This research was performed to evaluate heavy metal leaching characteristics of the sludge from paper mill process with sintering temperature. Heavy metal leaching of the sludge was characterized with Korean Leaching Test and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure. The test sludge was composed of 70.72% of moisture, 9.5% of volatile solids and 9.76% of fixed solids. As a result of XRF analysis, Fe was the highest inorganic element in approximately 83%, which implies the recycling possibility of the sludge in reuse of Fenton chemicals and artificial lightweight aggregate. Leaching of heavy metals from sintered sludge was lower than the dry ones. However, there was no significant difference in leaching characteristics between the sludges sintered at $350^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$. Zn and Fe were leached more greatly in TCLP and KLT methods respectively.

This paper was investigated degradation of the fracture toughness caused by sensitizing heat-treatment of the cryogenic structural material JN1 base metal using unloading compliance method reported as useful a method in evaluating the elastic-plastic fracture toughness at cryogenic temperature. The specimens used in this paper were 20% side-grooved 0.5T-CT specimens which were machined in the JN1 base metal. Also, to investigate cryogenic fracture toughness of the fusion line region in the JN1 GTA weldments, it was also used 20% side-grooved 0.5T-CT specimens that was machined fusion line to located in the middle of the specimen. The cryogenic fracture toughness values of the JN1 base metal were significantly decreased with increasing the time and temperature of the heat treatment. The fracture toughness value obtained from the fusion line specimen was invalid, but it was lower value than that of the JN1 base metal. Especially, this value was approximately equal with that obtained from the JN1 650.deg. C-5h heat-treated material.

In this paper, we investigated the fusing current of carbon fiber and thermal properties of carbon fiber and metal shielded cable due to over-current. The fusing current value for the metal-coated carbon fiber was 5.3A in 3K, 7.4K and 13.05A in 12K. And if it exceeds 50% of the fusing current was broken with a rapid voltage rise. In the case of carbon fiber shielded cable, the temperature of the PVC sheath increased somewhat in the allowable current range. However, the temperature of PVC sheath rapidly increased to $128.1^{\circ}C$ in the 2 time allowable current range. This value is $10^{\circ}C$ higher than the temperature of PVC sheath on the metal screen cable, because the resistance of the carbon fiber is high and heat transfer rate is slow.
Highly active and stable nano-sized Ni catalysts supported on MgO-$Al_2O_3$ calcined from hydrotalcite-like materials have been successfully developed with a strong metal to support interaction (SMSI) to enhance the coke resistance in combined $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$ (CSCRM) for syngas ($H_2$/CO=2) production. The change of the surface area and NiO crystallite size with varying the pre-calcination temperature of support and Mgo content was investigated in relation to the coke resistance. As increasing the pre-calcination temperature, the surface area decreases and the metal to support interaction becomes weak. As a consequence, the coke deposition was more severe on catalysts pre-calcined at high temperature. It was concluded that highly dispersed Ni metal in the surface of Ni/MgO-$Al_2O_3$ catalyst (MgO=30 wt%) pre-calcined at $800^{\circ}C$ had a strong metal to support interaction (SMSI) resulting in an increase of coke resistance and high activity.
Thermal behavior of high capacity Nickel/Metal hybride battery in analyzed using the NISA software which is based on the three dimensional finite element method. Differential energy balance equation is used for the conduction heat transfer of the battery, while convective heat transfer equation is used for the interface between the battery and air. Heat generation rate and convective heat transfer coefficient are tested as variables to investigate thermal behavior, and the generalized equation for maximum temperature inside the battery is developed. The abrupt rise of the battery temperature due to the quick charge or discharge can be prevented from the use of metallic cooling fin. In addition, temperature augmentation of the battery is negligible when the low thermal conductive and thin insulating material is used outside of the battery case.
Pt-Ru and Pt-Ni bimetallic catalysts were prepared and tested for heavy hydrocarbon reforming. Metals were supported on CGO($Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{2.0-x}$) by incipient wetness method. The prepared catalysts were characterized by Temperature programmed reduction(TPR). Oxidative steam reforming of n-dodecane was conducted to compare the activity of the catalysts. The reforming temperature was varied from $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ at fixed $O_2$/C of 0.3, $H_2O$/C of 3.0 and GHSV of 5,000/h.Reduction peaks of metal oxide, surface CGO and bulk CGO were detected. Reduction temperature of metal oxide decreased over the bi-metallic catalysts. It is considered that interaction between metals leads to decrease interaction between metal and oxygen. On the other hands, reduction temperatures of surface CGO were dectected in the order of Pt-Ru > Pt-Ni > Pt. low reduction temperatures of surface CGO indicates the low activation energy for oxygen ion conduction to metal. Oxygen ion conduction is known as de-coking mechanism of ionic conducting supports such as CGO. In activity test, fuel conversion was in the same order of Pt-Ru > Pt-Ni > Pt. Especially, 100% of fuel conversion was obtained over Pt-Ru catalysts at $500^{\circ}C$.
A specimen of weld metal was prepared by GTA welding with weld wire of super duplex stainless steel. Aging treatment was conducted for the sample at the temperature range of 700 to $900^{\circ}C$ for 5 to 300 minutes. The effect of aging temperature and time to pitting corrosion of weld metal has been investigated and the results were derived as follows. The volume fraction of ${\sigma}$ phase tends to increase with an increase of aging temperature and time. Pitting potential Ep representing pitting corrosion was found to tend to decrease with an increase of aging time at 700 to $900^{\circ}C$. And most of the pits formed near the ${\sigma}$-phase in the ferrite and seemed to propagated to austenite.
A highly reliable conductive adhesive obtained by transient liquid-phase sintering (TLPS) technologies is studied for use in high-power device packaging. TLPS involves the low-temperature reaction of a low-melting metal or alloy with a high-melting metal or alloy to form a reacted metal matrix. For a TLPS material (consisting of Ag-coated Cu, a Sn96.5-Ag3.0-Cu0.5 solder, and a volatile fluxing resin) used herein, the melting temperature of the metal matrix exceeds the bonding temperature. After bonding of the TLPS material, a unique melting peak of TLPS is observed at 356 ℃, consistent with the transient behavior of Ag3Sn + Cu6Sn5 → liquid + Cu3Sn reported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The TLPS material shows superior thermal conductivity as compared with other commercially available Ag pastes under the same specimen preparation conditions. In conclusion, the TLPS material can be a promising candidate for a highly reliable conductive adhesive in power device packaging because remelting of the SAC305 solder, which is widely used in conventional power modules, is not observed.
This study evaluated the effect of degassing on the ceramic bond strength of two Ni-Cr alloys under varying holding time at the upper limit temperature and atmospheric conditions. Metal specimens were divided into 5 groups for each alloy according to degassing conditions prior to porcelain application no degassing, degassing under vacuum without hold, degassing under vacuum with hold for 5 min. and 10 min. respectively at the upper limit temperature and degassing in air. Total number of metal ceramic specimens was eighty and each group had eight specimens. The ceramic bond strength was measured by four-point flexural test using Instron and the fractured surface was examined under SEM. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Degassing in air improved the ceramic bond strength of Ni-Cr alloys. 2. In degassing under vacuum, hold at the upper limit temperature was advantageous to the ceramic bonding of Ni-Cr alloys. 3. After ceramic metal bond test, metal surfaces were partially covered with the thin porcelain layer, and the cohesive failures in porcelain were predominant in groups showing higher ceramic bond strength.
