Effect of Anion Generating Air Cleaner on the Components of ETS in a Closed Room (음이온 발생 공기청정기에 의한 밀폐된 실내공간에서의 ETS성분 변화)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of anion generating air cleaner to remove gases, vapor and particles from closed room contaminated with environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). The measurements covered particle sizes of 13.8-542.5nm, particle concentration, surface area, volumes UVPM, FPM, solanesol, and the following gases and vapor; carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and 3-ethenylpyridine. Tobacco smoke was generated and mixed in a closed room in which the airflow rates were in the range of 0.00-0.04 m/s. The anion generating air cleaner was startedl and the decay rates for the gases, vapor and particles were measured, When the use of anion generating air cleaner, solid components of ETS, such as respirable suspended particle (RSP), utraviolet particulate matter (UVPM, fluorescent particulate matter (FPM) and solanesol was sharply decreased, and vapor phase components of ETS, such as nicotines 3-ethenylpyidine were modelately decreased by time elapse. Even the use of anion generation air cleaner, the decreasing rate of carbon dioxide concentration was similar with control, and the decreasing rate of carbon monoxide was slower than that of control. Our results indicated that the use of anion generting air cleaner had an effect on reduction of solid and vapor components from ETs, but it had no effect on gaseous components of ETS.

  • AC spark discharge voltage of SF6/C02and SF6/N2 containing various mixed rate in volume percent (1, 5 and 10%) of SF6 in non-uniform fields are investigated. The needle to plane electrode gap spacing was 5 and 10 mm, and the gas pressure was varied within the range of 0.1${\sim}$0.7 MPa. We have observed a N-characteristic typical for the electronegative gases even in gas mixtures of 1% SF6 with CO2 and N2 as buffer gases. Especially, the materials of the needle electrode affect the insulation properties of the gas mixtures drastically. On the contrary to the case of needle electrodes made by mild steel or high carbon steel, the N-characteristics are hardly perceived in the case of stainless steel needle in this experiment.

  • The research was tried to investigate the hydrogen generation from water by the pulsed power plasma process. Hydrogen was generated by way of the electrical pulse power discharge process with the ultrasonic wave. The yield on the hydrogen generation was also studied with and without operating the ultrasonic generator, in which the applied high voltage was varied from 10 kV to 15 kV. Nitrogen and argon gases were used as working gases. As the results, the generation yield using the pure nitrogen gas is better than argon and mixed gases such as argon and nitrogen. Hydrogen concentration are significantly increased when the ultrasonic generator was operated with the electrical discharge simultaneously. It is increased with increasing the applied ultrasonic level as well.

Analysis Method of Volatile Sulfur Compounds Utilizing Separation Column and Metal Oxide Semiconductor Gas Sensor

  • Gas chromatography (GC) separation technology and metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors have been integrated for the effective analysis of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) such as H2S, CH3SH, (CH3)2S, and (CH3)2S2. The separation and detection characteristics of the GC/MOS system using diluted standard gases were investigated for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of VSCs. The typical concentrations of the standard gases were 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0, and 10.0 ppm. The GC/MOS system successfully separated H2S, CH3SH, (CH3)2S, and (CH3)2S2 using a celite-filled column. The reproducibility of the retention time measurements was at a 3% relative standard deviation level, and the correlation coefficient (R2) for the VSC concentration was greater than 0.99. In addition, the chromatograms of single and mixed gases were almost identical.

  • Maewol Feldspar Mine produces feldspar ore from pegmatites. K-Rb Age of muscovite is 137.7Ma. Fluid inclusions in quartz crystal of the pegmatite show bimodal distribution of homogenization temperatures. The high homogenization temperatures range from 290 to $302^{\circ}C$ while low homogenization temperatures range from 157 to $195^{\circ}C$. Three phases liquid $CO_2$ bearing inclusions indicate $CO_2$ gases were abundantly mixed with granitic melt until the pegmatic magma melt cooled to $290^{\circ}C$. Low density of the magmatic melt relative to the same volume of granitic magma is due to mixture of volatiles(mainly $CO_2$ gases) with the melt and larger space and slow cooling allowed to grow crystals of the pegmatic magma.

  • As a first phase of plasma study intended for semiconductor processing research, we have studied the discharge phenomena. In particular, we have obtained a specific formula for the breakdown voltage as a function of the neutral state pressure of reactive gases. Our experimental results with H2,O2,Ar,CF4 seem ro verify this formula. In addition we find the voltage levels for various gases in the descending order of CF4>O2=Ar>H2 in high pressure region, while H2>CF4>O2>Ar in low pressure region. When H2 and CF4 were mixed, we observe the overall voltage dominated by the gas with lower breakdown volotage.

  • In this paper, we have investigated the output characteristics of the Stokes Raman laser in hydrogen, deuterium, and their mixed gases as a function of the incident pump energy and gas pressure using KrF excimer laser as pumping source for generating the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) wavelengths suitable in measuring the ozone concentration of the troposphere. The optimization results of compact excimer-Raman laser transmitter in DIAL system for the tropospheric ozone sounding at the 292 nm/319 m and 292 nm/313 nm wavelength pairs are presented. for the ozone sounding in the 4-12 km range, it has been demonstrated that the design of transmitter for DIAL lidar may be significantly simplified by the use of 292 nm/319 nm wavelength pair. The investigations of Raman scattering in the mixture of hydrogen and deuterium gases have shown that such mixture may be efficiently used for developing the multi- wavelength light sources for DIAL systems.

  • Amount of spatter, welding conditions and welding costs were investigated for MAG welding. $CO_2$, Ar+18%;$CO_2$ and Ar+8%$O_2$ were used for shielding gases. As results, arc characteristics and appropriate range for welding were obtained. Amount of spatter in Ar+18%$CO_2$ gas welding was 20% of that of $CO_2$ welding, and Ar+8%$O_2$ was 10% of that of $CO_2$ welding. Therefore by using Ar+18%$CO_2$and Ar+8%$O_2$ gases, welding costs could be reduced compared with $CO_2$ welding due to avoiding spatter.

  • Al-rich coatings were prepared on hot rolled low carbon steel by hot dipping method in molten Al-bath to investigate the corrosion resistance with the possible outcomes and defects of aluminized coatings in air and $Ar-0.2%SO_2$ mixed gases. Coating microstructure was composed of an inner Al-Fe intermetallic layer and outer Al-rich layer. Aluminum oxidized preferentially to the thin, outer, protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, without forming the nonprotective iron/sulfur-oxide layer after heating at $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 h, in both the gases and provided the resistance against corrosion.
