Turbulent in-situ mixing process is a new material process technology to get dispersed phase in nanometer size by controlling reaction of liquid/solid, liquid/gas, flow ana solidification speed simultaneously. In this study, mixing which is the key technology to this synthesis method was studied by computational fluid dynamics. For the simulation of mixing of liquid metal, static mixers investigated. Two inlets for different liquid metal meet ana merge like 'Y' shape tube having various shapes and radios of curve. The performance of mixer was evaluated with quantitative analysis with coefficient of variance of mass fraction. Also, detailed plots of intersection were presented to understand effect of mixer shape on mixing. The simulations show that the Reynolds number (Re) is the important factor to mixing and dispersion of $TiB_2$ particles. Mixer was designed according to the simulation, and $Cu-TiB_2$ nano composites were evaluated. $TiB_2$ nano particles were uniformly dispersed when Re was 1000, and cluster formation and reduction in volume fraction of $TiB_2$ were found at higher Re.
In this study, the effect of central fuel injection on a coaxial laminar $CH_{4}/air$ flame was experimented at the defined premixing condition(${\Phi}=1.90$, ${\sigma}=50/75/100%$, x/D=10). The partial premixing parameter are the equivalence ratio that total fuel is fixed at 200cc/min, the fuel split degree which means the percentage of fuel entering the outer tube to the total amount, and the mixing distance indicating the nonreactant mixture's homogeneity between inner tube top and burner exit. The object is to investigate the flame structure and chemiluminescence characteristics of laminar partial premixed flame as changing mixing parameters. The radical signal was acquired from ICCD camera and PMT. Each intensity was compared with Abel inverted value for measuring the effect of background light on the peak signal location and the intensity at central preheat zone. The results show that the peak location of each radical was broaden as the fuel split degree increasing because the mixing quality was enhanced. and $OH^{\ast}$ is a good indicator for flame front between reaction and preheat zone. At last $CH_{2}^{\ast}$ has the same tendency with $CH^{\ast}$ but a thinner reaction zone than $CH^{\ast}$ due to a rapid decay on the burned gas side.
In this study, the ejector design was modeled using Fluent 6.3 of FVM(Finite Volume Method) CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) techniques to resolve the flow dynamics in the ejector. A vacuum system with the ejector has been widely used because of its simple construction and easy maintenance. Ejector is the main part of the desalination system, of which designs determine the efficiency of system. The effects of the ejector was investigated geometry and the operating conditions in the hydraulic characteristics. The ejector consists mainly of a nozzle, suction chamber, mixing tube (throat), diffuser and draft tube. Liquid is supplied to the ejector nozzle, the fast liquid jet produced by the nozzle entrains and the non condensable gas was sucked into the mixing tube. The multiphase CFD modeling was carried out to determine the hydrodynamic characteristics of seawater-air ejector. Condition of the simulation was varied in entrance mass flow rate (1kg/s, 1.5kg/s, 2kg/s, 2.5kg/s, 3kg/s), and position of driving nozzle was located from the central axis of the suction at -10mm, 0mm, 10mm, 20mm, 30mm.. Asaresult, suction flow velocity has the highest value in central axis of the suction.

This study presents a new idea of liquid desiccant dehumidifier with extended surface to improve the compactness. Extended surface is inserted between vertical cooling tubes, and the liquid desiccant flows down along the tube walls and the extended surface as well. Though the extended surface contributes to the increase in the mass transfer area, the effect tends to be limited because less conductive non-metallic materials need to be applied due to the high corrosiveness of liquid desiccant. To analyze the effects of the extended surface insertion, mathematical modelling and numerical integration are performed for the heat and mass transfer in the liquid desiccant dehumidifier. The results show that, though the liquid desiccant on the extended surface is heated due to the moisture absorption, the temperature can be maintained by periodic mixing at the contact points between the tube and the extended surface with the liquid desiccant stream from the tube side at a relatively low temperature. This implies the absorption heat from the extended surface side can be removed effectively by mixing, which leads to a substantial improvement of the dehumidification in the liquid desiccant dehumidifier with extended surface. When the interval of the extended surface, $p_e/L$, is less than 0.1, the dehumidification is shown to increase by more than two times compared with that without extended surface.

Based on the viscous flow characteristics of gas through capillary tube, a simple and low cost system was developed for controlling gas concentration for use in C.A experiments. The gas flow rate through capillary tube had a linear relationship with pressure, $(length)^{-1}$ and $(radius)^4$ of capillary tube, which agreed well with Hagen-Poiseuille's law. The developed system could control the gas concentration in storage chamber within ${\pm}0.3%$ deviation compared to the preset concentration. The required time for producing target gas concentration in storage chamber was exactly predicted by the model used in this study, and it required much longer time than the calculated time which divided the volume of chamber by flow rate. Therefore, for producing target gas concentration as quickly as possible, it needs to supply higher flow rate of gas during the initial stage of experiment when gas concentration in storage chamber has not reached at target value. It appeared that the developed system was very useful for C.A experiments. Because one could decide a desired flow rate by the prediction model, control flow rate freely and easily by changing pressure in the pressure-regulating chamber and the accuracy was high.
In the present study, a micro holographic PTV (HPTV) system was used to experimentally investigate the structure of 3D flow within a curved micro-tube with varying Dean number. The employed HPTV system incorporated a high-speed digital camera to measure the temporal evolution of the 3D velocity fields of micro-scale fluid flows. With increasing Dean number, flow in the curved tube is transformed from a steady flow to a secondary flow with two counter-rotating vortices. In this study, to analyze the 3D flow characteristics in the curved section of tube at a high Dean number, the trajectories of fluid particles were obtained experimentally using the whole 3D velocity field data obtained by the micro HPTV technique. The mean velocity field distribution was then obtained by ensemble averaging the instantaneous velocity fields. These results would be helpful in the design of various passages within micro-scale devices or micro-chips and in understanding the mixing phenomena that occur in curved conduits along the trajectories of fluid particles.

The present work experimentally investigated the effects of mass flux, heat flux, inlet quality on the heat transfer performance inside the U-bend of smooth and microfin tube using R-22 and R-407C refrigerants. The parameters were 200 and 400 kg/m$^{2}$ s for mass flux, 6 and 12 kw/m$^{2}$ for heat flux, 0.1 and 0.2 for inlet quality under the pressure of 0.65 MPa. The apparatus consisted of the test section of four straight sections and three U-bends, preheater, condenser, refrigerant pump, mass flow meter etc. The average heat transfer coefficient at the downstream straight section after U-bend was affected by U-bend due to the centrifugal force and mixing of two-phase flow in the U-bend. The average heat transfer coefficient at the U-bend was 4 ~ 33 % higher than that at the straight section. The average heat transfer coefficients were affected in the order of mass flux, heat flux and inlet quality. The average heat transfer coefficients in the microfin tube were lager by 19 ~ 49% and 33 ~ 69% than that in the smooth tube at the straight section and at the U-bend separately. The average heat transfer coefficients for R-407C were larger by 33 ~ 41% and 17 ~ 29% than that for R-22 in the smooth tube and the microfin tube separately.
An enhancement of the oxygen transfer rate in a 1$\ell$ bioreactor for mammalian cell culture by using a silicone rubber tubing as an oxygenator was investigated. When the silicone membrane was used to supply oxygen to the culture broth, the oxygen transfer coefficients ($k_{\iota}a$) measured in deionized-distilled water were markedly increased. Effect of surface aeration without the tubing aeration was very low under $1.0hr^{-1}$ of $k_{\iota}a$. The enhancing effects of agitation rates on $k_{\iota}a$ were much more effective than those of aeration rates. The increase of $k_{\iota}a$ with increasing tube length was observed as a result of the large surface area for oxygen supply. However, 2 m of the tube length was adequate for a 1$\ell$ vessel. The larger blade type of impeller was effective to enhance the kLa values because of its high mixing intensity. In culture medium supplemented with 5% serum, kLa values were reduced to approximately 40% probably due to the viscosity. We also obtained the normal cell concentration of $5{\times}10^6$ cells/m$\ell$ of HepG2 on microcarriers, which could be achieved in a typical bioreactor for animal cell culture.
Heat transfer augmentation based on the process intensification concept in heat exchangers and thermal reactors has received much attention in recent years, mainly due to energy efficiency and environmental considerations. The concept consists of the development of novel apparatuses and techniques that, compared to those commonly used today, are expected to bring dramatic improvements in manufacturing and processing, substantially decreasing equipment size, energy consumption, and ultimately resulting in cheaper, sustainable technologies. The objective of this paper was to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of tubular thermal reactor using static mixing technology. Glycerin and water were used as the test fluids and water was used as the heating source. The results for heat transfer rate were strongly influenced by tube geometry and flow conditions.

Numerical analysis is made on the turbulent heat transfer with suspension of solid particles in circular tube with constant heat flux. The mean motion of suspending particles in mixture is treated as the secondary gas flow with virtual density and viscosity. Our modeling of turbulent transport phenomena of suspension flow is based on this assumption and conventional mixing length theory. This paper gives the evidence that the mixing length models can be extended to close the governing equations for two phase turbulent flow with solid boundary at a first order level. Results on Nusselt numbers obtained by analytical treatments are compared with available experimental data and discussed. They suggest that the most important parameters of two phase turbulent heat transfer phenomena are relative particle diameter to pipe diameter, gas-solid loading ratio, and specific heat of suspending material.
