The behavior and influence of EPS on membrane fouling by changing of hydraulic retention time was investigated, using lab. scale submerged membrane bio-reactor, which was operated with gravitational filtration and fed supernatant of primary sedimentation in waste water treatment plant as influent. The membrane was adopted micro-filter of polyethylene hollow fiber. EPS was analysed as polysaccharides and protein especially, into soluble and bound EPS separately. The concentration of soluble EPS was increased at short HRT, then membrane fouling was rapidly progressed and flux was depressed. The most of EPS clogged membrane pore were polysaccharides, while protein was important parameter affected on membrane fouling because of it's more accumulating in the more term operating.

We have studied the effect of crystallization temperature, composition and film thickness, which are the fundamental processing parameters of lead zirconate titanate(PZT) thin film fabrication, in the respect of the piezoelectric properties by our pneumatic loading method(PLM). A great deal of research has been done in the field of characterization for piezoelectric thin films after the first report on the measurement for the piezoelectric coefficient of thin films in 1990. Even though the piezoelectric properties of thin films are very critical factors in the micro-electro mechanical system(MEMS) and thin film sensor devices, a few reports for the piezoelectric characterization are provided for the last decade unlikely the bulk piezoelectric devices. We have found that the piezoelectric properties of thin films are improved as the increase of crystallization temperature up to 750$\^{C}$ and this behavior can be also explained by the analysis of dielectric polarization hysteresis loop, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The effect of Zr/Ti composition has been also studied. This gives us the fact that the maximum piezoelectricity is found near Morphotropic Phase Boundary(MPB) as bulk PZT system does.
In the mechanical system, optimization of motion control is very essential in the aspect of automation technique progress. In the servo system, the function of controller is very important but most of the controllers have played only the role of pulse generator because the controller with main function is very expensive. In this thesis, the system was composed of PC, commonly used driver AC servo motor and a produced control board. The PC transmit a gain, a locus data to a driver and controller. At the same time, it converts imformation from the controller and convert them into data and offer an output with graph. The role of a controller is to trasmit a locus data to a driver and counting the pulse on the phase of an encoder to the PC. We have performed the experiment in order to confirm with variable PID parameter capable of the optimization of gain tuning with the counting of feedback control sensor signal with regard to the external interface into the system, such as torque. Based on the experiment result, we have confirmed as follows: First, it was confirmed that we could easily input control factors P.I Gain, constant $K_P,\;K_I$ into PC. Second, not only pulse generator function was possible, but with this pulse it was also possible to count using software with PIC chip. And third, using the multi-purpose PIC micro chip, simple operation and the formation of small size AC Servo Controller was possible.

In this paper, a magneto-optic modulator has been designed by using single crystal BSO and polycrystal ZnSe as Faraday cells. And practical core-type optical current sensors using pure iron and permalloy have been prepared and experimented. In order to obtain efficient magnetic field detection, LED(NEC OD08358, 0.87 $\mu$m) was used as optical source, PIN-PD(OD-8454)as optical receiver and multi-mode optical fiber (100/140$\mu$m) as transmission line. The characteristics matrix of the optical element was calculated by Stokes parameter, and optic modulation characteristics equations were derived by Muller matrix. Electromagnetic analysis program (FLUX 2D, micro VAX 3600) by finite element method was used to find the magnetic flux density around the core. The measuring error of the output voltage to input current has been masured below 5% in the range of 50A to 1000A. As the temperature was changed from -20$^{\circ}C$ to 60$^{\circ}C$, the maximum measurement error of the optical output has been found to be 0.5% at 60$^{\circ}C$. These experimental results show good temperature and linearity characteristics. The SNR of the overall system was 47dB in case of 600A (250.2 Oe) conductor current and the system has good noise immunity.
The thickness ranges and conditions to form the supersaturated solid solution in Al-Cr alloys were investigated with various rapid solidification conditions. Al-Cr alloys, rapidly solidified by using the small droplet chill quenching method, were examined by means of micro-vickers hardness, lattice parameter, thermal analysis and microscopic observation. The results obtained were as follows; 1. With the increase of solidification rate, the solidified structures were changed to intermetallic compound + solid solution, incompletely supersaturated solid solution, completely supersaturated solid solution, in turn. 2. The minimum solidification rate required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was $2.5{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$, $3.6{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ and $6.0{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1,2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt%Cr, respectively. 3. The maximum distance from the chill surface required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was 5mm, 1.3mm and 0.3mm for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1.2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt% Cr, respectively.

This paper presents mathematical models for high speed permanent-magnet synchronous machine. The mathematical method with two successive steps is used to estimate design parameter as well as the output power. At first, mathematical model for a linkage flux problem is employed to calculate the number of winding turns and stack length of armature core. The magnetic circuit model for an induced voltage and the electric circuit model for a current are modeled. The output powers of the electrical generator were evaluated by the mathematical techniques. The results of this mathematical methods predict the specifications of the machine and can be applied in the design stage of the electrical machine.
Chloride diffusivity of concrete is a crucial material parameter for service life determination and durability designing of marine concrete. Many research works on this issue have been conducted, varying from empirical solutions obtained experimentally to image analysis, based on multi-scale modeling. One of the simple approaches is to express the chloride diffusivity of concrete by a multi-factor function, however, the influences of various factors on the chloride diffusivity are ambiguous. Furthermore, the majority of these research works have not dealt with the carbonation process of concrete, although this process affects the chloride diffusivity of concrete significantly. The purpose of this study is to establish a simple approach to calculate the chloride diffusivity of (non)carbonated concrete. The chloride diffusivity of concrete should be defined, based on engineering and scientific knowledge of cement and concrete materials. In this paper, a lot of parameters affecting the chloride diffusivity, such as the diffusivity in pore solution, tortuosity, micro-structural properties of hardened cement paste, volumetric portion of aggregate, are taken into consideration in the calculation of the chloride diffusivity of noncarbonated concrete. For carbonated concrete, reduced porosity due to carbonation is calculated and used for calculating the chloride diffusivity. The results are compared with experimental data and previous research works.
Converging flows of a gas and a liquid at a microchannel cross junction, under proper conditions, can result in the formation of periodic, dispersed microslugs. This microslug formation phenomenon has been proposed as the basis for a fuel injection system in a novel, 'discrete' monopropellant microthruster designed for use in next-generation miniaturized satellites. Previous experimental studies demonstrated the ability to generate fuel slugs with characteristics commensurate with the intended application during steady-state operation. In this work, numerical and experimental techniques are used to study the effect of valve actuation on slug characteristics, and the results are used to compare with equivalent steady-state slugs. Computational simulations of a valve with a 1 ms valve-actuation cycle show that as the ratio of the response time of the valve to the fully open time is increased, transient effects can increase slug length by up to 17%. The simulations also demonstrate that the effect of the valve is largely independent of surface tension coefficient, which is the thermophysical parameter most responsible for slug formation characteristics. Flow visualization experiments performed using a miniature valve with a 20 ms response time showed less than a 1% change in the length of slugs formed during the actuation cycle. The results of this study indicate that impulse bit and thrust calculations can discount transient effects for slower valves, but as valve technology improves transient effects may become more significant.
A new enthalpy - based procedure for the homogenization of the electromechanical material parameters of composite piezoelectric modules with integrated electrodes is presented. It is based on a finite element (FE) modeling of the latter's representative volume element (RVE). In contrast to most previously published homogenization approaches that are based on averaged quantities, the presented method uses a direct evaluation of the electromechanical enthalpy. Hence, for the linear orthotropic piezoelectric composite behavior full set of elastic, piezoelectric, and dielectric material parameters, 17 load cases (LC) are used where each load case leads directly to one material parameter. This gives the possibility to elaborate a very strict and easy to program processing. In conjunction with the 17 LC, the enthalpy - based homogenization is particularly suitable for laminated composite piezoelectric modules with integrated electrodes. In this case, the electric load has to be given at the electrodes rather than at the RVE FE model boundaries. The proposed procedure is validated through its comparison to literature available results on a classical 1-3 piezoelectric micro fiber (longitudinally polarized) reinforced composite and a $d_{15}$ shear piezoelectric macro-fiber (transversely polarized) composite module.

Two-photon stereolithography (TPS) is recognized as a useful process for the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures. Recently, the need for a two-photon curable resin with high strength increases as 3-D moicrostructures of high aspect ratio or large scale of several hundreds micrometers are required for applications of nano/micro devices in IT/BT. In this work, process parameters of TPS employing the SU-8 which is a representative two-photon curable resin with high strength have been studied for the precise fabrication of 3-D microstructures with high strength. The pre-baking and post-baking processes are studied and the parameter study of the SU-8 in TPS is conducted. Through this work, very small roughness of 12 nm and the minimum aspect ratio of ${\sim}1$ which provides a precise accumulation of layers could be obtained. Using the conditions studied in this work, some 3-D examples are fabricated.
