  • This study is a case study of the Ukrainian military's asymmetric combat performance method. The composition of this study is as follows. First, it presented the background for the outbreak of war in the macroscopic framework of Russia-Ukraine. Second, the Ukraine-Russia war, which broke out in February 2022, presented the justification for the study, that is, the direction of the Ukrainian military's asymmetric combat performance in terms of microscopic aspects of the study, and detailed analysis of precision strikes using commercial drones and advanced sensors. Finally, we covered in-depth the case of Ukrainian troops who attempted to attack Russian tanks using semi-automatic laser homing technology. Therefore, the Korean military organization also suggested the justification for gradually introducing and utilizing the system for the Ukrainian military's asymmetric combat performance method, and related follow-up studies should be actively conducted following this study.

  • Development of science technology, computer network and software technology has not only changed various areas of the society, but also brought rapid change in the condition and the way of performing war. Historical lessons learned from the war in Iraq tells that military capabilities corresponding to the new paradigms of war needs to be assured in order to preserve national interest and take victory in future warfare. Thus, the performance in the latest war in Iraq, the estimated performance in future war and the performance of war in the Korean Peninsula has been put together and analyzed to indicate the direction our force should be built and the structure to be improved. Under all circumstances and threats the military must defend our nation and territory. When war breaks out the military must perform it's basic duty to end war by decisive operations. As the saying is "To preserve peace, prepare for war," continuous increase of military strength and improvement of military structure corresponding to the change of national security environment and weapon system is necessary.

  • This study aims to empirically analyze the effects of leadership level and toxic leadership on leadership performance results among male and female military leaders in the Army, and to verify whether the leader's gender has a moderating effect in this process. Additionally, by comparing and analyzing the leadership level, toxic leadership, and leadership performance results of female military leaders by position, this study seeks to examine the characteristics of female military leadership according to position. The research model was established with leadership level and toxic leadership as independent variables, leadership performance results as the dependent variable, and the leader's gender as a moderating variable. Data were collected through a survey of 216 male and female officers serving in the positions of platoon leader, company commander, and battalion commander in the Army. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that leadership level had a significant positive effect on leadership performance results, while toxic leadership had a significant negative effect. The leader's gender moderated the relationship between leadership level and leadership performance results, with female leaders receiving lower evaluations than male leaders at the same level of leadership competency. Gender also moderated the relationship between toxic leadership and leadership performance results, with female leaders exhibiting the same level of toxic leadership receiving lower performance evaluations than male leaders. In the comparative analysis of female military leadership characteristics by position, the leadership level of the platoon leader and company commander groups was not significantly different from that of male soldiers, but the battalion commander group showed slightly lower leadership competency compared to male soldiers. Based on these results, this study suggests ways to improve the leadership level of female military leaders, reduce toxic leadership, and prepare support measures to strengthen the leadership competency of female military officers at the battalion commander level and above from policy, institutional, and educational perspectives.

  • This paper deals with the application of commercial mobile communication system for improvement of the military mobile wireless communication systems. Currently, commercial mobile communication systems are rapidly growing from first and second Generation system to third and forth Generation system, which can provide multimedia service of high speed and high capacity(e.g., IMT-2000). If we adapt these emerging commercial technology for the military communication, the military will have many benefits in terms of cost saving, early operational deployment and performance. And it is possible to support the communication necessary in the future warfield operational environment. Therefore, we analyzed differences between commercial systems and military systems, and adaptability in terms of security, survivability and performance. Finally, we proposed a stepwise utilization scheme to improve the military mobile wireless communication

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the service needs and role awareness of military hospital coordinator to provide basic data for establishing the role of military hospital coordinator and facilitating efficient, systematic work performance. Questionnaires were used to survey military hospital out patients for 25 days from July 13 to August 11. 2011. The subjects were 616 outpatients. Research results, the recognition of higher awareness of the military hospital coordinator to perform the work to know if the work performed was low awareness of the present in the generally. High service needs was generally presented among outpatients that perceived the work performed by the military hospital coordinator, and most of the work preformed in the service needs was higher, showed a high needs. The results of this study showed that military hospital outpatients presented low role awareness but high level of service needs for military hospital coordinator. Establish roles of military hospital coordinator and provide for systematic performance if so can military hospital will contribute to improving service satisfaction.

  • This article examines how to improve military library services by evaluating management and performance of 160 Korean military libraries in 2011. Results indicated that the average performance rate in entire areas was 59.4%. The 'facility' area and 'inter-library cooperation' area showed high performance rates (79.2% and 71.0% respectively). On the other hand, the 'strategic management plan' area and 'support' area showed relatively low performance rates (28.3% and 33.0% respectively). Results concluded that a strong commitment for strategic planning and execution by the authorities is required to enhance military library services in the future. Also, the implications of annual evaluation on military libraries should be taken accounted for improvement plans and ultimately lead to the establishment of revitalization policies for military library services.

  • In this paper, we have verified the performance of ballistic resistance material on wet condition. Considering Korea terrain, soldiers may face many rivers and streams. However, bullet-proof jacket has no waterproofing and there's no water-proof standard in Military. Wearing wet bullet-proof jacket, soldiers can't be protected properly because of the decrement of jacket. Thus, we measure the performance of existing material on wet condition and analyze failure mechanism in order to indicate factors to improve bullet-proof jacket.

  • Military facilities with masonry have a great portion in the whole military facilities. But lots of them have been used for more than 20 years, the degree of deterioration of the facilities are serious. Futhermore, as insufficient budget for the facilities maintenance and poor maintenance, the performance of the aged masonry facilities have continually decreased. We suggest a structural performance assessment criteria for the military facility through literature review, interview with experts and questionnaire. The major assessment factors for the structural performance include the inclining and sinking degree of the facilities, durability of materials and resisting force of the structural members.

  • In this paper, a performance comparison of dynamic TDMA and fixed TDMA in tactical data link system is conducted. The performance metric include: delay, queue size and system throughput. To perform comparison of two TDMA schemes, we adopt the modified M/D/1 queueing model. Computer simulation is also performed to verify conducted analytical results.

  • To build an information oriented armed forces, the Korean military telecommunication networks adopt TCP/IP standard communication infrastructures based on ATM packet switched networks. Utilizing this network infrastructure, the Korean armed forces also applies to the areas of battleship management for efficient operation command controls and resource management for efficient resource allocations. In this military communication networks, it is essential to determine the least cost network topology under equal performance and reliability constraints. Basically, this type of communication network design problem is known in the literature as an NP Hard problem. As the number of network node increases, it is very hard to obtain an optimal solution in polynomial time. Therefore, it is reasonable to use a heuristic algorithm which provides a good solution with minimal computational efforts. In this study, we developed a simulated annealing based heuristic algorithm which can be utilized for the design of military communication networks. The developed algorithm provides a good packet switched network topology which satisfies a given set of performance and reliability constraints with reasonable computation times.
