Studies on Establishment of Oversown Pasture Seed I. Effects of coating materials and minerals on germination (겉뿌린 목초종자의 정착에 관한 연구 I. 각종 증량재 및 미량광물질의 종자피복이 발아에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out in laboratory to find out the effect of coating materials, minerals and insecticides on germination of pasture seed. Seed coating was made by specially made machine and seed germination in petridishes was also determined from Sep. 1986 to May 1987. The results were summarized as follows; 1. Coating seed gave bad germination compared with the control. There were significant difference between treatment, coating materials and adhesives in white and red clover while Phleum pratense germination was improved by coating materials. 2. In mineral coating treatments, on Mg alone or Mg mixed treatment, germination was deepressed. Generally germination was lowed by mineral treatment, but the difference was small. 3. Uncoating treatment with insecticide was superior to coating treatment in terms of germination. Among the insecticide Ballen gave more serious effect to seed germination.

Fabrication of Mineral Coating for Slow-releasing Action and Characteristic (완효성을 위한 광물질 피복의 제조와 용출특성연구)

  • Porous mineral coating have been fabricated and applied for basic research on their slow release action to a fertilizer. Feldspar was selected as raw mineral for the coating and two different particle sizes of powder were prepared. Slow-release action was estimated by using a potassium sulfate fertilizer. Spherical pellets were prepared with a pan-type pelletizer and then screened into sizes ranging 1.4 to 2.35mm. While the fertilizer pellets were rotated in the pelletizer again, the feldspar powder and 0.5% polyvinyl alcohol solution were simultaneously sprayed on the pellets. The fertilizer pellets coated with feldspar powder were fabricated. The pellets were heated to increase their strength and screened to sort by coating thickness. Potassium releasing tests were conducted for 40 days and the performance for slow-release action was estimated as functions of the heating temperature, coating thickness and raw mineral powder size. The Burst effect caused high initial releasing rate. Releasing kinetics was proportional to concentration of potassium in pellets. The pellet that was fabricated with $27.4{\mu}m$-sized feldspar and heated at $1050^{\circ}C$ showed a releasing rate of 43% on the 40th day.

  • In this paper, we described about the characteristic evaluation of environment-friendly ceramic paint with calcium-silicate mineral as a main binder. Particularly, we performed discharge of the environmental poisoning materials(e.g. VOCs, heavy metal, etc.), and properties of paint slurry and coating film of the ceramic paint. In the comparison of the ceramic paint with natural paint and mineral paint which were known as our environment-friendly paints, ceramic paint had good characteristics in the environmental safety and properies of wet slurry and dried coating film.

Preparation of Nanocrystalline TiO2 Coated Coal Fly Ash by Dropping Method of Coating Agent and Photocatalytic Characterization (페복제 적하법에 의한 나노 결정 TiO2 피복 석탄회의 제조와 광촉매 특성)

  • $TiO_2$-coated fly ash was synthesized by dropping method of coating agent in order to get $TiO_2$ coating layer with high photocatalytic activity on the surface of coal fly ash. The properties of the $TiO_2$ coating layer such as morphology, crystal structure, crystal size and photocatalytic activity were compared with those of the $TiO_2$-coated fly ash prepared by the traditional method of precipitation. $TiCl_4$ aqueous solution was used as a titanium stock solution and $NH_4HCO_3$ was used as a precipitant. The $TiO_2$ coating layer obtained by dropping method of coating agent was more uniform than that coated by precipitation. However, the crystal of $TiO_2$ coated by dropping method of coating agent was easy to grow by heat treatment because of the small primary particle size and bulky morphology, and its photocatalytic activity was consequently lower than that of the $TiO_2$ coated by precipitation. The $TiO_2$ coating layer obtained by both methods had a crystal structure of anatase, and the temperature of phase transformation into rutile was 90$0^{\circ}C$. The minimum crystal size of $TiO_2$ for the highest photocatalytic activity was found to be about 10nm.

Iron Phosphate Coating on Pyrite Surface for Reduction of Acid Rock Drainage (산성배수 발생저감을 위한 황철석 표면의 철인산염 피막형성 연구)

  • Acid drainage occurs when sulfide minerals are exposed to an oxidizing environment. The objective of this study was to examine the optimum condition for creating a phosphate coating on standard pyrite surfaces for reduction of pyrite oxidation. The solution of $10^{-2}M\;KH_2PO_4,\;10^{-2}M\;H_2O_2$ was identified as the best phosphate coating agent for the reduction of pyrite oxidation. The formation of an iron phosphate coating on pyrite surfaces was confirmed with ore microscope and scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The temperature did not significantly affect the formation of phosphate coating on the surface of pyrite. However, the phosphate coating was less stable at higher temperature than at lower temperature. The phosphate coating was quitely stable at wide range of pH and $H_2O_2$ concentration. The less than $3.4\%$ of phosphate was dissolved at pH 2.79 and 10.64 and less than $1.0\%$ of phosphate was dissolved at 0.1M $H_2O_2$. On the basis of these results, the phosphate coating can effectively reduce the negative environmental impact of acid rock drainage.

  • In this study, the effect of surface coating on iron-sulfide mineral for preventing the product acid mine drainage(AMD) was progressed by oxidation process of sulfide minerals abandoned mine Area. Three abandoned mines, Yongdong coal mine, Sil Lim mine, and Il Koang mine were selected as a sulfide mineral resource due to higher contamination rate. Six coating agents, apatite, limestone, mangnite, dolomite, bentonite, and cement were used for preventing the AMD with $H_2O_2$ and NaClO as a oxidizing agent helping for oxidizing process on sulfide minerals. Experimental results showed that sulfide mineral surface was coated effectively. Cement has a higher ability of preventing AMD when the ratio of cement to mineralis 1:1 and experimental condition is maintaining 4Days.

  • A large number of lava tubes in southwestern idaho contain some extremely impressive secondary mineral deposits. Gypsum and mirabilite can be found coating entire lava formation and in some cases entire rooms, thenardite and cristobolite can also be found throughout idaho's lava tubes, although in smaller individual concentrations. To a lesser degree iron and copper-based deposits have been found. On rare occasions and in very small quantities calcium carbonate deposits have been found.(omitted)

Oil Leakage Characteristics of Asphalt Mastic Waterproofing Membrane Coating According to Particle Size and Content of Organic/Mineral Extender (유·무기질 체질안료 입도 및 함량에 따른 아스팔트 매스틱 도막방수재의 누유 특성)

  • In this study, the purpose of this study was to quantitatively grasp the specific correlation between the raw material and the occurrence of leakage by analyzing the characteristics of leakage by adjusting the type and content of the raw material constituting the asphalt mastic coating waterproofing material. To this end, two raw materials, CA (calcium carbonate) and ASE (anti-sedimentation), which are organic and mineral extender for asphalt mastic waterproofing membrane coating, were selected. viscosity and oil leakage stability (20 ℃, 40 ℃) was evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, the oil leakage stability and viscosity were inversely proportional to the CA average particle size, and it was quantitatively proven that a correlation in proportion to the ASE content was established. The results of this study are expected to be used as core data for basic mixing design in the future mixing studies to improve leakage of asphalt mastic waterproofing membrane coating.

  • Intumescent inorganic and organic coatings which dintr one from the other by the type of gas formers and the mechanisms of foam formation have been obtained and investigated. Inorganic intumescent coatings are the compositions based on water glass and mineral additives with different dispersity. Mineral additives contain adsorbed and absorbed water and carbonates which are destructed with the carbon dioxide and water evolution during the flame action on coating. The decreasing of mineral additives particle sizes under the mechanical milling with the fraction precipitation promotes the foam coke formation with less defects. Here the main structure of comparing compositions does not change. In organic coatings based on epoxy-polymers the polyammonium phosphate additive is used. It is the cabonization catalyst and the foam agent. The polyammonium phosphate of various dispersity employed is uniformly distributed on the polymeric matrix. The decreasing of the particle sizes leads to the increasing of the fire resistant properties of the intumescent coa-ting. The fire resistant analysis of the coating during more than an hour: the coating back side the temperature on plastic or wooden materials does not exceed 423K, and on metal-573K.

Preparation and Optical Properties of Ag-Coated Cu Powder by Dropping Method of Coating Agent (피복제 적하법에 의한 Ag 피복 Cu 미립자의 제조 및 광학적 특성)

  • Ag-coated Cu particles were prepared by dropping method of coating agent and were evaluated by scanning electron microscope and color difference meter. The shape of Cu particles having obvious crystal plan and edge was changed spherically according to the increase of Ag coating amount. When the Ag coating amount was 50 wt% to Cu particles, the whiteness of Ag-coated Cu particles was almost similar to that of pure Ag particles. Adding $NH_4$OH in reductant solution could increase effectively the whiteness of the Ag-coated particles. The Ag-coated particles having the highest whiteness was obtained when the content of hydrazine in reductant solution was 0.48 M.
