Estimates of genetic correlation between direct and maternal effects for weaning weight of beef cattle are often negative in field data. The biological existence of this genetic antagonism has been the point at issue. Some researchers perceived such negative estimate to be an artifact from poor modeling. Recent studies on sources affecting the genetic correlation estimates are reviewed in this article. They focus on heterogeneity of the correlation by sex, selection bias caused from selective reporting, selection bias caused from splitting data by sex, sire by year interaction variance, and sire misidentification and inbreeding depression as factors contributing sire by year interaction variance. A biological justification of the genetic antagonism is also discussed. It is proposed to include the direct-maternal genetic covariance in the analytical models.
Hypoptychus dybowskii, the Korean sandlance, is widespread in cold areas of the North Pacific. Although H. dybowskii has been considered to occur on the coast of Hamgyeongnam-do in Korea, the species is also distributed along the coast of Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, south of Hamgyeongnam-do in the eastern part of the Korean Peninsula on the basis of newly collected specimens. In addition, many Koreans confuse H. dybowskii and Ammodytes japonicus (= A. personatus for Korean specimens) because the Korean common name or dialect of both species is "Yang-mi-ri", yet the two species differ in their external morphology. Hypoptychus dybowskii differs from A. japonicus in the location of the origin of the dorsal fin and the number of dorsal and anal fin rays.
Two dytiscid beetle species, Hyphydrus falkenstromi Gschwendtner and Sandracottus mixtus (Blanchard), are identified for the first time in Korea. Hydaticus pacificus Aube previously recorded in Korea was misidentification of S. mixtus. Habitus photographs, redescriptions, and diagnostic characters with line drawings of the species are provided.

Phytolaccaceae had been used as a pharmaceutical drugs or food in Korea. Nowadays, it is rarely used due to its toxicity, and then, case reports as to poisoning also are rare. Recently, Authors experienced a case of an occurrence in a group intoxication after ingestion of roots of phytolacca american a misidentifying as arrowroot. We report this case with review of phytolacca radix poisoning.

After the first record of a Korean ciliate in 1931, more than 130 papers have been published describing Korean ciliates. Of these records, the years 1997, 2012, and 2016 include milestone publications in Korea. Even though the publications provide summarized data about Korean ciliates with relevant literature citations, these publications included two nomenclatural errors, two misspellings, and one misidentification; nine species were transferred to other genera. Furthermore, the type specimens deposited in the laboratory of Prof. Joong Ki Choi (Inha University, Korea) were transferred to the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (MABIK) because of his retirement. Here, we provide an updated list of 331 Korean species described by 2016 and present information about the type specimens. We also and address the aforementioned problems with bringing together scattered data related to ciliate lists.
Scolelepis (Scolelepis) lingulata is newly reported in Korean waters. This species, collected from the intertidal zone of the Yellow Sea, is in good agreement with the original and subsequent descriptions in presence of occipital antenna, conspicuously large and lingulate interramal lobes in posterior chaetigers, absence of hooded hooks in notopodia, and unidentate hooded hooks present in neuropodia. Additionally, Korean specimens previously identified as Scolelepis(Scolelepis) kudenovi are reexamined based on the morphology. As a result, these specimens were identified as Scolelepis (Scolelepis) daphoinos in terms of the presence of reddish-brown pigmentation along the transverse ciliated bands on the dorsum. The identification key to Scolelepis species from Korean waters is provided.
The genus Haraldiophyllum comprises seven species worldwide. Six of these are endemics with limited distributions, whereas the type species H. bonnemaisonii has been reported from the Atlantic Ocean. In Korea, H. bonnemaisonii has been previously recorded from the southern coast. During a red algal collection at Udo, Jeju Island, Korea, we found a potentially undescribed Haraldiophyllum species and analyzed its morphology and rbcL sequences. Herein we describe a new species, H. udoensis sp. nov., and compare our Udo specimen to similar congeners. This new species is characterized by one or several elliptical blades on a short cylindrical stipe with fibrous roots, blades that are monostromatic except at the base and on reproductive structures, a lack of network and microscopic veins, entire margins, lack of proliferations, growth through many marginal initials, and two distinct tetrasporangia layers. A phylogenetic rbcL sequence analysis demonstrated H. udoensis was distinct from the United Kingdom's H. bonnemaisonii, as well as from other species. Morphological and sequence data indicated a previous misidentification of H. udoensis as the type species H. bonnemaisonii. Based on maximum likelihood analysis, Myriogramme formed a sister clade with H. udoensis, with relatively low bootstrap support.
The chromosome analyses of blood culture were made of 11 Korean native and 53 crossbred males between the Korean native cattles(K) and Charolais(C), which consisted of $K\times$K, $C\times$K, $C\times$CK, CK$\times$CCK and Charolais synthetic males(CK$\times$CCK or CCK$\times$CK). 1. The diploid(2n=60, XY) Charolais synthetic male has the 29 pairs of acrocentric autosomes, a single large submetacentric X and a small metacentric Y chromosome. 2. The numbers of G-band of karyotype in these males were a few differences in the 8 pairs of autosomes(chromosome 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 19 and 26) compared to those of purebred Korean native ones. G-banding qualities were not matched in chromosome 16, 19 and 29 with the Korean native males and also in chromosome 14, 20 and 22 with other domestic cattles. 3. The G-banding pattern between chromosome 4-6-7 and 24-25-27 was alomost similar together and the possibilityof misidentification was greater in the G-banded preparations. 4. 1/29 Robertsonian translocation and other abnormalities were not observed among 11 Korean native and 53 crossbred males. This result is considered in relation to limited data and further investigation based on larger samples may be necessary for definite conclusion.

In this paper, we propose a new inspection method that applies fuzzy reasoning method considering the difference of brightness and intensity of illumination by bend together. In the preprocessing phase, we compensate the degree of semiconductor images with bilinear interpolation and moment-rotation. Then we use fuzzy reasoning method with the difference of brightness from error region by pattern matching and the difference of intensity of illumination from bends. Then the result is difuzzified and applied to the final inspection process. In experiment which uses 30 real world semiconductors with strait shots and side shots, the proposed method successfully discard the false positive identified by conventional brightness comparison only method without any loss of misidentification.

This study aims to assess the mobile information technology as an alternative means for managing information of irrigation facilities. Traditional irrigation facility management which is operated manually has faced to critical limitations, such as delayed and loss in data handling and facilities misidentification. Real time download, collection, and update the information about the irrigation structure conditions in terms of operation and maintenance can provide a better support of the management efforts. Thus this study suggested mobile information technology using RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) and QR (Quick Response) code for real time information management of irrigation facilities. This paper describes the applications and implementation results of real-time mobile technology for the field information communication of the irrigation facilities. The system was tested in I-dong irrigation districts in Gyounggi-province, Korea and the assessment of operability demonstrated beneficial usability for inspection of agricultural irrigation facilities in the irrigation district. The tests showed that RFID was preferred method expected to improve operability although these had some limitation. The mobile technologies are expected to increase efficiency and effectiveness of irrigation facilities management.
