Roast semen zizyphi spinosae showed superior pharmacological efficacy than raw semen zizyphi spinosae. Also, hot water extraction method showed superior pharmacological efficacy than low temperature extraction method(UMPM) that uses ultrasonic waves and microwaves. In short, it was shown that herbal medicine's extraction method needs to maximize medicinal effects by trying optimum extraction methods according to efficacy by considering characteristics of each herbal medicine. Together, there's also the need for in-depth studies on water-soluble ingredients of semen zizyphi spinosae that may be extracted through full hot water extraction method.

  • The use of electromagnetic energy and non-equilibrium plasma for enhancing ignition and combustion stability is receiving increased attention recently. The conventional technologies have adapted the electrical devices to make the electromagnetic field, which resulted in various safety issues such as high-maintenance, additional high-cost system, electric shock and explosion. Therefore, an electrodeless microwave technology has an advantage for economic and reliability compared with conventional one because of no oxidation. However, the application of microwave has been still limited because of lack of interaction mechanism between flame and microwave. In this study, an experiment was performed with jet diffusion flames induced by microwaves to clarify the effect of microwave on the combustion stability and pollutant emissions. The results show that microwave induced flames enhanced the flame stability and blowout limit because of abundance of radical pool. However, NOx emission was increased monotonically with microwave intensity except 0.2 kW, and soot emission was reduced at the post flame region.

  • Thin film technologies for fabricating SQUIDs involve etching and deposition procedures with the proper substrate materials and $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-d}$ (YBCO) as the high $T_c$ superconductor. YBCO were prepared on various substrates of MgO, $SrTiO_3$, and $LaAlO_3$ by using off-axis magnetron sputtering methods and annealing in-situ. The parameters of film fabrication processes had been optimized to yield good quality films in terms of the critical temperature $T_c$ and the critical current density $J_c$. The optimized processes yielded $T_C$>90K along with $J_c$>$10_6A$$extrm{cm}^2$ at 77K and>$2\times10_7A/Cm^2$ at 5K. We fabricated step-edge type dc-SQUIDs and directly coupled magnetometers, producing step edges on MgO(100) substrates by etching with Ar-ion beam, depositing YBCO material on them, then patterning them by using ion-milling technique. Circuitizing washer-shape SQUIDs to possess a pair of step-edge junctions of 2-5$\mu$ line width with a high angle>$50^{\circ}C$ , we examined their I-V characteristics thoroughly and Shapiro steps clearly as we irradiate microwaves of 8-20 GHz frequency.

  • This study investigated an efficient method for the extraction of astaxanthin from the red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous. The extraction process comprised three steps: 1) cultivating the yeast; 2) treating the yeast culture suspension with microwaves to destroy the cell walls and microbodies; and 3) drying the yeast and extracting the astaxanthin pigment using ethanol, methanol, acetone, or a mixture of the three as the extraction solvent. Ultimately, various treatment tests were performed to determine the conditions for optimal pigment extraction, and the total carotenoid and astaxanthin contents were quantified. A frequency of 2,450 MHz, an output of 500 watts, and irradiation time of 60 s were the most optimum conditions for yeast cell wall destruction. Furthermore, optimal pigment extraction occurred when using a cell density of 10g/l at $30^{\circ}C$ over 24 h, with a 10% volume of ethanol.

  • It is said to be very difficult to maintain the aids to navigation such as buoys end lighthouses due to their geographical characteristics. This paper, as a part task of the construction of aids to navigation control center, describes the method to make the module for remote-controlling lighthouses and buoys. We become to be able nor only to get informations such as the condition of lights and batteries, but also to control remotely the aids to navigation by using microwaves so as to maintain them in good condition.

  • The terahertz wave (THz wave) is a band between infrared and microwaves and is defined as an electromagnetic wave having a frequency of 0.1 to 10 THz band. THz waves have the property of transmitting nonpolar materials, which the visible light cannot be transmitted, such as ceramics, plastics, and paper; and the photon energy is low, such as several meV. For this reason, non-destructive testing equipment based on THz imaging technology can be applied to the industrial field. Recently, THz imaging technology was applied in wide industrial fields, such as automobiles, batteries, food, medical, and security, and being actively studied. In this paper, we describe the research trends of terahertz imaging technology and experimental results. Furthermore, we summarize the recent commercialized terahertz camera. Finally, we present the research results in the field of the human security scanner system.

  • Various techniques for noninvasively focus microwave energy on lesions have been proposed for thermotherapy. To focus the microwave energy on the lesion, a focusing parameter, which is referred to as the magnitude and phase of microwaves radiated from an external array antenna, is very important. Although the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD)-based time-reversal (TR) focusing algorithm is widely used, it has a long processing time if the focusing target position changes or if optimization is needed. We propose a technique to obtain multistatic data (MSD) based on Green's function and use it to derive the focusing parameters. Computer simulations were used to evaluate the electric fields inside the object using the FDTD method and Green's function as well as to compare the focusing parameters using FDTD- and MSD-based TR focusing algorithms. Regardless of the use of Green's function, the processing time of MSD-based TR focusing algorithms reduces to approximately 1/2 or 1/590 compared with the FDTD-based algorithm. In addition, we optimize the focusing parameters to eliminate hotspots, which are unnecessary focusing positions, by adding phase-reversed electric fields and confirm hotspot suppression through simulations.

  • Background: Long-haul truck drivers (LHTD) experience disproportionately greater chronic disease risk, which may be influenced by both occupational and lifestyle factors. This study aimed to explore the multilevel factors associated with LHTD's diet and physical activity (PA). Methods: Thirty in-depth interviews were conducted with LHTD in the Southern California border region. Interview questions captured occupational and lifestyle factors relating to PA and diet at multiple levels and were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Emergent themes relating to both diet and PA included time constraints, attitudes and perceived beliefs, and accessibility of environments to engage in PA and healthy eating. Themes specific to PA were weather conditions and flatbed job duties. Themes specific to diet included access to refrigerators/microwaves and social interactions. Conclusion: Findings from this study can inform the development of tailored, multi-level interventions to encourage PA and healthy dietary behaviors among LHTD.
