This study is to determine the penetration of various medicaments such as Howe's ammoniacal silver nitrate and methyleneblue, to root canal dentin within given time (5,10,30 sec.) Followings are the results obtained from this study. 1) The dye stuff is more deeply penetrated according to the time elapsed. 2) According to the increase of age, the penetration ratio is decreased accordingly. 3) The penetration ratio of Howe's ammoniacal silver nitrate is higher than that of methyleneblue. 4) The permeability of the root canal dentin is gradually reduced as access to the apex.
The objective of this research is to develop the technique for carbonization of wood pellet and analyze a possibility for the utilization of carbonized wood pellet. The properties of wood pellet charcoals, such as density, yield, elemental composition, higher heating value, and methyleneblue adsorption, were analyzed. Wood pellet was made of sawdust of Hyunsasi-poplar, Japanese larch, Korean pine, Korean red pine, and Jolcharn-oak (serrate oak), respectively. The high density charcoal ($0.5{\sim}0.7g/cm^3$) was yielded from densified wood pellet. The carbon contents and calorific values of wood pellet charcoals were increased with the increase of carbonization temperature. The methyleneblue adsorptivity of wood pellet charcoal was similar to that of wood charcoal.

Visible-light-responding photocatalysts, $N-TiO_2$, were prepared by nitrogen doping onto $TiO_2$. The crystalline structure and morphology, doping state of the prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, and XPS. The activity of the prepared photocatalysts was examined by the decomposition of methyleneblue. The prepared catalysts were anatase type and the crystallinity was increased with pH. The particle sizes of the prepared catalysts were 5.42, 5.99, 7.58 nm at pH 2.2, 4.7, 9.0, respectively. The particle sizes of the prepared catalysts were slightly increased with pH. The activity of the photocatalysts was directly proportional to the crystallinity of the catalysts. $N-TiO_2$ prepared by nitrogen doping onto $TiO_2$ showed activity under visible light. The doped nitrogen was located not in the lattice but on the surface.
The photocatalytic decolorization and photodegradation of wastewater contamininated with dyes such as methyleneblue tetrahydrate(MBT), methyl orange(MO), phenol red(PR) and the mixed dyes have been studied using a batch reactor in the presence of aerotropic and titania. Degussa P25 titanium oxide was used as the photocatalyst and proved to be effective for the dyes-degradation when irradiated with UV-light source emitting the wavelength of 253.7 nm in the presence of air. In addition to removing the color from the wastewater, the photocatalytic reaction simultaneously reduced the COD and optical density which suggests that the dissolved organic compounds have been photooxidized. The reaction rate of disappearance of the dyes were measured as a function of the irradiation times. The photooxidative procedure of the aquatic solution have the first order reaction-kinetics. The rate constants were increased in the order of PR < MBT < $gL^{-1}-TiO_2$ powder were irradiated with the UV -light source.

Among the semiconducting materials, ZnO has considerably attracted attention over the past few years due to the high activities in removing organic contaminants created from industry. In this work, ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by spray pyrolysis method using the zinc acetate dihydrate as starting material at various synthesis temperatures. The structures of the synthesized ZnO were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Brunauer, Emmett & Teller (BET), Fourier Transformation Infrared (FT-IR), and UV-vis spectroscopy. The Miller indices of XRD patterns indicate that the synthesized ZnO nanoparticles showed a hexagonal wurtzite structure. With increasing synthesis temperature, the mean diameter of ZnO nanoparticles increased, and their crystallinity was improved. Also, the photocatalytic activity of ZnO was studied by the photocatalytic degradation of methyleneblue (MB) under UV irradiation (365 nm) at room temperature. The results show that the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO nanoparticles was enhanced by increasing synthesis temperature.
This study was investigated to compare the staining resistance of soft denture liners. Specimens were made of Coe-soft, Coe-comfort, Soft-liner, Visco-gel, and were stored in 1% methyleneblue solution for 24 hours. The amounts of color change before and after treatment with mono-poly and thermocycling were measured by colorimeter(TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co. Ltd, Japan) for evaluation of staining resistance. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. 1. The staining resistance of Visco-gel was increased, but there was no changes of staining resistance in Coe-soft, Coe-comfort, and Soft-liner after treatment with monopoly. 2. The staining resistance of the Coe-comfort was the least in all soft denture liners. 3. The staining resistance of Visco-gel and Soft-liner were decreased after thermocycling.

The phenomenon of water tree degradation of underground distribution power cables is taking place in polymeric insulation materials under the existence of water and application of electric stress, but water tree is not easy to observe, o water tree features in power cables are shown after cutting and dying with methyleneblue. In previous method, it is impossible to acquire continuous treeing data, and when the insulation material has been cut, the micro crack(water tree) has been damaged. In this paper, to overcome these deflects, the etching method is made use of making needle electrode about 170[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] diameter, and AgNO$_3$(silver nitrate) solution is used as liquid electrode to accelerate the growth of water trees. As a result of this study, water tree is observed in real-time with microscope. Electrical tree owing to water treeing is initiated at low electric field and grown with discontinuous. Namely, water tree is shown up a different characteristics of tree growth.

Thin film of $TiO_2$ deposited on carbon paper was fabricated by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) and $H_2O$ as precursors. In this work, the photocatalytic activities of $TiO_2$ films with and without e-beam treatment were compared. The samples were treated by e-beam using e-beam energy of 1MeV and exposure range between 5 and 15kGy. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photocatalytic degradation of methyleneblue (MB) under UV irradiation (365nm) at room temperature using an UV-vis spectroscopy. The surface properties were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The sample treated by the low radiation dose has more catalytic activity than other ones. SEM images show that the high radiation dose caused the $TiO_2$ to aggregation on carbon paper. Due to the aggregation of $TiO_2$, the partially exposed carbon paper was oxidized.
Objective: The aim of this study is to elucidate the effects of transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ (TGF-${\beta}$)1 and L-ascorbic acid on proteoglycan synthesis, and the relationship between Sox9, proteoglycan, and TGF-${\beta}1$ in intervertebral disc cells. Methods: Human intervertebral disc tissue was sequentially digested to 0.2% pronase and 0.025% collagenase in DMEM/F-12 media and extracted cells were cultured in $37^{\circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$ incubator. When intervertebral disc cells were cultured with TGF-${\beta}1$ or L-ascorbic acid, the production level of sulfated glycosaminoglycan (sGAG) was estimated by dimethyl methyleneblue (DMMB) assay. The changes of Sox9 mRNA and protein levels via TGF-${\beta}1$ were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis in each. Results: The amount of sGAG was increased with the lapse of time during incubation, and sGAG content of pellet cultured cells was much larger than monolayer culture. When primary cultured intervertebral disc cells in monolayer and pellet cultures were treated by TGF-${\beta}1$ 20 ng, sGAG content of experimental group was increased significantly compared to control group in both cultures. L-Ascorbic acid of serial concentrations (50-300 ug/ml) increased sGAG content of mono layer cultured intervertebral disc cells significantly in statistics. The co-treatment of TGF-${\beta}1$ and L-ascorbic acid increased more sGAG production than respective treatment. After treating with TGF-${\beta}1$, Sox9 mRNA and protein expression rates were significantly increased in disc cells compared with the control group. Conclusion: This study suggests that TGF-${\beta}1$ would increase sulfated glycosaminoglycan (sGAG) and other proteoglycans such as versican by elevating Sox9 mRNA and protein expressions in order.
The objective of this research is to analyze a possibility for the utilization of carbonized bark and develop the technique for carbonization of bark for using as the adsorbent, the soil improvement agent, the carrier for microbial activity, health products, and so on. The properties of bark charcoals such as methylenehlue adsorption (MBA), equilibrium moisture content (EMC), far infra rad emissivity, pH, water retention and caloric value were analyzed. The MBA values of bark charcoals carbonized for 8 hr of carbonization time at $800^{\circ}C$ of carbonization temperature for Larix leptolepis, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida were greater than 110 mg/g. The bark charcoals pH values of all three species that were carbonized for 4 hr of carbonization time at $400^{\circ}C$ of carbonization temperature was 6.6 and carbonized for 4 hr at 600 and $800^{\circ}C$ was about 9. Therefore the bark charcoals of those species could be used as charcoals if the carbonization temperature and time were controlled.
