  • The life of an equipment depends upon its operating characteristics and physical environment factors. This paper presents the economic life length of 2 1/2 ton truck considering the operation terrains. For this specific research, the operation terrains are categorized into seacoast area, mountain area and plain area. To compute the life length, the method of equivalent annual cost is employed. The sample vehicles from each corresponding area are randomly selected from those vehicles whose ages exceed 9 years. This research finds the following results : (1) The life length operated at seacoast area is 9.75 years, (2) The life length operated at mountain area is 11.25 years, (3) The life length operated at plain area is 14 years. This research argues that the key factor such as characteristics of operating enviroment for allocation of operating and maintaining cost should be considered.

  • This paper describes the general considerations and operational applications of aircraft night vision goggle(NVG). The operators should recognize the NVG characteristics, natural night light sources and interoperability between them. And they have to keep attention to the method to take steps to avoid misperceptions, illusions during flight, and the negative impact on the effectiveness and safety of the mission. The considerations based on the interoperability between NVG and night operation suggest the evaluation items of NVG field test and flight test.

  • Due to its unmanned feature and some of being matured underwater technologies, UUV(Unmanned Undersea Vehicle) is increasingly considered as a utility player in today's battle-field. The operational benefit of submarine-based UUV operation could be enormous yet the integration challenges are significant, particularly for most of small conventionally-powered submarines. In this paper, we consider UUV operational methodology via the conventional submarine's torpedo tube. Two previous attempts having been done to retrieve the UUV through torpedo tube are reviewed, and their pros and cons are also analyzed. Then, an alternative option is proposed for UUV operation via torpedo tube. In addition, some of practical challenges are also discussed in the paper.

  • This paper deals with an estimation method of the airfield capacity for the airlift operation. In the US Air Force, airfield capacities has been estimated using MOG(Maximum -On-the-Ground) concept, which is known to having several weaknesses. Recently, RAND suggests a personal-computer- based model called the Airfield Capacity Estimator(ACE), which is a more advanced and realistic technique compared to the MOG. This paper attempts to modify the ACE appropriate to the Korean airlift operation. While ACE is developed on the basis of strategic mobilization, Korean airlift operation is done on the tactical basis. A designed mdel is tested with simulation technique.

  • With the gradual increase in the ROK naval power, it is an undeniable fact that the time of operation in the ice-infested area will be necessary in the near future. Recently, cases of ice formation around Korean waters in wintertime have been frequently reported. However, in the case of the ROK naval vessels to date, it is a fact that the ice-strengthened perspective has not been considered from the design stage. In this study, the capability of operation in the ice-infested area of the ROK naval vessels, which did not take into account the ice-strengthened design, was reviewed through the evaluation of the vessel's structural integrity in accordance with the sea ice conditions.

  • During wartime, the operation of engineering equipment plays a pivotal role in bolstering the combat prowess of military units. To fully harness this combat potential, it is imperative to provide efficient support precisely when and where it is needed most. While previous research has predominantly focused on optimizing equipment combinations to expedite individual mission performance, our model considers routing challenges encompassing multiple missions and temporal constraints. We implement a comprehensive analysis of potential wartime missions and developed a routing model for the operation of engineering equipment that takes into account multiple missions and their respective time windows of required start and completion time. Our approach focused on two primary objectives: maximizing overall capability and minimizing mission duration, all while adhering to a diverse set of constraints, including mission requirements, equipment availability, geographical locations, and time constraints.

  • Recently, instead of technical cyber operations that directly attack the target information system by using cyber attack techniques, social engineering techniques that indirectly invade the system by exploiting the vulnerabilities of persons who manage the system are being watched. Despite this trend, there is a lot of confusion because there is no clear concept about the relationship between cyber operations and social engineering techniques. Therefore, this paper aims at establishing a clear concept of a social engineering cyber operation, helping future researchers in this literature.

  • Electronic equipment mounted on military vehicles is exposed to external shocks and vibrations. This causes problems in tactical operation and also causes cost loss in equipment maintenance. Therefore, to optimize the test standards for military vehicles with vibration, dynamic characteristics should be analyzed and standardized through actual driving tests. In this paper, the internal structure of 2.5tons military vehicle is designed in the form of a drawer and lathe, and the dynamic characteristics are identified by experiment, and the design is proposed.

  • On February 12, 2019, the U.S. Department of Defense newly established and announced the "Defense AI Strategy" to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for military purposes. As China and Russia invested heavily in AI for military purposes, the U.S. was concerned that it could eventually lose its advantage in AI technology to China and Russia. In response, China and Russia, which are hostile countries, and especially China, are speeding up the development of new military theories related to the overall construction and operation of the Chinese military based on AI. With the rapid development of AI technology, major advanced countries such as the U.S. and China are actively researching the application of AI technology, but most existing studies do not address the special topic of defense. Fortunately, the "Future Defense 2030 Technology Strategy" classified AI technology fields from a defense perspective and analyzed advanced overseas cases to present a roadmap in detail, but it has limitations in comparing private technology-oriented benchmarking and AI technology's maturity level. Therefore, this study tried to overcome the limitations of the "Future Defense 2030 Technology Strategy" by comparing and analyzing Chinese and U.S. military research cases and evaluating the maturity level of military use of AI technology, not AI technology itself.
