  • In this paper, ultrasonic wave in the thermoelastic regime was generated in a steel disk by illuminating a pulse laser (Q-switched Nd:YAG) on the surface of the sample and was detected on the other side by Michelson interferometer which was stabilized by feed back control. The experimentally detected displacement waveform of the ultrasonic wave showed good agreement with the theoretically expected one. Also it was shown that sound speeds of longitudinal and shear wave were similar to ones measured by pulse-echo method using a contact transducer. As an application of the noncontact ultrasonic measurement by using laser based ultrasonics, the sound speed in the sample was monitored while the sample was heated in a furnace, and the result showed that it decreased according to the increase of sample temperature.

  • Currently, as Plasma application is expanded to the industrial and medical industrial, low temperature plasma applications became important. Especially in medical and biology, many researchers have studied about generated radical species in atmospheric pressure low temperature plasma directly adapted to human body. Therefore, so measurement their plasma parameter is very important work and is widely studied all around world. One of the plasma parameters is electron density and it is closely relative to radical production through the plasma source. some kinds of method to measuring the electron density are Thomson scattering spectroscopy and Millimeter-wave transmission measurement. But most methods have very expensive cost and complex configuration to composed of experiment system. We selected Michelson interferometer system which is very cheap and simple to setting up, so we tried to measuring electron density by laser interferometer with laser beam chopping module for measurement of temporal phase difference in plasma jet. To measuring electron density at atmospheric pressure Ar plasma jet, we obtained the temporal phase shift signal of interferometer. Phase difference of interferometer can occur because of change by refractive index of electron density in plasma jet. The electron density was able to estimate with this phase difference values by using physical formula about refractive index change of external electromagnetic wave in plasma. Our guiding laser used Helium-Neon laser of the centered wavelength of 632 nm. We installed chopper module which can make a 4kHz pulse laser signal at the laser front side. In this experiment, we obtained more exact synchronized phase difference between with and without plasma jet than reported data at last year. Especially, we found the phase difference between time range of discharge current. Electron density is changed from Townsend discharge's electron bombardment, so we observed the phase difference phenomenon and calculated the temporal electron density by using phase shift. In our result, we suggest that the electron density have approximately range between 1014~ 1015 cm-3 in atmospheric pressure Ar plasma jet.

  • A wireless optical fiber interferometer arterial pulse wave sensor system is developed for remote sensing. The wireless optical fiber sensor system consists of Zigbee communication modules and an optical fiber interferometer arterial pulse wave sensor. The optical fiber arterial pulse wave sensor is an in-line Michelson interferometer enclosed with steel reinforcement in a heat-shrinkable tube. The Zigbee communication modules are composed of an ATmega128L microprocessor and a CC2420 Zigbee chip. The arterial pulse waves detected by the optical fiber sensor were transmitted and received via the Zigbee communication modules. The experimental results show that the wireless optical fiber sensor system can be used for monitoring the arterial pulse waves remotely.

  • Basically, OCT use the interference effect of Michelson interferometer. The receiver noise of interferometer is a important fact to improve the system performance. To improve the system performance for high resolution image processing, we design a interferometer topology adding the attenuator to the reference arm. In this paper, we design the receiver noise parameter and computer simulation. In this results, SNR of the new topology system is improved 5dB compare to standard interferometer.

  • The investigation of the space environment requires the use of experimental and theoretical tools and resources in order to perform the research task. Understanding of these research tools is imperative for proper interpretation of the results. In this paper, we discuss on research tools that are widely used in the field of aeronomy; Fabry-Perot interferometer and Michelson interferometer. These instruments have been used extensively as passive optical devices, spectrally monitoring the natural atmospheric emissions (airglow). This function has made both instruments valuable tools in upper atmospheric studies since they provide the ability to determine the dynamic and thermodynamic properties of the upper atmosphere by monitoring naturally-occuring emission.

  • 3-dimension object's feature measurement is used several industrial field to produce for examination of demanded high quality products by using optical measurement method. 3-dimension object's feature measurement is separated surface scanning and surface non-scanning. In this research, we illuminated interfero-pattern to object, it was constructed with Michelson interferometer by using laser is one of surface non-scanning method. And we extracted phase-map, it is one of featural measurement analysis of 3-dimensional object by using a phase shifting theory.
