  • Refraction tomography was developed to interpret subsurface velocity structure easily in topographic conditions. It was applied to synthetic refraction data to find the factors for optimization of applicability of refraction tomography such as configuration of profiling and its length, spacing of geophones and sources and topographic conditions. Also, low velocity layer near VSP hole could be detected by joint inversion with refraction and VSP data. Continuity of subsurface velocity structure in two different spread lines for area of house land development was good in case of applying our algorithm and velocity structure was classified quantitatively to evaluate rippability for engineering works.

  • We introduce a new acoustic parameter for the classification of seafloor sediments from chirp sonar acoustic profiling data. The acoustic parameter is defined as a derivative of the unwrapped phase of the Fourier transform of acoustic profiling data. Consequently, it represents the characteristics of attenuation by dissipative dispersion in sediments. And we estimated acoustic properties by geoacoustic modeling using Chirp data obtained from the different sedimentary facies. Our classification results, when compared with the results of analysis of sampled sediments, show that the acoustic parameter discriminates sedimentary facies and bottom hardness. Thus the method in this paper is expected to be an effective means of geoacoustic modeling of the seafloor.

  • Based on the interpretation of 3D seismic profiles acquired in the northwestern area of the Ulleung Basin, East Sea, the shallow sediments consist of five seismic units separated by regional reflectors. An anticline is present in the study area that documents activity of many faults. Bottom simulating reflectors are characterized by high RMS amplitude. Acoustic blanking with low RMS amplitude is distinctively recognized in the gas hydrate stability zone. Seismic attribute analysis shows that if gas hydrates are underlain by free gas, the high reflection strength and the low instantaneous frequency are displayed below the boundary between them. Whereas, if not, the reflection strength is low and instantaneous frequency is high continuously below the gas hydrate zone. Based on the spectral decomposition of the bottom simulating reflector, the high envelope at the specific high frequency range indicates the generation of the tuning effect due to the lower free gas content. Four models for the occurrence of the gas hydrate are suggested considering the slope of sedimentary layers as well as the presence of gas hydrate or free gas.

  • Unmanned exploration rovers serve as tools for investigating mineral resources, mining, and carrying out various scientific on celestial bodies beyond Earth, acting on behalf of humans. Recently, not only the United States but also other countries such as Japan, India and China have been attempting to develop unmanned planetary exploration rovers for space development or have successfully operated them on other celestial bodies. This has accelerated the enthusiasm for space exploration and development. However, the development and operation of unmanned rovers for planetary exploration still entail significant costs and high risks, making it difficult for universities or companies to undertake such project independently without the guidance of financial backing from government entities. In this paper, we describe the recent development trends of micro-rovers, known as Cube Rovers, which inherit the concepts and definitions of traditional Cube Sat. We also introduce the potential and expectations of Cube Rovers through the necessity of their development and ongoing planetary exploration cases.

  • Motivation of this study is based on these two aspects: geologic uses of ASTER and application scheme of Spectral Mixture Analysis. This study aims at geologic mapping for mineral exploration using ASTER and LANDSAT 7 ETM+ at Mongolian plateau region by SMA. After basic pre-processing such as the normalization, geometric corrections and calibration of reflectance, related to endmembers selection and spectral signature deviation, both methods using spectral library and using PPI(Pixel Purity Index) are performed and compared on a given task. Based on these schemes, SMA is performed using LANDSAT 7 ETM+ and ASTER image. As the results, fraction map showing geologic rock types are enough to meet purposes such as geologic mapping and mineral potential mapping in the case of both uses of these different types of remotely sensed images. It concluded that this approach based on SMA with LANDSAT and ASTER is regarded as one of effective schemes for geologic remote sensing.

  • Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) nanoparticles were prepared by the oxidation of titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) in a diffusion flame reactor. The average diameter of particles was 15 to 30 nm and mass fraction of anatase ranged from $40\;to\;80\%$. Effects of particle size and phase composition of those $TiO_2$ nanoparticles on photocatalytic properties such as decomposition of methylene blue and bacteria gas were investigated. The degree of decomposition of methylene blue by the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles under the illumination of the black light was directly proportional to the anantase mass fraction, but inversely to the particle size. The decomposition of bacteria by the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles under the illumination of the fluorescent light showed the same trend as in the case of the methylene blue.

  • The general red-mud minerals consist of hematite, sodalite, anatase, quartz, gibbsite and miner impurities. This gives serious environmental damage for the ocean disposal. It mixed with chloride compound and the content of chlorine is about 2,000-3,000ppm. This paper can be suggested the chloride reduction technology that is applied basically mineral processing by physical separation. Then it can be possible to produce the totally 24wt. $\%$ useful red-mud which chloride content is less then 400ppm.

  • We obtained amorphous calcium carbonate through the carbonation reaction of $Ca(OH)_2$, and through this reaction, observed changes in particle shape and phase by electric conductivity, XRD and TEM analysis. According to the result of the analysis, in the first declining stage of electric conductivity, amorphous calcium carbonate that has formed is coated on the surface of $Ca(OH)_2$ and obstructs its dissolution, and in the first recovery stage of electric conductivity, amorphous calcium carbonate is dissolved and re-precipitated and forms chains of fine calcite particles linearly joined. In the second decline of conductivity, viscosity increases due to the growth of chains of calcite particles, and finally the calcite particles are dissolved and separated into colloidal crystalline calcite, thereby increasing electric conductivity again.

  • The ore depositional and geochemical exploration on Bougouni area in Mali, central-western Africa covering $2,000\;Km^2$ was conducted for determining the detailed survey area. According to the results of this exploration, the highly potential area for the zinc-tin-gold-silver mineralization was found in Kolani and Riarako areas. The contents of zinc in heavy sand collected in the stream sediments range from 14 to 8,600 ppm, while the mean values of zinc in this area are 543 ppm with threshold($x+2{\sigma}$) of zinc anomalies being 1,000 ppm in Bougouni area. Generally zinc anomalies are associated with the tin and molybdenum anomalies and hence the anomalous area was selected for the detailed survey area for tracing the primary zinc and precious ore deposits related to these anomalies in following project.

  • It is reported that Li-bearing minerals regarding as a promising battery industrial commodity occur in the Mogok metamorphic belt, Myanmar. Preliminary considerations on the mineralization of pegmatite occurrences within Mogok metamorphic belt such as Singu, Mogok and Momeik are as follows. In Singu area, lepidolite and rubellite occur together (Letpanhla No. 2 & 7 pegmatite) while rubellite only occur (Letpanhla No. 4 pegmatite). In Mogok area, lepidolite and rubellite occur together (Sakangyi pegmatite). In Momeik area, lepidolite and rubellite occur together (Pheyeou pegmatite) while rubellite only occur (Khetchel Ywar Thit pegmatite). In the future, it is estimated that it is necessary to implement the detailed exploration for the resource evaluation of lithium-bearing mineral targeted for the pegmatite of Mogok metamorphic belt.
