Recycling is receiving increasing social attention today as our nation begins to grapple with the significant problems caused by huge amount of municipal solid waste. The topic of recycling is not simple but extremely complicated. This study attempts to provide basic data and policy options for expanding and improving separated collection and recycling in public residential areas, through three case study of apartment housing areas in Taegu Metropolitan City. The main results of this study are summarized as follows. For the significant period of time, all three case areas had in common the extreme difficulty in establishing and operating the system of connecting public participation, collection and storage, transportation, and actual recycling of materials because of a variety of problems involved in this process. Both amounts of and prices for collected materials fluctuated considerably over time mainly due to monthly changes in recyclable home materials and the dynamic nature of recycling markets. Public questionnaire survey revealed the very high level of participation in separated collection, not only because almost all respondents well understood the necessity and importance of recycling, but because they also knew how to do separated collection. But overall activities were rated low and most respondents suggested the enlargement of public participation, the improvement of collection and storage facilities, and collection transportation networks. In particular, most respondents had little experience of using recycled Products and used mainly reproduced soap and bathroom tissue. Furthermore, they were considerably unsatisfied with low variety and quality of recycled products, their high prices and low availability in the market. Finally potential policy options and activities for improving separated collection and recycling are suggested.
The purpose of this study was to examine the curricula for mathematically gifted focused on contents and graded sequences of those. Three cases of the curricula for the mathematically gifted including teachers' lesson plans and activity sheets for students were collected from gifted education institutes attached the Metropolitan Office of Education. By qualitative analysis, three cases are compared. The first, in a view of educational contents on mathematics, characteristics of the educational programs were investigated. The second, how these contents were arranged according to grades was inquired. On the basis of the results, further studies can be proposed as follows. First, there is a need to study the criteria for setting the educational contents and the sequences of education for the mathematically gifted connecting elementary mathematics education curricula. Second, it is necessary to form the networks in which can allow communication among teachers and researchers for the mathematically gifted.
The necessity of compact high temperature super conducting cables is more keenly felt in densely populated metropolitan areas. As the compact high temperature superconducting cables that can be installed in ducts and tunnels can reduce construction cost and make the use of underground space more effective, the effect of introducing it to power system will be huge. For this study, Seoul, Korea is selected as a review model, the loads are estimated by scenario based on a survey and analysis of 345kV and 154kV power supply networks in this area. Based on this, the following items on urban transmission system are examined. (1) A method of constructing a model system to introduce high temperature superconducting cables to metropolitan areas is presented. (2) A case study through the analysis of power demand is conducted, and the amount of high temperature superconducting cable to be introduced by scenario is examined. (3) The economy involved in expanding existing cables and introducing high temperature superconducting cables(ducts or tunnels) following load increase in urban areas is examined and compared. (4) The maximum external diameter of HTS cable to accommodate exiting ducts based on the design standards for current cable ducts is calculated. (5) The voltage level that can be accommodated by existing ducts is examined.
This paper reviews the current local logistics policy of the Incheon Metropolitan City and prioritizes policy agenda based on fuzzy AHP and IPA (Importance Performance Analysis). The analysis recommends that the city needs to keep up the current good works at the policy agenda such as early expansion of the international logistics hub and improvement of the provincial highway network.The policy agenda including the logistics parks, the transport networks and the hinterland activities are evaluated as overkilled agenda. Revitalization of the logistics database, establishment of an integrated business support center, modal shift, and public logistics support were classified as low-priority policy agenda. The policy agenda of urgent concentration includes development of new logistics business and air cargo industry.

The purpose of this study is to investigate spacio-temporal structures of traffic flows on the subway network in the Metropolitan Seoul, and the relationships between topological structures of traffic flows and land use patterns. In particular we analyze in the topological structures of traffic flows on the subway network in time dimension as well as in spatial dimension. For the purpose, this study utilizes data mining techniques to the one day T-card transaction data of the last four years, which has developed for exploring the characteristics of traffic flows from large scale trip-transaction databases. The topological structures of traffic flows on the subway network has changed considerably during the last four years. The volumes of traffic flows, the travel time and stops per trip have increased until 2006 and decreased again in 2007. The results are visualized by utilizing GIS and analyzed, and thus the spatial patterns of traffic flows are analyzed. The spatial distribution patterns of trip origins and destinations show substantial differences among time zones during a day. We analyze the relationships between traffic flows at subway stops and the geographical variables reflecting land use around them. We obtain 6 log-linear functions from stepwise multiple regression analysis. We test multicollinearity among the variables and autocollelation for the residuals.

The damage caused by Recent frequently occurring locality torrential rains is increasing rapidly. In case of densely populated metropolitan area, casualties and property damage is a serious due to landslides and debris flows and floods. Therefore, the importance of predictions about the torrential is increasing. Precipitation characteristic of the bad weather in Korea is divided into typhoons and torrential rains. This seems to vary depending on the duration and area. Rainfall is difficult to predict because regional precipitation is large volatility and nonlinear. In this paper, Very short-term precipitation forecasting pattern model is implemented using KLAPS data used by Korea Meteorological Administration. we designed very short term precipitation forecasting pattern model using GA-based RBFNNs. the structural and parametric values such as the number of Inputs, polynomial type,number of fcm cluster, and fuzzification coefficient are optimized by GA optimization algorithm.

The construction of Daedeok Science Town, located in Yuseong ward of Daejeon metropolitan city, began in the early 1970s. It started out as a national project to form an agglomeration of the major central government research institutions. Since that time Daedeok Science Town has also attracted private research institutions, mainly during the 1900s. This study geographically analyzes this research institutions to clarify the regional identity of Daedeok Science Town through an integrated approach of existing new regional geography approach, which is characteristics of labour market as the regional pattern of its laborers' residences, spatial labour division, its research network with other institutions, and networks of university, research institution, and corporations, through the spatial spread of intellectual right of property and through network of technology business incubator relationship with spin offs which is appeared to spatial interaction. The results of the study are as follows: First of all, Daedeok Science Town was not only self-sustenance with marketing garden of agricultural regions in the suburb of Daejeon city but also was consign of agricultural products to Daejeon city before 1972. Since that time, the identity of Daedeok Science town has been formed by externally factors of the science development, by the local decentralization of population and public offices in Seoul metropolitan area in terms of the world economy system, and by the internally accessibility maximization of the central location in Korea between 1992 and 1999. On the part of Daedeok Science Town it has some merits of in-migration from nation-wide, and of mother city's Daejeon. Lastly at the period of the venture business beginning after 1999, the role of institution, developing the existing high technology, made great contribution to an attraction of ventures business to here in need of high technology industry growth, including knowledge-based industry in the informated society. On these bases, Daedeok Science Town seems to grow spontaneously as a science park.

This study is to analyze the adoption of environmentally friendly fanning(EFF) by Actor-Network Theory(ANT). ANT declares that the world is full of hybrid entities containing both human and non-human elements and maintains that adoption of an innovation comes as a consequence of the action of everyone in the chain of actors who has anything to do with it. In this study, adoption of EFF will be analysed through the role of actors and networks. And this paper try to identify the intermediaries and obligatory passage point(OPP) in each networks. In study area, 5 actors, -nature, governmental institute, food processors, consumers and farmers-, have each roles in their networks, But only 18 farmers adopted EFF. This study revealed that three OPPs were not overcome in each network. The one is nature, such as water and soil pollution. Another is shortage of reliability between farmers and governmental institute. The other is shortage of information about agricultural commodity trade. And through this application of ANT to the EFF, we contend that ANT can be useful for studies of diffusion of EFF and sustainability of rural systems in situations where interactions of the social, technological and political are regarded as particularly important.

This study aims to suggest analysis schemes of urban forests acting as wind ventilation corridor(wind ventilation forest). For this purpose, wind corridor forests were classified into three types: wind-generating forests(WGF), wind-spreading forests (WSF), and wind-connecting forests(WCF), and they were classified into three grades. WGF, WSF and WCF were classified based on the density of forest type map, vegetation index, and ventilation networks, respectively. As a result of analyzing wind corridor forests for Daegu Metropolitan City(883.56㎢), the area of WGF was classified as 443.1㎢ and distributed in the northern and southern regions of Daegu Metropolitan City. Among them, the first grade of WGF occupied the largest area(345.59㎢) and the highest rate(54.44%) in Dalseong-gun. On the other hand, WGF was not found in Jung-gu, because this administrative district is isolated from the forest area. WSF was 32.4㎢, which included representative urban parks of Daegu Metropolitan City, and WSF were found relatively much in Suseong-gu and Dalseong-gun. However, WSF were distributed throughout Metropolitan City, and the vegetation index was not high. The ventilation network that can form WCF included major rivers and roads in Daegu Metropolitan City, but this network was not connected to the urban park from the outer forest. Therefore, it was judged that the formation of WCF connecting WGF outside the city and WSF inside the city would be important. The results of this study can be used as a basic data for systematic wind corridor forest projects, and can be used as basic data for establishing guidelines for wind corridor forest analysis at national and local levels.
Recognition for the importance and roles of public transportation is increasing because of traffic problems in many cities. In spite of this paradigm change, previous researches related with public transportation trip assignment have limits in some aspects. Especially, in case of multimodal public transportation networks, many characters should be considered such as transfers. operational time schedules, waiting time and travel cost. After metropolitan integrated transfer discount system was carried out, transfer trips are increasing among traffic modes and this takes the variation of users' route choices. Moreover, the advent of high-technology public transportation card called smart card, public transportation users' travel information can be recorded automatically and this gives many researchers new analytical methodology for multimodal public transportation networks. In this paper, it is suggested that the methodology for establishment of brand new multimodal public transportation networks based on computer programming methods using transportation card data. First, we propose the building method of integrated transportation networks based on bus and urban railroad stations in order to make full use of travel information from transportation card data. Second, it is offered how to connect the broken transfer links by computer-based programming techniques. This is very helpful to solve the transfer problems that existing transportation networks have. Lastly, we give the methodology for users' paths finding and network establishment among multi-modes in multimodal public transportation networks. By using proposed methodology in this research, it becomes easy to build multimodal public transportation networks with existing bus and urban railroad station coordinates. Also, without extra works including transfer links connection, it is possible to make large-scaled multimodal public transportation networks. In the end, this study can contribute to solve users' paths finding problem among multi-modes which is regarded as an unsolved issue in existing transportation networks.
