  • To study Antimicrobial activities of wool and silk dyed by Impatiens balsamina extract with concentraion and times of dyeing, its leaf and stem was extracted by water. Wool and silk dyed by extracts were their microbial inhibition activities against Staphylococcus aureus KCTC 1928. The more concentration, The more times of dyeing their microbial inhibition activities were increased. Fabrics dyed by leaf estracts were higher microbial inhibition activities than fabrics dyed by stem extracts. Silk dyed by the leaf and stem extracts were higher microbial inhibition activities than wool dyed by the leaf and stem extracts. the more dye uptake, microbial inhibition activities of dyed fabrics were incresed.

  • 본 논문은 미생물 성장 공정에서의 기질 저해에 관한 modified Haldane 모델의 이론적 유도를 다룬다. 생물학적 개념인 기질-수용체 복합체의 작동 메커니즘을 바탕으로 새로운 미생물학적 동특성인 N-중첩된 다중 기질 저해 모델의 유도와 더불어 일반화가 이론적으로 고찰되었는데, 이것은 효소 반응에서의 단순 기질 저해 메커니즘이 자연스럽게 확장된 것이다. 결과적으로, 본 기질 저해에 관한 modified Haldane 모델은 완전저해 기질농도라는 생물학적 상수를 포함하고 있는, 잘 설계된 4-파라메터 동특성 모델임이 밝혀졌다.

Microbial Inhibition and Migration of Nisin-incorporated Antimicrobial Polymer Coating on Paperboard

  • Two kinds of polymer coating (acrylic polymer and vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer) added with 5% nisin were fabricated on the paperboards and tested in their antimicrobial activity against Micrococcus flavus ATCC 10240 inoculated into water contacting the coating at $10^{\circ}C$. Vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer giving faster and higher nisin migration presented the greater reduction in the microbial count than the other coating, which endorsed that the migrated nisin is mainly responsible for the microbial inhibition or destruction. There was also a slight effect of the coating polymer itself in the microbial inhibition.

  • Ground garlic inhibited the cross-linking reaction of myosin and incorporation of monodansylcadaverine (MDC) in salted Alaska pollack surimi catalyzed by transglutaminase (TGase). The component responsible for the inhibition was a thermostable, low molecular weight compound. The component also inhibited microbial transglutaminase (MTGase). The inhibition by garlic was reversibly recovered upon addition of 2-mercaptoethanol. The inhibitory component was therefore hypothesized to contain sulfhydryl groups within its structure. Alliin itself did not inhibit the cross-linking reaction. However, the addition of alliin together with garlic increased the inhibition. This result suggested that compounds derived from alliin was responsible for the inhibition of TGase activity.

  • To find pharmacologically active hybrids among the inter-order protoplast fusants of Lentinula edodes and Ginoderma lucidam the antitumor test was performed and the fusant P22 was selected among them. The hot water and alkaline extracts from the cultured mycelia of P22 were purified and separated into four fractions by DEAE-cellulose anion exchange chromatography. When a dose of 20 mg/kg/day of each fractions was injected into ICR mice by i.p., the tumor inhibition ratio of Fr. IV against solid sarcoma 180 was the higher than any other fraction. Fr. IV was a protein-bound polysaccharide which was composed of 69. 12% polysacchafide and 9.76% protein and the molecular weight of Fr. IV was $6.7{\times}10^4$ dalton.

  • To find antitumor components in the hot water extract of the cultured mycelia of Ganoderma lucidum, protein-bound polysaccharides were purified and fractionated (Fr. I-V) by DEAE-cellulose ion exchange column chromatography and Sepbarose CL-4B gel filtration. When a dose of 20 mg/kg/day of each was, i.p., injected into ICR mice, the inhibition ratios against the solid form of sarcoma 180 were $64.2{\sim}75.8%$. The antitumor component was examined for immunological activity. It increased the amount of superoxide anion released by induced macrophages in peritoneal cavity to 1.8 times and the count of hemolytic plaque-forming cells (PFC) was increased to 4.4 times as compared with those of the control group. It contained 68.6% polysaccharide which consisted of mannose, glucose, galactose, fucose and xylose and 5.1% protein consisting of 17 amino acids. The contents of hexosamine were 0.78%. The molecular weight of Fr. V that showed the highest antitumor activity was $5.8{\times}10^4$ dalton by Sepharose CL-4B gel filtration. It was named lucidan.

한국 전통 된장의 구강미생물에 대한 항균효과 (Anti-microbial Activity of Korean Fermented Soybean Paste (Doen-jang) Against Oral Microbes)

  • This study was performed to investigate the anti-microbial activity of extract from Korean fermented soybean paste (doen-jang) against 16 types of oral microbes, and to determine the minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of the extract for three major microbes causing human oral diseases (Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Candida albicans). The extract was prepared using ethyl acetate and it was treated with the oral microbes at a concentration of 5.00 mg/ml (0.5%). The anti-microbial activity and MIC were measured using broth dilution method. Significant reduction of microbial activities of 16 types of oral microbes occurred when the soybean paste extract was added to the broth compared to the control (p<0.01), and striking inhibition (more than 99%) was observed in ten types. S. mutans, which causes dental caries, showed MIC at a concentration of 1.25 mg/ml for the extract. P. gingivalis, which causes adult periodontal disease, showed MIC at a concentration of 2.50 mg/ml for the extract. C. albicans, which causes denture stomatitis and angular stomatitis, showed MIC at a concentration of 20 mg/ml for the extract. These results indicate that ethyl acetate extract of doen-jang showed strong anti-microbial effect against 16 types of oral microbes, and the anti-microbial effect of the extract against oral microbes was stronger against bacteria than against fungi. The anti-microbial effect might be possibly enhanced by the fermentation of soybeans.

국산 프로폴리스의 항균활성 (Antimicrobial Activities of Korean Propolis)

  • 예천산 프로폴리스는 ethanol과 butanol 분획물이 S.typhimurium과 B. subtilis에 강한 항미생물 활성을 보였으며, 용매별로는 butanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform 분획물의 순이었다. C. utilis와 A. niger에는 모든 분획물이 항균활성을 나타내지 않았다. 농도별 균생육 억제 시험 결과, E. coli의 경우 예천산은 0.4mg/ml에서 초기에 균증식이 억제되었으며 영월은 0.25mg/ml에서 12시간 이후 균증식이 완전히 억제되었다. S. aureus의 경우, 영월과 예천산 프로폴리스가 0.25와 0.30mg/ml에서 완전히 균증식을 억제시켰다. P. aeruginosa의 경우, 예천산 프로폴리스는 0.20mg/ml에서 12시간 이후 균생장 억제를 보였으며, 영월산 프로폴리스는 0.20mg/ml에서 균생장이 완전히 억제되었다. S. typhimurium의 경우, 영월산은 0.20, 0.25mg/ml에서 균증식이 거의 억제되었으며, 예천산은 0.40mg/ml에서 균증식이 거의 억제되었다. MIC는 예천산 프로폴리스가 P. aeruginosa가 >0.2mg/ml로 가장 낮았고 S. aureus 0.25mg/ml, S. typhimurium > 0.35mg/ml 순이었다. 영월산은 P. aeruginosa가 0.15mg/ml로 가장 낮았으며 E. coli, S. aureus 및 S. typhimurium이 0.25mg/ml, B. subtilis 와 C. utilis는 각각 0.3, 0.4mg/ml 이었다.

초임계 자소자추출물의 항균효과와 바이오필름, 염증매개인자 생성 억제 효능 (The Effect of Anti-microbial and the Inhibitory Effect of Biofilm Formation and Inflammatory Factors Production of Perillae semen Supercritical Fluid Extracts)

  • 본 연구는 자소자 열수추출물과 압력은 일정하게 유지한 상태로 온도를 조절하여 추출한 3종의 자소자 초임계추출물에 대해 항산화력, 항균활성, biofilm 형성 억제능과 염증매개물질(nitric oxide), 염증성 사이토카인(interleukin-6, interleukin-8)의 생성 억제능을 평가하였다. 자소자 열수추출물과 비교하였을 때 자소자 초임계추출물이 항산화 효과는 떨어졌으나, Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus)에 대한 minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)이 월등히 낮은 것으로 확인되었고, biofilm 형성 억제능 또한 더 우수하였다. 염증매개물질과 염증성 사이토카인의 생성도 자소자 초임계추출물이 자소자 열수추출물에 비해 현저히 감소시킬 수 있었다. 따라서 우리는 초임계추출물중 가장 우수한 항균작용과 biofilm 형성 억제, 염증인자 생성 억제 효능을 보인 45℃로 추출한 자소자 초임계추출물이 아토피 피부염 환자의 가려움증과 경표피수분손실을 방지하기 위한 천연 기능성 소재로 적합함을 시사한다.

The extract showed higher anti-microbial activity against some anaerobic strains (P. gingivalis and P. intermieia). S. mutans, which causes dental caries, showed MIC at a concentration of 40 mg/ml for the soybean extract. P. gingivalis, which causes adult periodontal disease, showed MIC at a concentration of 20 mg/ml for the extract. C. albicans, which causes denture stomatitis and angular stomatitis, showed MIC at a concentration of 20 mg/ml for the extract. These results indicate that soybean extract showed anti-microbial effort against 9 types of oral microbes, and the anti-microbial effect of the extract against oral microbes was stronger against fungi than against bacteria. The anti-microbial mechanism of soybean extract against oral microbes should be investigated, and more research for clinical application is required at a level of actual intake.
