To overcome many defects such as the high product cost, large energy consumption, and big space capacity in conventional mechanical machining, the miniaturization of machine tool and micro factory systems has been envisioned recently. The object of this paper is to research the effect of dynamic characteristic parameters in bolted-joint beams, which is widely applied to the joining of mechanical structures in order to identify structural system characteristics and to predict dynamic behavior according to scale-down from macro to micro system as the development of micro/meso-scale machine tool and micro factories. Modal parameters such as the natural frequency, damping ratio, and mode shape from modal testing and dynamic characteristics from finite element analysis are extracted with all 12 test beam models by materials, by size, and by joining condition, and then the results obtained by both methods are compared.

Ultrasonic sensors are widely used in mobile robot applications to recognize external environments, because they are cheap, easy to use, and robust under varying lighting conditions. In most cases, a single ultrasonic sensor is used to measure the distance to an object based on time-of-flight (TOF) information, whereas multiple sensors are used to recognize the shape of an object, such as a corner, plane, or edge. However, the conventional sequential driving technique involves a long measurement time. This problem can be resolved by pulse coding ultrasonic signals, which allows multi-sensors to be fired simultaneously and adjacent objects to be distinguished. Accordingly, the current presents a new simultaneous coded driving system for an ultrasonic sensor array for object recognition in autonomous mobile robots. The proposed system is designed and implemented using a DSP and FPGA. A micro-controller board is made using a DSP, Polaroid 6500 ranging modules are modified for firing the coded signals, and a 5-channel coded signal generating board is made using a FPGA. To verify the proposed method, experiments were conducted in an environment with overlapping signals, and the flight distances for each sensor were obtained from the received overlapping signals using correlations and conversion to a bipolar PCM-NRZ signal.
In this paper, it has a proposal of the RFID reader antenna design that expand the dedicated short-range communication distance between a static object on the ground and a mobile object attached on the moving article. The static reader equipped with micro-processor makes it possible to have a serial communication with a main system, so that much data can be transfer to the main system. An antenna is adjusted in order to a communication, the scale is designed by results values of simulation using matlab. It is achieved to systematically manage logistics, person resource and security system by grasping the information and location of mobile object on the basis that this system receives the information between a static reader and a mobile object tag at 134.2kHz band on real time, also to make it possible the main system to process. Therefore, the reader antenna scale is controlled on the foundation of a magnetic field theory in order to expand a recognition distance of reader and tag, so that can be optimistically recognized with minimizing the direction influence of reader and tag.
A speckle correlation method was applied to measure the in-plane translation of a diffuse object which has rough surface using a linear CCD sensor and personal computer. Displacement of a speckle pattern produced from the object illuminated by a laser beam was measured by the cross-correlation functions between the I-D speckle profiles before and after the object translation, which were measured by linear CCD array sensor to be sent to IBM 386 personal computer. The sensitivity of the measurement was dependent on the radius of the wavefront curvature of incident beam as well as the spatial resolution of linear CCD array. A linear CCD array had 15 Jlffi pitch and 1728 pixels. The ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation varied from 1.03 to 5.20. The object translation of $3\mu\textrm{m}$ can be measured br the linear CCD sensor of which pitch was $15\mu\textrm{m}$, when the ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation was 5.20.s 5.20.

The three-dimensional measurement method of confocal systems is a spot scanning method which has a high resolution and good illumination efficiency. However, conventional confocal systems had a weak point in that it has to perform XY axis scanning to achieve FOV (Field of View) vision through spot scanning. There are some methods to improve this problem involving the use of a galvano mirror [1], pin-hole array, etc. Therefore, in this paper we propose a method to improve a parallel mode confocal system using a micro-lens and pin-hole array in a dual microscope configuration. We made an area scan possible by using a combination MLA (Micro Lens Array) and pin-hole array, and used an objective lens to improve the light transmittance and signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, we made it possible to change the objective lens so that it is possible to select a lens considering the reflection characteristic of the measuring object and proper magnification. We did an experiment using 5X, 2.3X objective lens, and did a calibration of height using a VLSI calibration target.
The majority of research that has been performed on cracking potential of concrete by shrinkage has assumed that concrete acts as a homogeneous material. However, with this approach, it is not able to evaluate the micro-cracking behavior in concrete due to autogenous shrinkage under unrestrained boundary condition (free boundary condition) nor to understand the cracking behavior properly because of the heterogeneous nature of concrete. To better understand the micro-cracking behavior of concrete induced by autogenous shrinkage, series of experiments were performed measuring the length change and acoustic emission energy. As an analytical approach, this research uses an object oriented finite element analysis code (OOF code) to simulate the behavior of the concrete on a meso-scale. The concrete images used in the simulations were directly obtained from mortar samples. From the experiments and simulation results, it was able to better understand the micro-cracking behaviour of concrete due to shrinking of paste phase and internal restraint by aggregates.
It is requested to shorten the starting duration for idle stop function equipped cars without harmful effects on the environment. Higher cranking speeds can be achieved with high torque starter. The object of this study is to develope the high torque starter and evaluate its effect on the exhaust emissions. The test was conducted on a 1.5 L, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, multipoint-port-fuel-injection gasoline engine. Engine out emissions such as HC, CO, $CO_2$, and the excess air ratios, lambda were measured using MEXA-554JK. The result showed that a high torque starter, HTS-II shortened the starting duration and reduced engine out emissions of HC, CO and improved starting performance with larger excess air ratio than that of the original starter, Org. S and a high torque starter, HTS-I.
Using a modified Michelson interferometer configuration, the flatness of micro mirror cell surface was probed. Interferograms were captured at CCD camera plane by defocusing object beam onto the micro mirror with microscope objective lens. And these were compared with the interferograms made with the flat metallic mirror. Also, the theoretical analysis is presented.

A precision displacement measurement system of 3-DOF micro motions is proposed in this paper. The measurement system is composed of two diode lasers, two quadratic PSDs, two beam splitters and a sphere whose surface is highly reflective. In this measurement system, the sphere reflector is mounted on the platform of positioning devices whose 3-DOF translational motions are to be measured, and the sensitive areas of two PSDs are oriented toward the center point of the sphere reflector. Each laser beam emitted from two diode laser sources is reflected at the surface of sphere and arrives at two PSDs. Each PSD serves as a 2-dimensional sensor, providing the information on the 3-dimensional position of the sphere. In this paper, we model the relationship between the outputs of two PSDs and 3-DOF translational motions of the sphere mounted on the object. Based on a deduced measurement model, we perform measurement simulation and evaluate the performance of the proposed measurement system: linearity, sensitivity, and measurement error. The simulation results show that the proposed measurement system can be valid means of precision displacement measurement of 3-dimensional micro motions.
