Microstrip Slow-Wave Open-Loop Resonator Filters with Reduced Size and Improved Stopband Characteristics

  • This paper presents a new class of microstrip slow-wave open-loop resonator filters with reduced size and improved stopband characteristics. A comprehensive treatment of both ends loaded with triangular and rectangular ends is described, leading to the invention of a microstrip slow-wave open-loop resonator. Two-resonator and four-resonator bandpass filters are designed at the operating frequency of about 2 GHz, and a bandwidth of 60 MHz. The size of the slow-wave open-loop resonator is optimized from the standpoint of the unloaded Q-factor. The filters are not only compact in size due to the slow-wave effect, but also have a wider upper stopband resulting from the dispersion effect. The filter designs of this type are described in details. The experimental results are demonstrated and discussed.

  • A method for synthesizing low-pass elliptic filters in a microstrip configuration is presented. The realization consists of the cascade connection of proper rectangular elements, each one corresponding to four reactive elements of the lumped-constant prototype. This allows an effictive control of parasitics and unwanted reactances. Which results in the possibility of realizing higher order filters with cutoff frequencies UP to X-band. Fifth and seventh order filters were fabricated on allumina substrates.

Koch Fractal Shape Microstrip Bandpass Filters on High Resistivity Silicon for the Suppression of the 2nd Harmonic

  • In this paper, the fractal shape is applied to microstrip band pass filters and integrated on a high-resistivity Si substrate to solve conventional $2^{nd}$ harmonic problem. Conventional microstrip coupled line filters are popular in RF front ends, because they can be easily fabricated and integrated with other RF components. However, they typically have large second harmonics that can cause unwanted interference in interested frequency bands. Without any additional filters, the proposed Koch shape filters have suppressed the $2^{nd}$ harmonics by about -40 dB, so they can be used in systems such as direct conversion receiver with stringent harmonic suppression requirements.

  • The recent development of high temperature superconducting epitaxial thin film offer great potential for planar passive microwave application such as ring resonator, filters, transmission lines, and antennas. This paper describes the fundamental properties of Microstrip Band-Pass Filter using HTS Thin Film and its application to microwave devices. In order to fabricate HTS microstrip multiple filters, We have grown laser ablated HTS thin films, patterned by photolithographic process and wet etching processes intro HTS microwave devices.

  • 교차결합 마이크로스트립 헤어핀 공진기 여파기는 통과대역과 저지대역에서 리플이 나타나며 이러한 리플들은 주파수 선택도와 삽입손실을 개선시킬 수 있다. 교차결합 여파기는 구조가 간단할 뿐 만 아니라 여러가지 형태로 구성할 수 있으므로 그에 따라 여파기 크기가 달라진다. 본 연구에서는 중심주파수가 1.8GHz이고 대역폭이 5.0%를 갖는 대역통과 여파기를 Ensemble 소프트웨어로 설계하였다. 제작된 여파기의 대역폭은 중심 주파수 1.8GHz에서 약 4.53%를 나타내었다.

Temperature Dependence of Microwave Properties of HTS Multipole Lowpass Filters Consisting of Microstrip Open-Stub Lines

  • Using high quality high-$T_c$ superconducting (HTS) YBCO thin films, we designed and fabricated 3-pole, 5-pole, and 7-pole lowpass filters consisting of microstrip transmission lines and open-stub lines. We measured the microwave response of the filters in the temperature range of T=85 K to 27 K. AtT=30 K, the observed inband insertion loss was 0.14dB and 0.02dB for the 5-pole and 7-pole filters, respectively. The cut-off frequency was 4.7 GHz for the 5-pole filter and 7.9GHz for the 7-pole filter. To the authors' knowledge, the measured inband insertion losses are the best values reported so far for the open-stub line type HTS multipole lowpass filters. The skirt property of the 5-pole filter showed a large improvement over that of the 3-pole filter as predicted from the simulation. We found that, to obtain a stable performance, the HTS multipole lowpass filters should be operated at the temperatures between 60% and 70% of $T_c$.

Miniatured Planar Bandpass Filter Using Coupled Metamaterial Resonators

  • In this article, new microstrip slow-wave bandpass filters using open loop resonator loaded with inter-digital capacitive fingers is proposed. The filter features not only compact in size, but also exhibits spurious stop-band rejection. Filters of this type with elliptic function and Chebyshev response are demonstrated. There is good agreement between experimental and full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation results.

  • In this paper a four-pole elliptic function bandpass filter is designed with two ground slots. A research of microstrip bandpass filters (BPF) using defected ground structures (DGS) is presented. DGS technique allows designs of tight couplings without the necessity of using very narrow coupling gaps. The simulator Sonnet is used to design the resonator and to calculate the coupling coefficient of the basic coupling structure. Compared to similar microstrip filters without defected ground structure, the simulated performances of these novel structures indicate some technological advantages.

  • A new design method of microstrip wide band VHF tunable bandpass filters using varacter diodes is presented. In the proposed filter both the input and output ports are coupled through capacitors, and an open micro-strip line is inserted between the coupled line in order to obtain the desired degree of coupling. The optimized filter responseses for the frequency range of 220-404MHz by TOUCH-STONE are compared with the measured ones.

저지대역의 중첩을 이용한 캐스캐이드 저역통과 여파기의 설계 (Design of Cascaded Lowpass Filter using Combination of Stopbands)

  • 본 논문에서는 급전면의 개방스터브와 접지면의 슬롯으로 구성되어 있는 초광대역의 저지대역을 갖는 저역통과 여파기 단위 구조를 캐스캐이드한 저역통과 여파기를 설계하였다. 초광대역의 저지대역을 갖는 저역통과 여파기 단위 구조는 급전면 개방 스터브에 의해 통과대역 특성을 결정하는 여파기 구조와 이러한 여파기의 dual 구조로 접지면 슬롯에 의해 통과대역 특성을 결정하는 여파기 구조가 있으며, 각각의 단위구조를 캐스캐이드함으로써 단일 여파기보다 더욱 향상된 저지대역과 skirt 특성을 얻을 수 있었다. 개방 스터브에 의해 통과대역 특성이 결정되는 구조와 dual 구조의 캐스캐이드 여파기는 각각 1.035㎓와 1.286㎓에서 -3㏈ 차단 주파수를 가지며 저지대역은 두 구조 모두 -20㏈ 기준으로 20㎓ 이상의 광대역을 이루었다.
