The performance of transmission lines and its shielding design during a lightning phenomenon are quite essential in the maintenance of a reliable power supply to consumers. The leader progression model, as an advanced approach, has been recently developed to calculate the shielding failure rate (SFR) of transmission lines using geometrical data and physical behavior of upward and downward lightning leaders. However, such method is quite time consuming. In the present paper, an effective method that utilizes artificial neural networks (ANNs) to create a metamodel for calculating the SFR of a transmission line based on shielding angle and height is introduced. The results of investigations on a real case study reveal that, through proper selection of an ANN structure and good training, the ANN prediction is very close to the result of the detailed simulation, whereas the Processing time is by far lower than that of the detailed model.
In this paper, we study the reduction of the Dynamic False Contour in a new driving method. This method divides scan lines into Multi Blocks, and drives both selective write and selective erase address. Because of the characteristic of proposed waveform, each scan line has a different sustain pulse weight. Therefore, the Dynamic False Contour occurs seriously in the boundary of each Block. Finally, if scan-lines tie several lines, the Dynamic False Contour can reduce in the boundary of each Block.
Image morphing deals with the metamorphosis of one image into another. The field morphing depends on the manual work for most of the process, where a user has to designate the control lines. It takes time and requires skills to have fine quality results. It is an object of this paper to propose a method capable of realizing the semi-automation of field morphing using adaptive vertex correspondence based on image segmentation. The adaptive vertex correspondence process efficiently generates a pair of control lines by adaptively selecting reference partial contours based on the number of vertices that are included in the partial contour of the source morphing object and in the partial contour of the destination morphing object, in the pair of the partial contour designated by external control points through user input. The proposed method generates visually fluid morphs and warps with an easy-to-use interface. According to the proposed method, a user can shorten the time to set control lines and even an unskilled user can obtain natural morphing results as he or she designates a small number of external control points.

This paper describes a concrete method for computing characteristic impedances and effective dielectric constants of the microstrip coupled lines without and with a dielectric overlay. The frequency-independent spectral domain method is used for the analysis of these lines. This method is a powerful, accurate, and numerically efficient approach for planar transmission line structure. For designing the optimal directional coupler, the velocities of even and odd mode must be equal but velocities of these two modes are different in the conventional coupled line which is inhomogeneous. The results show that these two velocities can be almost same according to variations of structural and material parameters in terms of the overlay(superstrate).
Electric transmission towers are facilities to transport electrical power from a plant to an electrical substation. The towers are connected using power lines that are installed with a proper sag by loosening the cable to lower the tension and to secure the sufficient clearance from the ground or nearby objects. The power line sag may extend over the tolerance due to the weather such as strong winds, temperature changes, and a heavy snowfall. Therefore the periodical mapping of the power lines is required but the poor accessibility to the power lines limit the work because most power lines are placed at the mountain area. In addition, the manual mapping of the power lines is also time-consuming either using the terrestrial surveying or the aerial surveying. Therefore we utilized multiple overlapping images acquired from a low-cost drone to automatically reconstruct the power lines in the object space. Two overlapping images are selected for epipolar image resampling, followed by the line extraction for the resampled images and the redundant images. The extracted lines from the epipolar images are matched together and reconstructed for the power lines primitive that are noisy because of the multiple line matches. They are filtered using the extracted line information from the redundant images for final power lines points. The experiment result showed that the proposed method successfully generated parabolic curves of power lines by interpolating the power lines points though the line extraction and reconstruction were not complete in some part due to the lack of the image contrast.
This study intends to prepare a system that can be used, by applying digital technique, in analyzing complexity of architectural forms that have been visualized by the correlation based on the distribution chart made in accordance with profile lines. The profile lines are derived from the edge analysis of the architectural forms, simplified based on the visual theory. For the purpose, this study was conducted in the following ways: First, problems of the existing models for the elevation analysis were examined along with formal analysis based on visual recognition to consider the profile lines derived from the forms. Secondly, in elevation analysis, profile lines were derived by digital method to measure them qualitatively. To verify the objectivity of the measured data value, a survey was conducted based on the adjective cataloging method, and the correlation of the survey result and analyzed data was analyzed to verify the validity of the derived data. Thirdly, supplementation for the problems deducted from experiments and the possibility to use it in designing were suggested. Digital method has many advantages over the conventional analyzing system in deriving precise data value by excluding subjectivity. It also allows various analytical methods in analyzing numerous data repeatedly. Diversified models and methods of analysis considering numerous factors arising in the process of designing remain assignments to research in future.
A new measurement method of coupled transmission line characteristics is described. This method presents precision values of even-and odd-mode impedances as well as effective dielectric constants of symmetric parallel coupled microstrip lines from the scalar quantities obtained by transmission coefficients at two different resonance frequencies. Especially these values include dispersion effects in the measured frequency band. The measured impedances and effective dielectric constants of actually fabricated coupled lines on the Teflon substrates with low dielectric constants are good agreement with predicted values. And the experimental pass band characteristics of single section resonator by using previously designed coupled lines agree well with theoretical values.
After determining the type and string condition of conductor of 765kV transmission lines, we studied the mechanical strength system of insulator strings to support conductors and insulate conductors from towers. In this paper, for the insulator strings which will be used in 765kV transmission lines, we're going to optimally determine the mechanical strength system and supporting method in the consideration of the reliability, economics and the survey data of T/L routes, and also suggest the calculation method to stipulate for the application limits of suspension and strain insulator strings according to the loadspan and height difference of tower.
Streamlines around a ship's hull can be calculated by using streamline tracing method replacing the ship section with distribution of singularity. The influence of frame lines on the stream surrounding a hull surface, however, can not be found. Jinnaka studied on streamlines for Lewis form by applying the slender body theory. The influence of frame lines on stream surrounding a hull surface is well found in Jinnaka's method. In this paper streamline calculation method for chine type has been developed by using conformal transformation and applying slender body theory as Jinnaka did. Three kinds of model-one of series 62 for chine type, V.L.C.C. and high speed craft built in Korea for Lewis form-were used for streamline calculation;
A method for computing the capacitance and inductance matrix for 2-D multiconductor transmission lines with arbitrary cross section in dielectric medium is presented. The integral equation is obtained by using a free space Green function in conjunction with free and bound charges existing on boundary surfaces. The numerical analysis is based on the moment method using point matching and Galerkin method. And kthe scheme to reduce memory and computation time is presented for symmetric structure.
