An automatic noise detection system is developed to sense abnormal noises in operating a microwave electronic range. A noise detection method is presented which accounts for the effects of backgound and dynamic noises of the range. A recursive formula used as a noise estimator is a special case of the discrete-time Kalman filter in stochastic processes. Noise levels were measured using a noise acquisition processor in a closed room free of background noise, and detected signals were processes using a microcomputer. The results obtaines showed that the fault detection system should be fast in response to the data acquired and should be high in accuracy and reliability.

Frequency spectra of the complex permittivity of 2-methoxyethanol (2-ME) with water, ethanol, dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and N,N-dimethylacatamide (DMA) have been determined over the frequency range of 10 MHz to 20 GHz at 25 $^{\circ}C$, using the Time domain reflectometry method, for 11 concentrations for each system. The static dielectric constant, dielectric constant at microwave frequency, relaxation time, excess dielectric parameters, and Kirkwood correlation factor have been determined. The relaxation in these systems within the frequency range can be described by a single relaxation time constant, using the Debye model. The parameters show a systematic change with the concentration.
The effect of microwave irradiation on wood bending was investigated in this study. The specimens irradiated with microwave were bent around a form by using pedestal-steel and clamps. The specimens, korea red pine (Pinus densiflora), for this test were water-soaked for 78 hours. Saturated specimens were boiled in water for an hour. The size of specimens was 350mm(L) by 20mm(R) by 10mm(T). These specimens were heated by microwave of 2,450MHz. The most suitable time for microwave irradiation seems to range from 60 to 90 seconds. Wood moisture content decreased remarkably with the increase of irradiation time. When a softened wood piece is bent, its convex side was stretched while the concave side was compressed. It can be compressed considerably, but stretched very little. Therefore the failure will be governed by the tensile breaking strain and occur mainly on the convex face. So we obtained results from three different bending process methods as follows : 1) When bending with a pedestal-steel, convex face had not tensile breakings, but concave face had compression fails. 2) When bending with a clamp, bending time increased more than pedestal-steel and occurred tensile breaking. 3) Bending with a pedestal-steel and a clamp was found to be the most excellent operation method in this study.
Addition of salts or their mixtures and microwave heating were studies for their effects on Kakdugi fermentation. The Kakdugi, a Korean fermented Chinese radish, were prepared by salting in 15% NaCl solution and fermented at $25^{\circ}C$. From the results, a first order reaction relationship was found between salt permeated into the radish and time during brining in $5{\sim}10%$ NaCl solution. Addition of 0.05M KCl into 15% NaCl brining solution or microwave heating of salted radish for 3 minutes showed a little decreasing effect on Kakdugi fermentation rate while beating for 1 or 2 minuted resulted a rather increase. When three different salt mixtures in the concentration range of $0.001{\sim}0.01\;M$ were added into half fermented Kakdugi(appr. pH 4.4), the fermentation was greatly controlled based on pH change. Among the salt mixtures, mixture III$(Na_2HPO_4,\;Na_2PO_4,\;NaNO_2,\;Ca\;EDTA,\;Sod.\;citrate)$ showed a most significant effect where the time required to reach pH 4.0 after addition was extended by more than 6 folds when it was compared to the control method.
Quantitative analytical condition for arsenic in plastic materials by the flow injection-hydride generation-inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry was studied. The plastic samples were dissolved by wet-acid digestion method and microwave-acid digestion method. The reproducibility and accuracy in this method was verified using of certified reference materials(CRMs) CRM-EC680k and CRM-EC681k. The analyical results agrees with certified value within the range of uncertainty. The results of CRM-EC680k wer 4.1~4.3 mg/kg (certified value $4.1{\pm}0.5$ mg/kg), and the results of CRM-EC681k were 28.9~30.6 mg/kg (certified value $29.1{\pm}1.8$ mg/kg).
The use of microwave-assisted extraction and an acid-base clean-up process to determine the amount of methylmercury (MeHg) in marine products was suggested in order to improve the complicated sample preparation process. The optimal conditions for microwave-assisted extraction was developed by using a 10% NaCl solution as an extraction solution, setting the extraction temperature at $50^{\circ}C$, and holding for 15 minutes to extract the MeHg in marine products. A NaOH solution was selected as a clean-up substitute instead of L-cysteine solution. Overall, 670 samples of marine products were analyzed for total mercury (Hg). Detection levels were in the range of $0.0006{\sim}0.3801{\mu}g/kg$. MeHg was analyzed and compared using the current food code and the proposed method for 49 samples which contained above 0.1 mg/kg of Hg. Detection ranges of methylmercury followed by the Korea Food Code and the proposed method were $75.25(ND{\sim}516.93){\mu}g/kg$ and $142.07(100.14{\sim}244.55){\mu}g/kg$, respectively. The total analytical time of proposed method was reduced by more than 25% compared with the current food code method.
A simple, fast and reproducible quantitative analysis method for sugar concentration composed in oligosaccharide mixture was developed. Two glass TLC plates were prepared per sample. After dipping one plate into the copper bicinchoninate reagent and the other plate into 5% sulfuric acid solution, both plates were baked in microwave oven until sugar spots were developed or the surface temperature of TLC plate becomes 60 to 70 $^{\circ}C$. The corrective factor values [F value =(the value of total sugar concentration converted as glucose unit/the value of reducing sugar concentration converted as glucose unit)/(polymerization degree of sugar)] of different molecular weight sugars were determined. Within the concentration of 0.25∼1.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$ in each sample loaded, the fructose-F (corrective factor value of fructose) was 0.45, yet for the higher concentration (2.5∼7.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$) fructose-F was 1.0. In case of glucose, in the range of 0.5∼7.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$, glucose-F was same as fructose-F, 1.0. However, as the molecular weight of sugar was increased, the F values were decreased in both maltodextrin and isomaltodextrin oligosaccharides in 0.5∼7.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$ of each sample loaded. Interestingly, F values were equal for the same molecular weight sugars, although the structures were different from each other. Using F value of each sugar, we could determine and compare the exact total sugar concentration of different molecular weight maltooligosaccharide and isomaltooligosaccharide. We also could determine if the unknown sugar was a reducing or non-reducing compound by using optimized TLC with microwave oven method.

In this study, water content tests were performed on various fresh concretes subjected to different binder compostions to review the estimation errors and reliability of water content test methods. Micro-oven drying method, air-meter method, capacitance method and microwave penetration method were used to estimate water content of fresh concrete. Errors in water content estimation were analyzed by each test method. Regardless of the test method of water content, the estimation error was less than 5 %, and in the case of the test using mortar, the error in the estimation value was relatively large. In addition, based on the test results of water content of various concrete, the probability density function in which the estimation error for each test method becomes the population was analyzed. Water content test methods of fresh concrete which using concrete samples showed high estimate reliability of 97 % within the estimation error range of ± 10 kg/m3. On the other hand, the reliability of water content test method using mortar samples was lower.
In this paper, the permeability ($\mu_{\tau}'$, $\mu_{\tau}''$), dielectric constants($\varepsilon_{\tau}'$, $\varepsilon_{\tau}''$) and absorbption characteristics of Ferrite/Rubber 0-3 composites were investigated. The composite specimens were prepared by molding and curing the mixtures of matrix rubber and Ni-Zn ferrite powders which were synthesized by wet-direct method. The permeability ($u_{\tau}'$) of specimen was decreased from 2.58 to 0.7 in the range of 1$\sim$7(GHz) and kept constant 0.7$\sim$0.8 at higher than 7(GHz), the higher the frequency was, the less the valves of $u_{\tau}"$ was from 1.57 to 0.03. The optimum thickness of microwave absorber, utilizing the Smith chart, was 5(mm). The reflection loss shows over than 20(dB) from 5.5(GHz) to 7.5(GHz) at 5(mm) thickness and relative band width(B/fm) was about 30%.
