This study was conducted to evaluate and compare the apical leakage in the following retrofilling techniques after apical resection; No apical cavity preparation and no retrofilling(control group), Amalgam(group I) or silver glass ionomer cement(group II) retrofilling after apical cavity preparation with mini contra-angle and bur, Amalgam(group III) or silver glass ionomer cement(group N) retrofilling after apical cavity preparation with ultrasonic micro endo tip. Extracted ninety upper anterior and lower canine teeth were fixed in skull simulators and root canals were prepared with step-back method and obturated with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol sealer. Obturated roots were resected 2mm from apical ends and apical cavities of 1mm width and 2mm depth were prepared and retrofilled by above mentioned methods. After application of nail varnish on all surface except resected surface, apical 1/3 of the roots were placed in 1% methylene blue solution for 3 days. After longutudinal sectioning to expose central parts of filled materials, depths of penetrated dye were measured by measuring microscope and were analyzed statistically. The results were as follows. 1. Having no relation with instruments used in apical cavity preparation, amalgam retrofilling groups(group I and II) showed less apical leakage which was not significant statistically than no retrofilling group(control group) (P<0.05), but silver glass ionomer cement retrofilling gruoups(group II and IV) showed significantly less apical leakage than no retrofilling group(control group) (P<0.01). 2. In the groups retrofilled with the same material, the apical leakage in cavities prepared with ultrasonic micro endo tip (group III and IV) was less than that in cavities prepared with mini contra-angle and bur(group I and II), but not significant statistically(P>0.05). 3. When apical cavities were prepared with same instrument. the egroups retrofilled with silver glass ionomer cement(group II and IV) showed significantly less apical leakage than the groups retrofilled with amalgam(group I and III)(<0.01).

There have been several methods to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters, which include as-grown, spraying, screen-printing, electrophoresis and bonding methods. Unfortunately, these techniques generally suffer from two main problems. One is a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathode. The as-grown, spraying and electrophoresis methods show a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathodes, which induces CNT emitters pulled out under a high electric field. The other is a severe degradation of the CNT tip due to organic binders used in the fabrication process. The screen-printing method which is widely used to fabricate CNT emitters generally shows a critical degradation of CNT emitters caused by the organic binder. Such kinds of problems induce a short lifetime of the CNT field emitters which may limit their practical applications. Therefore, a robust CNT emitter which has the strong mechanical adhesion and no degradation is still a great challenge. Here, we introduce a simple and effective technique for fabrication of CNT field emitter, namely filtration-taping-transfer method. The CNT emitters fabricated by the filtration-taping-transfer method show the low turn-on electric fields, the high emission current, good uniformity and good stability. The enhanced emission performance of the CNT emitters is mainly attributed to high emission sites on the emitter area, and to good ohmic contact and strong mechanical adhesion between the emitters and cathodes. The CNT emitters using a simple and effective fabrication method can be applied for various field emission applications such as field emission displays, lamps, e-beam sources, and x-ray sources. The detail fabrication process will be covered at the poster.

Purpose Practical challenges are encountered in percutaneous intravascular procedures when applied to markedly angulated branching vessels. Herein, we introduced a folded-loop guidewire remodeling technique-the guidewire-shaping technique-to overcome difficult catheterization. Materials and Methods First, the tip of a 0.014-inch micro-guidewire was manually shaped like a pigtail loop. Second, the shaped guidewire was introduced into the microcatheter and was preloaded into the hollow metal introducer for suitability with the microcatheter hub. Gentle rotation of the guidewire after release from the microcatheter can create the preshaped pigtail loop configuration. On pulling back, the loop loosened, the configuration was changed to a small U-shaped tip, and the guidewire tip was easily introduced into the target artery. Results Between December 2019 and January 2022, the described technique was used in 64 patients (male/female, 49/15; mean age, 66.8 ± 9.5 years) for selective arterial embolization, after failed attempts with the conventional selection technique. The technique was successful in 63/64 patients (98%). The indications of embolization include transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemoptysis, trauma-induced bleeding, and tumor bleeding. Conclusion The folded-loop guidewire remodeling technique facilitates the catheterization of markedly angulated branching arteries; when usual catheterization method fails.

This study involved the fabrication of precision machine tools using a polycrystalline diamond tip [sintered PCD and cemented carbide (WC-Co) tip] and WC-Co shanks via diffusion bonding with a paste-type nickel alloy filler metal. Diffusion bonding is a process whereby two materials are pressed together at high temperature and high pressure for a sufficient period of time to allow significant atomic diffusion to occur. For smooth progress, a filler metal of nickel alloy was used at the interface. Optical microscopy images were used to observe the copula of the bonded layer. It was confirmed that cracks occurred near the junction in all cases. The tensile strength of the bond was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM) with WC-Co proportional test specimens.

In this paper, we report the fabrication of concave surface fiber tips for optical resonators. It was confirmed that the radius of curvature on fiber end can be controlled by introducing the hydrofluoric acid solution and the wavelength of $1.55{\mu}m$ laser which is absorbed well in the etchant to induce the photothermal effect. Using the microscope images, we observed the proposed concave fiber tip fabrication method is effective to make the controllable concave tips. We also observed changes in the size of the beam emitted from the tips with the various radius of curvature using the beam profiler. The authors believe that the proposed method will be applied to resonators for optical communications.

In order to standardize the pressure/depth against radial artery, the externally-applied-pressure measuring system was fabricated and evaluated. Based on the resistance-variable characteristic of the very thin($10{\mu}m$) film conductive tape along the pressure of a tip of a examiner's hand, this system was designed. The change of the pressure was processed through voltage regulator and Matlab S/W, then showed on computer monitor. The signal output through voltage regulator, and Matlab S/W was evaluated on various conditions. The evaluation was executed on these cases; an examiner slowly increases and decreases the pressure, rapidly increases and decreases the pressure, sequentially increases and decreases the pressure, sustains the pressure, micro-changes the pressure. As a pulse examiner varies the pressure on the radial artery of the examinee, the system's real-time output consistently varies according to the pressure. From the results, it is concluded that this system consistently shows the pressure of the tip of a examiner's hand in real time without interrupting the evaluation of the radial artery pulse. Therefore this system is expected to standardize the value of the pressure/depth externally applied by an examiner.

B-dot logic is generally used for controlling the initial tip-off rate. However, it has the disadvantage of taking a relatively long time to control the initial tip-off rate. To solve this problem, this paper suggests a new detumbling control method to be able to adapt to micro/nanosatellite with the pitch bias momentum system. Proposed detumbling method was able to control the angular rate within 20 minutes which is a significant reduction compared to conventional methods.

Miniaturization of lenses has been widely researched by various scientific and engineering techniques. As a result, micro scaled lens structure could be easily achieved from various fabrication techniques; nevertheless it is still challenging to make nano scaled lenses. This paper reports a novel fabrication method of silicon nanotemplate for nanolens array. The inverse structure of nanolens array was fabricated on silicon substrate by reactive ion etching (RIE) process. This technique has a flexibility to produce different tip shapes using different pattern masks. Once the silicon nano-tip array structure is well-defined using an optimized recipe, it is followed by polymer molding to duplicate nanolens array from the template. Finally, the nanostructures formed on silicon nanotemplate and polymer replica were investigated using FE-SEM and AFM measurements. The nano scaled lens can be manufactured from the same template, also using other replication techniques such as imprinting, injection molding and so on.
In this study, we aimed to clarify the wettability and anisotropic flow characteristics of rice leaves as a basic study for engineering applications of anisotropic flow characteristics of rice leaf surface. To investigate the surface structure of rice leaf, the micro grooves and asperities of rice leaves were analyzed and quantified by scanning electron microscope, Confocal laser scanning microscopy, and stylus profilometer. The analysis of the structure of rice leaf surface confirmed that asymmetrical cone - like protrusions in leaf veins were inclined toward the leaf tip. The static contact angle test showed that the contact angle at the midline vein or leaf vein location where the micropapilla is concentrated is about $20^{\circ}$ higher than the leaf blade position. The contact angles of fresh and dried rice leave were also compared. The dried rice leaves showed a contact angle of about $5^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$ higher than that of fresh leaves, suggesting that the volume of the protrusions decreased as the water was removed, thus reducing the contact area with the droplet. In the contact angle history test the hysteresis in the leaf tip direction was found to be much lower than that in the leaf petiole direction. This results can be explained that asymmetrical cone - like protrusions had a significant effect on the droplet flow characteristics through contact angle hysteresis experiment.
A microgripper driven by E-T (electro-thermal) actuators has been designed and fabricated by surface micromachining. This microgripper consists of two E-T actuators. Each actuator has two arms with different widths joined at the end to form a 'U' shape. The wider 'cold' arm has a narrow flexure at the end (anchor or electrode side) for easy bending, This actuator can be fabricated with only two masks - one for the sacrificial layer and the other for the poly-Si structure layer. An E-T actuator bends its arm due to unequal thermal expansion between the 'cold' arm and the 'hot' arm, This actuator tip moves laterally in an arcing motion towards the cold arm side when the structure is unevenly heated by the applied current. Therefore each microgripper is actuated inwards and can hold a micro object. The fabricated E-T actuator was operated in the range of $2{\sim}12V$ and $1{\sim}5mA$. and maximum tip displacement was $13.6{\mu}m$. This device may become useful in many applications because an E-T actuator can be designed and fabricated easily, and obtain large displacement.
