  • Micro wires manufactured by the straightening process are used in the BT(Bio-Technology), IT(Information-Technology), NT(Nano-Technology). We have developed a novel wire straightener which uses the direct heating method(DHM) for straightening the micro wire and shearing device for burr-less cutting. In this study, we confirm the tendency of micro wire after the shearing process. It is impossible to remove the burr in the shearing process. However, the embodiment of minimum burr size after the shearing process is the best in-process method. In order to minimize the burr size, we have accomplished the various experiment condition such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, the shear angle, clearance.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of micro-burr formation in the cross hatch and deburring in honed surfaces. Two types of micro-burrs formed in the cross hatch were defined as upper edge burr (type A) and side edge burr (type B). The size of micro-burrs were measured for the honed surfaces of several cross hatch angle. Deburring mechanism and system using magneto-electrolytic process including the abrasive pad for mechanic deburring effects together were introduced. Deburring experiments and analysis were carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the deburring process.

  • In piercing operation for small hole in very thin plate, micro burrs are formed. The micro burr is very difficult to remove because the thin plate is to be deformed during deburring and deteriorate accuracy. As a first step to remove the micro burrs effectively, the burr must be measured accurately as much as possible. For most micro burrs are so small as less than 10$\mu\textrm{m}$, it is very difficult to measure. Several methods are reviewed to measure the micro burr formed in piercing operation from very thin plate with thickness less than 0.1mm. Also the effective deburring methods are reviewed. Barreling ultrasonic and chemical deburring methods are performed and the results are compared.

  • In this study, combined micro press and surface finishing process are proposed to fabricate the micro nozzle array on a stainless steel sheet metal. In micro hole punching process the burr occurs inevitably, but the burr must be minimized in order to improve the quality and accuracy of the product. For this reason, subsequent magnetic field-assisted finishing technique is applied to remove the burr which exists around the nozzles for ink-jet printer head and proved to be a feasible for deburring by experiment. The deburring characteristics of sheet metals were investigated changing with polishing time and magnetic abrasive size. After the deburring, the burr size has remarkably reduced and roundness of the hole also has improved.

  • C3M(chemical mechanical micro machining) is applied for diminishing the size of burr and fabricating the massless patterning for aluminium wafer(thickness of 1${\mu}m$). It is difficult to perform the micro size machining with the radically increased shear stress. While the miniaturization and function-orientation of parts has been needed in the many field such as electronics, optics and medicine. etc., it is not enough to satisfy the industry needs in the machining technology. In this paper feasibility test of diminishing burr and fabricating maskless pattern was experimented and analyzed. In the experiment oxide layer was farmed on the aluminium with chemical reaction by ${HNO_3}$(10wt%), then the surface was grooved with tungsten carbide tool for the different condition such as the load and fred rate. The result was compared with the conventional machining to show the improvement of C3M with SEM for burr diminish and XPS for atomic existence, AFM for more precise image.

  • Punching/blanking/shearing is among the oldest and most frequently used sheet metal forming process. We have developed the shear device for burrless cutting using the micro wire. Since the burr minimization and fine shear plane, this paper is a study on the effect of the shear angle and clearance of the cutter-cutter. And, we confirm the tendency of the shear plane. It is impossible to completely remove the burr in the shearing process. In order to minimize the burr size and fine shear plane, we have accomplished the various experiment conditions such as the shear angle and clearance. Despite the quality of shear plane is not good enough yet, it is possible to make the burr minimization and fine shear plane by the optimization of process parameters.

  • The formation of micro-burrs in micro-milling processes causes several problems related to productivity and surface integrity. It should be minimized and suppressed by effective monitoring of the cutting conditions. This paper presents the correlation between the micro-burr length and cutting signals in the micro-milling process of an Al alloy (Al6061-T6). The acoustic emission (AE) signals and cutting force signals are acquired during the experiments. The characteristics of the cutting signals are obtained by analyzing the AE root mean square value and resultant cutting force. In addition, the micro-burr length is measured according to the cutting conditions by analyzing a scanning electron microscopy image of the machined surface. The results of this study can be used to enhance the surface quality of micro parts.

  • The machining technology for the removal of micro-burr has been demanded because electrode parts of electron gun have minute holes. In this study, Magnetic Assisted Polishing(MAP) is applied to remove the micro-burr instead of the contentional polishing process such as the etching and barrel. Optimal polishing conditions are selected from many experiments using the tool of the flat end slit type. On the basis of experimental results, the deburring machine for the Magnetic Assisted Polishing of electrode part is developed and its performance is evaluated.
