Transposable elements (TEs) occupy approximately 45% of the human genome and can enter functional genes randomly. During evolutionary radiation, multiple copies of TEs are produced by duplication events. Those elements contribute to biodiversity and phylogenomics. Most of them are controlled by epigenetic regulation, such as methylation or acetylation. Every species contains their own specific mobile elements, and they are divided into DNA transposons and retrotransposons. Retrotransposons can be divided by the presence of a long terminal repeat (LTR). They show various biological functions, such as promoter, enhancer, exonization, rearrangement, and alternative splicing. Also, they are strongly implicated to genomic instability, causing various diseases. Therefore, they could be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases such as cancers. Recently, it was found that TEs could produce miRNAs, which play roles in gene inhibition through mRNA cleavage or translational repression, binding seed regions of target genes. Studies of TE-derived miRNAs offer a potential for the expression of functional genes. Comparative analyses of different types of miRNAs in various species and tissues could be of interest in the fields of evolution and phylogeny. Those events allow us to understand the importance of TEs in relation to biological roles and various diseases.
The forest management paradigm has recently shifted from focusing on commercial production to focusing on ecosystem management. Accordingly, a natural seedling regeneration method that has a naturally high affinity has attracted much attention in recent years. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship among various environmental factors, lower stratum vegetation, and seedling regeneration in Pinus densiflora forests. The survey site comprised 50 sectors divided using the line transect method, and the survey data were divided into those from wet habitat (19 sites) and dry habitat (31 sites), depending on the soil humidity, and were analyzed separately to show the close relationship between soil humidity and natural seedling regeneration. As a result, the dry habitat exhibited high seedling density (157,419 trees/ha), with the main species being Quercus serrata, Zanthoxylum piperitum, Smilax china, and Pueraria lobata, while wet habitat exhibited low seedling density (57,895 trees/ha), with the main species being Stephanandra incisa, Castanea crenata, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Lysimachia barystachys, Aralia elata, and Styrax japonicus. The height and root-collar diameter under wet conditions exhibited faster growth than those under dry conditions. Height growth by the root-collar diameter in dry habitat increased faster than that in wet habitat. It was also confirmed that seedling regeneration in wet habitat exhibited a rapid growth pattern 5 years after germination. These results suggest that the seedlings begin to grow more rapidly after a period of suppression by competition with surrounding plants. Considering an ecosystem or ecological management approach, specific practices, such as bush control and vine clearing in wet habitats, should be more intensively conducted, especially at the beginning of the management operations.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the corrosion behaviors of dental implant alloy after microsized surface modification in electrolytes containing Mn ion. Materials and Methods: $Mn-TiO_2$ coatings were prepared on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy for dental implants using a plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method carried out in electrolytes containing different concentrations of Mn, namely, 0%, 5%, and 20%. Potentiodynamic method was employed to examine the corrosion behaviors, and the alternatingcurrent (AC) impedance behaviors were examined in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5^{\circ}C{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ using a potentiostat and an electrochemical impedance spectroscope. The potentiodynamic test was performed with a scanning rate of $1.667mV\;s^{-1}$ from -1,500 to 2,000 mV. A frequency range of $10^{-1}$ to $10^5Hz$ was used for the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The amplitude of the AC signal was 10 mV, and 5 points per decade were used. The morphology and structure of the samples were examined using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and thin-film X-ray diffraction. The elemental analysis was performed using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Result: The PEO-treated surface exhibited an irregular pore shape, and the pore size and number of the pores increased with an increase in the Mn concentration. For the PEO-treated surface, a higher corrosion current density ($I_{corr}$) and a lower corrosion potential ($E_{corr}$) was obtained as compared to that of the bulk surface. However, the current density in the passive regions ($I_{pass}$) was found to be more stable for the PEO-treated surface than that of the bulk surface. As the Mn concentration increased, the capacitance values of the outer porous layer and the barrier layer decreased, and the polarization resistance of the barrier layers increased. In the case of the Mn/Ca-P coatings, the corroded surface was found to be covered with corrosion products. Conclusion: It is confirmed that corrosion resistance and polarization resistance of PEO-treated alloy increased as Mn content increased, and PEO-treated surface showed lower current density in the passive region.
As the dependence of technology on the economic structure increases, the importance of National Core Technology is increasing. However, due to the nature of the technology itself, it is difficult to determine the scope of the technology to be protected because the scope of the relation is abstract and information disclosure is limited due to the nature of the National Core Technology. To solve this problem, we propose the most appropriate literature type and method of analysis to distinguish important technologies related to National Core Technology. We conducted a pilot test to apply TF-IDF, and LDA topic modeling, two techniques of text mining analysis for big data analysis, to four types of literature (news, papers, reports, patents) collected with National Core Technology keywords in the field of Display industry. As a result, applying LDA theme modeling to patent data are highly relevant to National Core Technology. Important technologies related to the front and rear industries of displays, including OLEDs and microLEDs, were identified, and the results were visualized as networks to clarify the scope of important technologies associated with National Core Technology. Throughout this study, we have clarified the ambiguity of the scope of association of technologies and overcome the limited information disclosure characteristics of national core technologies.
Education for Sustainable Development is an imperative mean to achieve the sustainable development which is the key idea that meets the needs of both present and succeeding generations by reconciling environmental protection, social development and economic growth. This study addressed the following question. First, what is the overall structure of the ESD contents presented in the textbooks? Second, How are the sub-contents of ESD distributed in the textbooks? Lastly, How are the ESD contents connected to mathematics in the textbooks? For this purpose, the contents in the elemtentary mathematics textbooks from 1st to 6th grades were analyzed at both macro and micro levels through quantitative and qualitative research methods. As results, contents related to environmental, social, and economic dimensions were presented from the first grade. The contents were involved the mathematics content domains of Numbers and Operations, Data and Possibilities, and Patterns. However, the contents were presented intensively in middle and high grades, and environmental topics accounted for a high proportion. Among the activities related to ESD, many were focused on solving problems mathematically while some were presented to solve problems as well as to consider sustainability through the activities. Based on the results, the study aims to provide implications for the direction of mathematics education for sustainable development in elementary school.

In this study, we carried out a distribution and migration boundary lines of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) in the Milyang River. We measured the total length of dead chum salmons. As a results, 40 chum salmons were found during the study period, 25 dead salmons and 15 alive individuals. The ratio of female was 64%. We verified the migration boundary lines of chum salmons based on a sighting survey until detecting a structure that chum salmons are not able to migrate upstream. We discovered that chum salmons were not able to migrate up to 13 km in a mainstream of the Milyang River and up to 12 km in the Danjang stream (a tributary of the Milayang River) from upstream of the Yerim Bridge. Therefore, our results indicate that Milyang River should improve a river connectivity by demolishing weirs that disturb chum salmon's migration or installing appropriate fishways. Also, effective legislations are needed to retain naturality in spawning ground and micro-habitats to increase the survival rate of parrs and smolts.

Expandable steel pipe piles are installed by inserting expansion equipment to increase the cross-sectional area of steel pipes, which can improve the pile performance compared to micro-piles. In this paper, a hydraulic expansion device was developed to expand steel pipe piles in practice. A series of laboratory and field tests were conducted to verify the performance of the developed expansion device to expand steel pipes. The expansion capability and expandable range was evaluated by measuring the strain and expansion time at the maximum pressure of the hydraulic expansion device. The thinner steel pipe, the larger strain but longer expansion time required in the test. For example, the 4.0-mm-thick steel pipe showed strain reduction by 30% and a decrease in the required expansion time by 40% compared to the 2.9-mm-thick steel pipe. In addition, in-situ expansion tests were performed to verify the expandability of steel pipes under the ground, and the exhumed specimen showed clear expanded sections. The structural integrity was determined by comparing the material performance the original and expanded specimens.

Recently, the semiconductor package structures are becoming thinner and more complex. As the thickness decrease, interfacial delamination due to material mismatch can be further maximized, so the reliability of interface is a critical issue in industry field. Especially, the polymers, which are widely used in semiconductor packaging, are significantly affected by the temperature and moisture. Therefore, in this study, the delamination prediction at the interface of package structure was performed through finite element analysis considering the moisture absorption and desorption under the various temperature conditions. The material properties such as diffusivity and saturated moisture content were obtained from moisture absorption test. The hygro-swelling coefficients of each material were analyzed through TMA and TGA after the moisture absorption. The micro-shear test was conducted to evaluate the adhesion strength of each interface at various temperatures considering the moisture effect. The finite element analysis of interfacial delamination was performed that considers both deformation due to temperature and moisture absorption. Consequently, the interfacial delamination was successfully predicted in consideration of the in-situ moisture desorption and temperature behavior during the reflow process.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the hazard of fungi in Garaetteok (Korean rice cake) by isolating and identifying of fungi contaminated with Garaetteok and investigating the possibility of mycotoxin production. Garaetteok used in this study were the ones that were returned back to the manufacturers in Jeollanam-do due to the presence of foreign matters presumed to be fungi. The fungi foreign matter was collected and inoculated on Potato dextrose agar, Malt extract agar, and Czapek yeast extract agar, and then cultured at 25℃ for 7 days. The micro-structure was observed under an optical microscope for the colonies in which pure isolation was confirmed. The gene sequencing of the product of amplified PCR was analyzed using the ITS primer. Colony-1 and 2 maintained the same properties in each tray, confirming that they were purely isolated. Budding cells were observed from the Colony-1, thus, it was determined to be yeast. Colony-2 was determined to be a fungus that belongs to Fusarium spp. as fusiform conidia were observed. As a result of gene sequencing, a total of 76 cases of fungi of Fusarium spp. were found, among which Fusarium solani was the most observed cases (53 cases). From the morphological and genetic identification, Colony-2 was identified as Fusarium spp., specifically, Fusarium solani. The fungi found in Fusarium spp. produce mycotoxins such as nivalenol, zearalenone, and fumonisin, which may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and cancer. Conclusively, the results confirm the possibility of mycotoxin production by Fusarium spp. isolated from Garaetteok. Consequently, when an unknown fungus was found, it is necessary to isolate and identify the fungus, determine whether it is a mycotoxin producing species, and strengthen relative administrative measures, accordingly.
Background: Ginsenoside Rg3 is one of the main active ingredients in ginseng. Here, we aimed to confirm its protective effect on the heart function in transverse aortic coarctation (TAC)-induced heart failure mice and explore the potential molecular mechanisms involved. Methods: The effects of ginsenoside Rg3 on heart and mitochondrial function were investigated by treating TAC-induced heart failure in mice. The mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 for improving heart and mitochondrial function in mice with heart failure was predicted through integrative analysis of the proteome and plasma metabolome. Glucose uptake and myocardial insulin sensitivity were evaluated using micro-positron emission tomography. The effect of ginsenoside Rg3 on myocardial insulin sensitivity was clarified by combining in vivo animal experiments and in vitro cell experiments. Results: Treatment of TAC-induced mouse models with ginsenoside Rg3 significantly improved heart function and protected mitochondrial structure and function. Fusion of metabolomics, proteomics, and targeted metabolomics data showed that Rg3 regulated the glycolysis process, and Rg3 not only regulated glucose uptake but also improve myocardial insulin resistance. The molecular mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 regulation of glucose metabolism was determined by exploring the interaction pathways of AMPK, insulin resistance, and glucose metabolism. The effect of ginsenoside Rg3 on the promotion of glucose uptake in IR-H9c2 cells by AMPK activation was dependent on the insulin signaling pathway. Conclusions: Ginsenoside Rg3 modulates glucose metabolism and significantly ameliorates insulin resistance through activation of the AMPK pathway.
