Genetic Parameter Estimation with Normal and Poisson Error Mixed Models for Teat Number of Swine

  • The teat number of a sow plays an important role for weaning pigs and has been utilized in selection of swine breeding stock. Various linear models have been employed for genetic analyses of teat number although the teat number can be considered as a count trait. Theoretically, Poisson error mixed models are more appropriate for count traits than Normal error mixed models. In this study, the two models were compared by analyzing data simulated with Poisson error. Considering the mean square errors and correlation coefficients between observed and fitted values, the Poisson generalized linear mixed model (PGLMM) fit the data better than the Normal error mixed model. Also these two models were applied to analyzing teat numbers in four breeds of swine (Landrace, Yorkshire, crossbred of Landrace and Yorkshire, crossbred of Landrace, Yorkshire, and Chinese indigenous Min pig) collected in China. However, when analyzed with the field data, the Normal error mixed model, on the contrary, fit better for all the breeds than the PGLMM. The results from both simulated and field data indicate that teat numbers of swine might not have variance equal to mean and thus not have a Poisson distribution.

  • [ $25^{\circ}C$ ] 순수 물에서 음이온성 계면활성제인 DBS(sodium dodecyl benzenesulfonate)와 SDS(sodium dodecylsulfate) 그리고 비이온성 계면활성제인 Brij 30(polyoxyethylene(4) lauryl ether) 사이의 혼합미셀화에 대한 임계미셀농도(CMC)와 반대이온의 결합상수값(B)을 전도도법과 표면장력계법으로 측정하였다. 이와 같이 측정한 CMC값에 비이상적 혼합미셀화 모델을 적용함으로써 여러 가지 열역학적 함수값($X_i,\;{\gamma}i,\;C_i,\;a_i^M,\;{\beta}$${\Delta}H_{mix}$)들을 계산하여 상호 비교분석하였다. 그 결과, SDS는 DBS보다 Brij 30과 더욱 강한 상호작용을 이루었으며, SDS/Brij 30 혼합계면활성제가 이상적 혼합미셀화로부터 가장 큰 음의 벗어남을 보였다. 그리고 SDS/DBS 혼합계면활성제는 거의 이상적 혼합미셀화를 이루는 것으로 나타났다.

인공지반에서 금잔디의 증발산량 예측에 관한 연구 -퍼라이트 배합토에서 Makkink의 일사법을 이용하여- (A Study on the Estimation of Zoysia matrella's Evaporation Using Makkink Model)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the difference of Zoysia matrella's evaporation in between 100 percent soil and mixed soil with 50 percent of perlite to create green spaces on the artificial ground. It is believed that the weight against the artificial ground will be reduced, provided the vegetation is possible in the circumstance of the mixed sol with 50 percent of perlite. The study employed a modified Makkink's model by Iwasa who had developed the model for estimating Zoysia matrella's evaporation in the natural ground using the Makkink's formula in 1997 at Chiba University, Japan. The parameter of Makkink's formula is the solar radiation. For that reason, the Makkink's formula is simple and easy to measure the parameter and has a high utility. If the outcomes from mixed soil are close to modified Makkinks formula, the modified Makkink's formula will be applied to estimate in the artificial ground with mixed soil with 50 percent of perlite. Weather observation and actual amount of evaporation of Zoysia matrella have been measured, and the relation between weather condition and actual amount of evaporation had been also investigated. In line with this, we found out that there is a relevant relationship between daily average temperature, the modified Makkink's model by Iwasa, and the actual amount of evaporation. As the results of the experiment, the outcomes from mixed soil with 50 percent of perlite have very high relation to 100 percent soil. In addition, mixed soil has more adhesion with water than natural soil. However, it needs to be adequately maintained in terms of fertilization and damage from disease and harmful insects until the gras fastens its roots into the soil. By using mixed soil with 50 percent of perlite, the load from soil on the artificial ground can be reduced. The study on the growth of the grass throughout the plant vegetation and the actual amount of evaporation in the mixed soil with 50 percent of perlite should be performed in the future.

Terra/MODIS 자료를 이용한 연안 대기경계층의 연직구조 (Vertical Structure of the Coastal Atmospheric Boundary Layer Based on Terra/MODIS Data)

  • Micrometeorlogical and upper air observation have been conducted in order to determine the atmospheric boundary layer depth based on data from satellite and automatic weather systems. Terra/MODIS temperature profiles and sensible heat fluxes from the gradient method were used to estimate the mixed layer height over a coastal region. Results of the integral model were in good agreement with the mixed layer height observed using GPS radiosonde at Wolsung ($35.72^{\circ}N$, $129.48^{\circ}E$). Since the variation of the mixed layer height depends on the surface sensible heat flux, the integral model estimated properly the mixed layer height in the daytime. The buoyant heat flux, which is more important than the sensible heat flux in the coastal region, must be taken into consideration to improve the integral model. The vertical structure of atmospheric boundary layer can be analyzed only with the routine data and the satellite data.

Simulation of the Mixed Layer in the Western Equatorial Pacific Warm Pool

  • The upper ocean in the western equatorial Pacific warm pool during TOGA-COARE IMET IOP was simulated using a one-dimensional turbulence closure ocean mixed-layer model, which considered recent observations, such as the remarkable enhancement of turbulent kinetic energy near the ocean surface. The shoaling/deepening of the mixed layer and warming/cooling subsurface water in the model were in reasonable agreement with the observations. There was a significant improvement in simulating the cooling trend of the sea surface temperature under a westerly wind burst with heavy rainfall over previous simulations using bulk mixed-layer models. By contrast the simulated sea surface salinity (SSS) departed significantly from the observed SSS, especially during a westerly burst and the subsequent restratification period, which might be due to 3-D control processes, such as downwelling/upwelling or advection.

  • 지역 또는 도메인에 작은 크기의 표본이 배정되어 추정의 정도가 나쁜 경우에 사용되는 준모수적 또는 비모수적 소지역 추정법은 최근 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 커널을 이용한 국소다항 혼합모형 소지역 추정법과 벌점 스플라인을 이용한 혼합모형 소지역 추정법이 연구되었다. 이 두 방법과 소지역추정에 흔히 사용되고 있는 선형 혼합모형을 모의실험을 통해 그 우수성을 비교하였다.

복합적 감정(mixed feelings)에 대한 감정차원 연구 (English Title - A Study of Emotional Dimension for Mixed Feelings)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존에 Russell의 감정차원 모델(A Circumplex model)상에서 데이터의 분산 값을 줄이고, 복합적감정(mixed feelings)을 표현하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. Russell의 감정차원 모델은 감정을 뜻하는 단어(기쁨, 슬픔, 행복, 신남 등)를 제시한 뒤, 자가진단방식(SAM)을 이용하여 단어들의 평균과 분산을 구하고, 각 단어들을 PAD차원(Pleasure, Arousal, Dominance)에 하나의 점으로 표시한다. 하지만 다른 연구자에 의하여 Russell모델의 문제점으로 각 단어들의 분산 값이 커서 데이터의 신뢰도나 정확성이 떨어지며, Russell의 모델의 구조에선 복합적 감정(mixed feelings)을 표현할 수 없는 등의 문제점들이 지속적으로 제기되었다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 문제점을 보완하기 위해 설문 방식의 변화를 통해서 실험을 진행하여, 데이터의 분산 값을 줄일 수 있었다. 또한 복합적 감정을 유발 할 수 있는 실험을 통해 감정 상태의 긍정적/부정적인 부분의 관계를 확인해보고, Russell모델에서도 복합적 감정을 표현할 수 있음을 입증하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법을 이용하여 기존의 연구에서 보다 신뢰도와 정확도가 높은 데이터를 얻을 수 있으며, Russell모델을 적용시키기 어려웠던 생체신호, 복합적 감정, 실감 방송 등의 여러 분야에 적용 시킬 수 있다.

표층혼합층 생태계모델을 이용한 동해 식물플랑크톤의 계절변화 (Seasonal Variation of Phytoplankton in the East Sea Using A Surface Mixed Layer Ecosystem Model)

  • Seasonal variation of phytoplankton was investigated with surface mixed layer ecosystem model in the East Sea. The model consisted of four compartments (phytoplankton, zooplankton, nutrient, detritus) forced by mixed layer depths, photosynthetically available radiation and nutrient concentrations. From model results we estimated entrainment rate $2.5-4.0\;m{\cdot}day^{-1}$ to reproduce the two annual blooms, and reproduced seasonal variation of phytoplankton at southern and northern regions by the difference of surface winter mixed layer depth (MLD) using the entrainment rate value $3.0\;m{\cdot}day^{-1}$. The spring blooms in the southern and northern regions closely related to deepening of a winter surface MLD. In the southern region where MLD was shallow and phytoplankton spring bloom occurs one month in advance to the northern region where MLD was deep. The amount of light increases within the MLD during the onset of stratification and water temperature increases faster in spring in the southern region than the northern region. Decrease of phytoplankton was mainly affected by zooplankton grazing in the southern region and by nutrient exhaustion in the northern region. The fall bloom in the two regions was caused by the nutrient availability and entrainment on the phytoplankton.

A marginal logit mixed-effects model for repeated binary response data

  • This paper suggests a marginal logit mixed-effects for analyzing repeated binary response data. Since binary repeated measures are obtained over time from each subject, observations will have a certain covariance structure among them. As a plausible covariance structure, 1st order auto-regressive correlation structure is assumed for analyzing data. Generalized estimating equations(GEE) method is used for estimating fixed effects in the model.
