Water Sorption/Desorption Characteristics of Eutectic LiCl-KCl Salt-Occluded Zeolites

  • Molten salt consisting primarily of eutectic LiCl-KCl is currently being used in electrorefiners in the Fuel Conditioning Facility at Idaho National Laboratory. Options are currently being evaluated for storing this salt outside of the argon atmosphere hot cell. The hygroscopic nature of eutectic LiCl-KCl makes is susceptible to deliquescence in air followed by extreme corrosion of metallic cannisters. In this study, the effect of occluding the salt into a zeolite on water sorption/desorption was tested. Two zeolites were investigated: Na-Y and zeolite 4A. Na-Y was ineffective at occluding a high percentage of the salt at either 10 or 20wt% loading. Zeolite-4A was effective at occluding the salt with high efficiency at both loading levels. Weight gain in salt occluded zeolite-4A (SOZ) from water sorption at 20% relative humidity and 40℃ was 17wt% for 10% SOZ and 10wt% for 20% SOZ. In both cases, neither deliquescence nor corrosion occurred over a period of 31 days. After hydration, most of the water could be driven off by heating the hydrated salt occluded zeolite to 530℃. However, some HCl forms during dehydration due to salt hydrolysis. Over a wide range of temperatures (320-700℃) and ramp rates (5, 10, and 20℃ min-1), HCl formation was no more than 0.6% of the Cl- in the original salt.

  • The coated metallic bipolar plates are getting attractive due to their good feasibility of mass production, low contact resistance, high electrical/thermal conductivity, low gas permeability and good mechanical strength comparing with graphite materials. Yet, metallic bipolar plates for polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM) fuel cells typically require coatings for corrosion protection. Other requirements for the corrosion protective coatings include low electrical contact resistance between metallic bipolar plate and gas diffusion layer, good mechanical robustness, low mechanical and fabrication cost. The authors have evaluated a number of protective coatings deposited on stainless steel substrate by electroplating. The coated metallic bipolar plates are investigated with an electrochemical polarization tests, salt dipping tests, adhesion tests for corrosion resistance and then the contact resistance was measured. The results showed that the selective samples electroplated with optimized method, satisfied the DOE target for corrosion resistance and contact resistance, and also were very stabilized in the typical fuel cell environments in the long-term.

녹제거 폴리머겔의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Properties of Rust-Removing Polymer Gel)

  • The formation of rust on metallic substrate is known to cause the damages and destructions of raw materials, which is one of the leading reasons of sturctural collapses and many kind of hazards in modern industry. Polymer gels with rust removing effects were compounded in this study by employing various kinds of acids like hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, gluconic acid, oxalic acid as the rust removing ingredients. TEA(Triethanolamine) as dispersant and hydrophilic chemical were used for effective gelation of acids. Also corrosion inhibitor was added to enable the coating effect and to improve rust removing effect on metallic surface. In order to investigate the rust properites on metallic substrate, artificial rusts were prepared in salt solution, using iron, copper, aluminium and brass as the base metals. The properties of gel compounds were checked by gelation, pH, viscosity, morphology property and rust removing test. Developed gel compounds in this study have a good rust removing property, showing a strong adhesion on horizontal and vertical metallic surface, and can be easily rinsed off by water.

탄소강 배관 티에서의 유동가속부식으로 인한 감육 현상 규명 (Identification on a Local Wall Thinning by Flow Acceleration Corrosion Inside Tee of Carbon Steel Pipe)

  • When pipe components made of carbon steel in nuclear, fossil, and industry plants are exposed to flowing fluid, wall thinning caused by FAC(flow accelerated corrosion) can be generated and eventually ruptured at the position of pressure boundary. The aim of this study is to identify the locations at which local wall thinning occurs and to determine the turbulence coefficient related to local wall thinning. Experiment and numerical analyses for the tee sections of down scaled piping components were performed and the results were compared. In particular, flow visualization experiment which was used alkali metallic salt was performed to find actual location of local wall thinning inside tee components. In order to determine the relationship between turbulence coefficients and local wall thinning, numerical analyses were performed for tee components in the main feedwater systems. The turbulence coefficients based on the numerical analyses were compared with the local wall thinning based on the measured data. From the comparison of the results, the vertical flow velocity component(Vr) flowing to the wall after separating in the wall due to the geometrical configuration and colliding with the wall directly at an angle of some degree was analogous to the configuration of local wall thinning.

Toluene 용액 캐스팅에 의한 차출용 전도성 Polyaniline-HIPS 블렌드 제조 (Preparation of the Conducting Polyaniline-HIPS Blends for Injection Molding by Toluene Solution Casting)

  • 화학적 산화중합에 의한 Polyaniline Emeraldine salt(PANI-salt)는 도펀트로 존재하는 HCl과 같은 양성 자산으로 인한 금속성 사출금형 부식이 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 비극성 유기용매인 톨루엔, 포펀트와 계면활성제 역할을 하는 dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid(DBSA)를 사용하여 유화 중합법으로 PANI-salt를 합성한 후, 공용매 toluene에서 PANI-salt와 high impact polystyrene(HIPS)를 다양한 비율로 solution-cast 혼합하여 PANI-HIPS 블렌드를 얻었다. PT-IR과 UV-Vis.로 PANI-salt 구조를 확인하였고, PANI-HIPS 블렌드의 모폴로지, 열적 및 전기적 특성을 확인하였다. PANI(50 mL)와 HIPS(1 g)을 혼합하여 사출온도 $103^{\circ}C$, 사출압력 120 psi 하에서 사출한 PANI-HIPS 사출품에서 가장 높은 전기전도도($6.02{\times}10^{-5}\;S/cm$)가 나타났다.

  • 국내의 가동 중지된 우라늄 변환시설의 해체 시 다량의 우라늄으로 오염되어 있는 금속성 폐기물의 재활용 또는 자체처분을 위한 제염기술로 중성염 전해액을 사용하는 전해제염 공정의 적용성을 평가하기 위하여 우라늄 변환시설 내부설비의 주 구성 재료인 SUS-304 및 Inconel-600에 대한 전기화학적 용해거동 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 중성염 전해질의 형태, 전해질의 농도, 전류밀도, 처리시간과 같은 전해제염 조건들이 금속 재료의 용해에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 모의 시편을 사용한 비방사성 전해용해 실험 결과를 근거로 실제 우라늄 변환시설로부터 인출한 $UO_2$, AUC (ammonium uranyl carbonate) 및 ADU (ammonium diuranate) 오염시편에 대해 $Na_2SO_4$$NaNO_3$ 중성염 용액에서 전해 제염실험을 수행하였으며, 오염물의 종류 및 오염 준위의 대소와는 관계없이 모든 시편에 대하여 10분 이내의 짧은 시간 내에 자체처분 기준치 이하로 $\beta$ 방사능 준위를 감소시킴으로써 본 중성염 전해제염이 매우 성공적임을 확인하였다.

  • 셀룰로오스에 공기중에서 $\gamma$-선을 조사한 후 상온에서 20일 동안 보관하여 과산화물을 형성시킨 다음, 산과 금속염 존재하에서 아크릴산과 접촉시켜 그라프트 반응을 수행할 때 금속염과 산의 첨가효과에 대하여 고찰하였다. 그라프트 반응시 산과 금속염을 그라프트 용액에 동시에 첨가하면 금속염만 첨가한 경우보다 그라프트율은 향상되었고 반응온도가 높은 경우에 높은 그라프트율을 나타내었으며 사용한 금속염중에서 $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$보다는 $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$가 그라프트 반응에 효과적이었다. 산의 종류에 따른 첨가효과는 $H_2SO_4>HCl>HNO_3>CH_3COOH$순 이었으며, 황산을 첨가한 경우 $7{\times}10^{-2}$몰 농도까지는 계속 상승하였으나 그 이상부터는 거의 변화가 없었다.

폴리프로필렌 부직포에 아크릴산의 방사선 그라프트 반응에서 금속염의 효과 (Radiation-Induced Grafting of Acrylic Acid onto Polypropylene Fabric in the Presence of Metallic Salt)

  • 동시조사법에 의한 아크릴산의 폴리프로필렌 부직포에 대한 그라프트 반응에서 조사량, 조사선량률, 금속염 및 용매가 그라프트 반응에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 같은 조사선량에서는 선량률이 낮을수록 높은 그라프트율을 나타냈다. 한편 조사선량률을 달리하여 일정 시간 동안 그라프트 반응시키면 조사선량률이 높을수록 그라프트율은 높았으며, 첨가한 금속염의 종류에 관계없이 그라프트 속도는 조사선량률의 0.74 차수에 비례하였다. 사용한 금속염 중에서 $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$가 가장 우수하였으며, 첨가제의 함량이 증가하면 할수록 그라프트율은 감소하였지만 적정농도이하에서는 그라프트용액이 고화되어 그라프트 반응시킬 수 없었다.

부산 구덕산 미세먼지의 금속성분 및 이온성분 농도 특성 (Characteristics of Metallic and Ionic Elements Concentration in PM10 at Guducsan in Busan)

  • This study investigates the characteristics of metallic and ionic elements concentration, concentration according to transport path, and factor analysis in $PM_{10}$ at Guducsan in Busan in the springtime of 2015. $PM_{10}$ concentration in Guducsan and Gwaebeopdong were $59.5{\pm}9.04{\mu}g/m^3$ and $87.5{\pm}20.2{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. Contribution rate of water-soluble ions and secondary ion in $PM_{10}$ concentration in Guducsan were 37.0% and 27.8% respectively. [$NO_3{^-}/SO{_4}^{2-}$] ratio and contribution rate of sea salt of $PM_{10}$ in Guducsan and Gwaebeopdong were 0.91 and 1.12, 7.0% and 5.3%, respectively. The results of the backward trajectory analysis indicates that $PM_{10}$ concentration, total inorganic water-soluble ions and total secondary ions were high when the air parcels moved from Sandong region in China than non-Sandong and northen China to Busan area. The results of the factor analysis at Guducsan indicates that factor 1 was anthropogenic source effects such as automobile emissions and industrial combustion processes, factor 2 was marine sources such as sea salts from sea, and factor 3 was soil component sources.
