temperature and velocity fields, the mean temperature and velocity fields as well as the spatial distributions of turbulent statistics were obtained. The results show the flow structure and convective heat transfer of the developing shear layer in the near field.
In the low velocity displacement air-conditioning system, the conditioned air is supplied from the diffuser placed on the wall near the floor and vented near the ceiling. This system has some advantages upon the traditional mixing system; the air quality near the people is improved by the displacing action of the system and the energy may be saved by neglecting the cooling or heating load for the upper space of the space above the people. This study is to examine the temperature and velocity distributions in the room and near the diffuser. It is found that the temperature is stratified uniformly all over the room space to show the displacing function of the system.

Effects of oxidizer inlet velocity on NO emission characteristics of 0.2MW oxy-fuel combustor have been experimentally investigated. The NO formation process in the oxy-fuel combustion is extremely sensitive even for the small fraction of nitrogen in oxidizer. By increasing the oxidizer velocity, flame length is reduced due to the enhanced turbulent mixing. The increased oxidizer velocity also results in the decreased flame temperature through the elevated entrainment rate of the recirculated product and the corresponding NO emission is drastically decreased. Experimental results clearly indicate that the entrained product gases play a crucial role to decrease the temperature at the flame zone and the post flame zone where the thermal NO is mainly formed.

Flow visualization technique incorporating photochromic dye is used to study the flow characteristics of the gravity driven laminar wavy film. The film thickness and wave speed are successfully measured by flow visualization. As the inclination angle increases, the waves have higher peaks and lower substrate thickness. The measured cross stream velocity at the free surface is up to 10% of stream wise velocity, which shows enhanced mixing in the lump of the film. The measured stream wise velocity profiles are close to parabolic profile near the substrate and the peak but show significant velocity defect near the rear side of the wave. The measured wall shear rate distributions show good agreement with the previous workers' numerical results.
