The microstructure and fractography of the friction welded joint of Al to Cu have been investigated in order to understand the formation of intermetallic compounds and their effects on the failure in tensile test of the joint. The variation of welding pressure did not affect significantly the tensile strength of joint. However, the tensile strength of joint decreaed as welding time increased. The thickness of reaction layers of welded joints was several micro-meters and mainly composed of intermetallic compounds of $CuAl_2$, $Cu_9Al_4$ and Al+$CuAl_2$. The thickness of $CuAl_2$, $Cu_9Al_4$ was increased with welding time. However, $CuAl_2$ was gradually changed to $Cu_9Al_4$ which caused the decrease of tensile strength . Even though the morphology of fractured surfaces depended upon the welding time, the failure occurred along $CuAl_2$ intermetallic compound itself or between $CuAl_2$ and $Cu_9Al_4$ in most cases.

The purpose of this study is for the active use of the fly ash, which is a by-product of the combustion pulverizes coal thermal power plants, to compensate for the lack of landfill and for conservation of energy, by using fly ash as the supplementary cementitious material, and to prove its possibility as the related products of the cement. First of all, the ordinary fly ash is grinded in a special method and its fineness is controlled from 6000$\textrm{cm}^2$/g to 8000$\textrm{cm}^2$/g, then replaced it with the 10% to 80% of the cement mortar in order to test physics characteristics. The first experiment conducts on the strength development in fly ash replacing content and fineness. and the changes of the flow values, incorporating fly ash into cement. The second one is about the slow development of the strength of the fly ash mortar in early ages, and improves its strength with the activator $Na_{2}SO_{4}$, using high volume fly ash.

The present study aimed to investigate the potential of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) in improving the properties of bio-concrete. E. faecalis and B. cereus strains were obtained from fresh urine and an acid mire water at cell concentration of 1.16×1012 and 1.3×1012 cells mL-1, respectively. The bacterial strains were inoculated in a liquid medium into the concrete with 1, 3 and 5% as replacement of water cement ratio (w/c). The ability of E. faecalis and B. cereus cells to accumulate the calcite and the decrement of pores size within bio-concrete was confirmed by SEM and EDX analysis. The results revealed that E. faecalis exhibited high efficiency for increasing of compressive and splitting tensile strength than B. cereus (23 vs. 14.2%, and 13 vs. 8.5%, respectively). These findings indicated that E. faecalis is more applicable in the bio-concrete due to its ability to enhance strength development and reduce water penetration.
In order to use the high-volume slag cement as a construction materials, a proper activator which can improve the latent hydraulic reactivity is required. The dissolved aluminum silicon ions from ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) react with sulfate ions to form ettringite. The proper formation of ettringite can increase the early-age strength of high-volume GGBFS (80%) cement. The aim of this study is to investigate the hydration properties with sulfate activators (sodium sulfate, anhydrite). In this paper, the effects of $Na_2SO_4$ and $CaSO_4$ on setting, compressive strength, hydration, micro-structure were investigated in high-volume GGBFS cement and compared with those of without activator. Test results indicate that equivalent $SO_3$ content of 3~5% improve the early-age hydration properties such as compressive strength, heat evolution rate, micro-pore structure in high-volume GGBFS cement.

This study investigates the spalling properties of high strength concrete designed with various types of mineral admixture and diverse content ratios of polypropylene (PP) fiber. Experimental factors considered in series I are four pozzolan types of mineral admixture and series II consists of three shrinkage reducing types of mineral admixture. PP fiber was added 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15vol. % in each mixture of series I and series II, so that totally 27 specimens including control concretes in each series were prepared. Test results showed that the increase of fiber content decreased the slump flow of fresh concrete and increased or decreased the air content depending on the declining ratio of slump flow. For the properties of compressive strength, all specimens were indicated at around 50 MPa, which is high strength range; especially all specimens in series II were 60 MPa. Fire test was conducted in standard heating curve of ISO 834 with ${\phi}100{\times}200\;mm$ size of cylinder moulds for 1 hour. The specimens incorporating silica fume exhibited severe spalling and most specimens without the silica fume could be protected from the spalling occurrence in only 0.05vol % of PP fiber content. This fire test results demonstrated that the spalling occurrence in high strength concrete was not only affected by concrete strength related to the porosity of microstructure but also, even more influenced by micro pore structure induced by the mineral admixtures.

Stone powder sludge is a byproduct of the crushed aggregate industry, and most of it is dumped with soil in landfills. The disposal of stone powder sludge presents a major environmental problem. This paper investigates the effects of stone powder sludge on the fluidity, density, strength and micro-structure properties of AAC(autoclaved aerated concrete) samples. Stone powder sludge was obtained from a crushed aggregate factory in order to investigate its applicability as a substitute for quartz sand in AAC. To determine the properties of the AAC samples produced with stone powder sludge, specimens containing different foam ratios were produced. Flow value, density, compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength of the samples were tested, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was performed. The test results indicated that the compressive strength of AAC specimens (F120) with stone powder sludge was higher than that of AAC specimens (Q120) with quartz sand for same foam ratio of 120%. For all XRD diagrams, a higher number of tobermorite peaks was shown for the F120 sample than for the Q120 sample, which may explain the slightly higher strength gain in the F120 sample.

The cemented sand and gravel (CSG) method is a construction technique that adds cement and water to rock-like materials, such as rivered gravel or excavation muck which that can be obtained easily at areas adjacent to dam sites. This study was performed to evaluate the unconfined compressive strength properties and freezing and thawing resistance of CSG materials with unit cement content. The three types of CSG-80, CSG-100 and CSG-120 with cement content were designed to evaluate the optimum water content, dry density, strength, stress-strain, micro structure and durability factor. As the results, the optimum water content ratio with cement content showed almost similar tendency, and the unconfined compressive strength and dry density increased as cement content increases. The strength ratio of 7 days for 28 days were in the range of 55~61 % and the strain ratio in stress-strain curve were in the range of 0.8~1.6 % nearby maximum strength in 28 days. It is expected that this study will contribute to increasing application of CSG method as well as to increasing the utilizing of CSG materials as a environmentally friendly CSG method.
Turbulent boundary-layer over a micro-riblet film(MRF) was investigated experimentally. The MRF has sharp V-shaped micro scale grooves of $300{\mu}m$ in width and $176.8{\mu}m$ in height. Particle image velocimetry(PIV) system was employed to measure velocity fields of flow over the MRF coated plate. Flow over a smooth plate was also measured for comparison. The PIV measurements were taken in the streamwise wall-normal planes at Re$\theta$= 985 and 2342. Vortex structures of the flow were analyzed by extracting the swirling strength as an unambiguous vortex-identification criterion. As a result the number of spanwise vortices with clockwise(negative) rotation decreases rapidly in the near-wall region(y<0.2h), but decreases slowly in the outer region(0.2h

This paper presents design and fabrication of optimized geometry structure of electrostatic inkjet head. In order to verify effect of geometry shape, we simulate electric field intensity according to the head structure. The electric field strength increases linearly with increasing height of the micro nozzle. As the nozzle diameter decreases, the electric field along the periphery of the meniscus can be more concentrated. We design and fabricate the electrostatic inkjet heads, hole type and pole type, with optimized structure. It was fabricated using thick-thermal oxidation and silicon micromachining technique such as the deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and chemical wet etching process. It is verified experimentally that the use of the MEMS inkjet head allows a stable and sustainable micro-dripping mode of droplet ejection. A stable micro dripping mode of ejection is observed under the voltages 2.5 kV and droplet diameter is $10\;{\mu}m$.

The effect of $MoS_2$ and graphite content on wear resistance and mechanical properties of Cu/Sn bonded diamond micro blades was comparatively investigated in terms of volume and weight fraction. For the evaluation of endurance and cutting performance, instantaneous electric power consumption and cumulative wear loss during cutting glass work piece at constant velocity were measured with the micro blades of the wide range of lubricant content. The energy consumption of blades for glass cutting decreased with the content of lubricants. Wear amount of blade in volume increased with the amount of lubricant addition. It was found to be relevant to the decrease in flexural strength and hardness with the amount of lubricants. With the same amount of lubricant content in volume fraction $MoS_2$ showed superiority in mechanical properties and cutting performance than graphite while graphite could result in stronger effect on lowering electric consumption during cutting work piece for the same weight percent fraction than $MoS_2$ because of lower density.
