  • The potentiometric end-point of redox titrations determined by nulling the second derivative of the titration curve by numerical differentiation method is analyzed by using an electronic digital computer. The error involved in the method is shown to be dependent on the location of the equivalence point in the titrant addition increment that encompasses the latter. The error increases as the equivalence point moves away from the mid-point of the increment toward a maximum value that is as great as a half of the increment. Therefore, when the numerical differentiation method is used to null the second derivative, the end-point should be compared with the steepest point of the titration curve or diluted titrant should be used in the vicinity of the end-point.

Physics Education for the Learning-disabled by the Direct Instruction (직접교수법에 의한 기초공학(물리학)에서 학습장애자 교육)

  • The Direct Instruction (DI) was applied to the learning-disabled in the basic engineering education (especially, physics education). The DI is specified as an educational method in which the instructor strongly controls during the whole process of the entire course. The tests of understanding, reasoning, memory, and problem-solving speed showed that 20 students (20%) out of random 100 students are learning-disabled. The average points of mid-term and final exams were 53.7% and 61.0% respectively for a certain 41-students class. However, in this class, for the lower point students who obtained less than 50% points, the average points of mid-term and final exams were 29.8% and 28.2% respectively, which showed decreased. From this lower point group, the 8 students (20% students of 41 students) were selected as the learning-disabled. With additional DI studies provided, the average points of mid-term and final exams for the learning-disabled were 18.9% and 25.5% respectively, which showed 6.6% increase that means the DI for the learning-disabled was effective.

Modernity in the Korean Diet Considering the Films during the Japanese Colonial Period (일제강점기 영화로 본 근대성 양상 고찰 - 음식문화를 중심으로 -)

  • Since the late 19 century, the Choseon dynasty forcibly opened the door to western countries, including Japan. In addition, cultural propagation called 'modernity' caused subtle changes in dietary life. Based on the theory of colonial dual society, this study examined the dietary modernity in Kyungsung (mid 1930s~early 1940s) when 50 years had passed since the Open-Door policy. Three films, (1934), (1936) and (1941) (those made in 1930s~1940s) were analyzed. Twenty six scenes [14 scenes from , five scenes from , and seven scenes from ] related to the dietary life from films were chosen and classified according three criteria (degree of modernization, main influential countries, and benefit groups from modernization). The degree of modernization of all films was more than 80%. The average proportion of the countries that affected modernization were western (35%), western-Japan (28%) and Japan (20%). Approximately 33, 53 and 14% of the upper, middle, lower classes, respectively, benefited from diet modernization. The main places where modernized dietary culture could be enjoyed were cafes, western restaurants, tea rooms, and hotels. The main food or beverages that were considered as modernized dietary culture were liquor (especially beer), coffee, and western meals. People in Kyungsung in the mid 1930s~early 1940s experienced modernity in dietary life differently according to the social classes and these culture changes were generally accepted as a symbol of modernity.

For T ∈ 𝓛(nE), we define Norm(T) = {(x1, . . . , xn) ∈ En : (x1, . . . , xn) is a norming point of T}. Norm(T) is called the norming set of T. Let $0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}{\frac{{\pi}}{4}}$ and ${\ell}^2_{{\infty},{\theta}}={\mathbb{R}}^2$ with the rotated supremum norm $${\parallel}(x,y){\parallel}_{({\infty},{\theta})}={\max}\{{\mid}x\;cos\;{\theta}+y\;sin\;{\theta}{\mid},\;{\mid}x\;sin\;{\theta}-y\;cos\;{\theta}|\}$$. In this paper, we characterize the norming set of T ∈ 𝓛(n2(∞,θ)). Using this result, we completely describe the norming set of T ∈ 𝓛s(n2(∞,θ)) for n = 3, 4, 5, where 𝓛s(n2(∞,θ)) denotes the space of all continuous symmetric n-linear forms on ℓ2(∞,θ). We generalizes the results from [9] for n = 3 and ${\theta}={\frac{{\pi}}{4}}$.

Comparisons of the Physicochemical Characteristics of Korean Traditional Soy Sauce with Varying Soybean Seeding Periods and Regions of Production (원료콩의 파종시기와 산지에 따른 재래식 간장의 품질 특성 비교)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the physicochemical properties of Korean traditional soy sauces made with soybeans sown in different producing regions(Hadong, Paju) and in different seeding periods(late-May, mid-June, late-June). The total acidity, salt content, chromaticity, browning, amino nitrogen content and the reducing sugar content of the soy sauce samples were compared. It was found that the total acidity level and the amino nitrogen contents were significantly lower in the soy sauce made with mid-June soybeans, and that these properties increased as the sauce aged. Salt content increased with the aging period regardless of the region of production. The reducing sugar content of Paju soy sauce was the highest in late -June, and for the Hadong region, highest in late-May. The sauce made with Hadong soy beans showed an increase in reducing sugar content positively correlated with the aging period. Reducing sugar content in the samples of Paju soy sauce decreased up to 60 days of aging, but increased after this point. In Paju soy sauce, the brightness(L value) was significantly higher in mid-June, and the Hadong variant it was higher in late -May. The yellowness(b value) at the beginning of the aging process was high in late -June for Hadong soy sauce, but overall it was higher in the mid-June period. The more matured soy sauce samples were darker and showed both higher a and b values. The browning was the lowest in the mid -June regardless of the regions and it increased with the aging period regardless of the production regions. The salt, amino nitrogen contents, browning and yellowness showed significant correlations among the samples. In conclusion, the seeding period of soy beans may affect the characteristics of produced soy sauce alongside the aging conditions.

Selection of Priority Management Target Tributary for Effective Watershed Management in Nam-River Mid-watershed (남강 중권역의 효율적인 유역관리를 위한 중점관리 대상지류 선정)

  • The major 24 tributaries in Nam-River mid-watershed were monitored for discharge and water quality in order to understand the characteristics of the watershed and to select the tributary catchment for improving water quality. According to the analytical results of discharge and water quality monitoring data of 24 tributaries, the mean value of discharge below $0.1m^3/s$ was 62.5% among the monitored tributaries and it mostly exceeded the water quality standards of Nam-river mid-watershed ($BOD_5$ = 3 mg/L, T-P = 0.1 mg/L over). According to the stream grouping method and the water quality delivery load density ($kg/day/km^2$) based on the results of tributary discharge and water quality monitoring, the tributary watersheds for improving the water quality were selected. In the Nam-River mid-watershed, tributaries in the GaJwaCheon, HaChonCheon catchment (Group D, $BOD_5$ = 3 mg/L over) and in the UirYeongCheon, SeokGyoCheon catchment (Group A, T-P = 0.1 mg/L over), which have a small flow (and/or large flow) and a high concentrations of water pollutants. The various water quality improving scheme for tributaries, in accordance with the reduction of potential point source pollution by living sewage and livestock wastewater, should be established and implemented.

Verbal Interaction in Paired Think-Aloud Problem Solving; Comparison of the Characteristics of Small Groups Based on Achievement (해결자·청취자 활동에서의 언어적 상호작용: 성취도에 의한 소집단별 특성 비교)

  • This study investigated the characteristics of verbal interactions of various small groups based on previous achievement in paired think-aloud problem solving. Two classes of a high school were assigned to the homogeneous and heterogeneous groups, and taught on chemistry. Students from homogeneous groups (high${\cdot}$high, mid?id) and heterogeneous groups (high${\cdot}$mid, high${\cdot}$low) were selected, and their algorithmic problem solving on chemical equation and stoichiometry were audio/video taped. In high${\cdot}$high group, solver's 'require agreement' and listener 'agree' were frequently exhibited. On the other hands, listener's 'point out' and solver's 'modify' were frequently exhibited in mid${\cdot}$mid group, which was also observed in the heterogeneous groups (high${\cdot}$mid, high${\cdot}$low). Many verbal interactions were analyzed to be in symmetrical type. In this type, 'require agreement-agree' of high${\cdot}$high group was the most frequent. 'problem solving-agree' of high${\cdot}$high group was the most frequent in the solver-dominant type, while 'point out-modify' of high${\cdot}$low group in the listener-dominant type. The verbal behaviors related to the solving stage were frequently observed, but there were few related to the reviewing stage.

THE 3.3 MICRON PAH EMISSION OF THE MID-INFRARED EXCESS GALAXIES DISCOVERED BY THE AKARI MID-INFRARED ALL-SKY SURVEY

  • We investigate the relation between star formation activity and PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ emission. Our targets are mid-infrared-excess galaxies selected from the AKARI all-sky survey point source catalog. We performed AKARI near-infrared spectroscopy for them. As a result, we obtained $2.5-5{\mu}m$spectra of 79 galaxies, and selected 35 star-forming galaxies out of them. Comparing the PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ luminosities with the infrared luminosities, we find a linear correlation between them. However, by adding the results from literatures for luminous infrared galaxies and ultra-luminous infrared galaxies that are more luminous than our sample, the ratio of the PAH to the infrared luminosity is found to decrease towards the luminous end.

A SOURCE EXTRACTION METHOD FOR THE AKARI MID-IR FAINT SOURCE CATALOGUE

  • We plan to produce a faint source catalogue from the AKARI mid-infrared (IR) all-sky diffuse maps. In the publicly-available AKARI mid-IR point source catalogue (PSC), sources were extracted from single-scan images, and confirmed by using the other scan images. By stacking multiple scan images, we can detect fainter sources which are not listed in the PSC. We optimized the source extraction process using a $6^{\circ}{\times}6^{\circ}C$ area around the star-forming region, Cepheus B. Then, we divided the all-sky data into three seasonal images, and checked the positions and the fluxes of the detected sources on the images. As a result, our new source extraction method works well; 90% of the sources are also identified in the WISE catalogue. In this method, we obtain the detection limit twice deeper than that of the PSC. The number of sources increases by a factor of 2, as compared with the PSC.
