Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Hemispherical Pool with Volumetric Heat Sources (체적 열원이 내재된 반구에서의 자연대류 열전달)

  • The core melts stratifies into lower mixture layer and upper metal layer by density in a severe accident condition. The decay heat generated from the mixture layer threatens the integrity of the reactor vessel. This study simulated the natural convection heat transfer of the mixture layer with volumetric heat source using the mass transfer system. $H_2SO_4-CuSO_4$ electroplating system was used as the mass transfer system. With the modified Rayleigh number of $3{\times}10^{14}$, the Nusselt number showed minimum at the bottom and increased along curvature to the top of the experimental apparatus.

  • Magnesium alloys have been paid attention In automotive and industries as lightweight materials, and with these materials it has been attempted at deep drawing process for assessment of formability of sheet metal. For warm deep drawing process with a local heating and cooling technique, both die and blank holder were heated at warm temperature while the punch was kept at room temperature by cooling water. Warm deep-drawing process with considering heat transfer was simulated by finite element method to investigate the improvement of deep-drawability and temperature distribution of Mg alloy sheet. The effect of sham rate sensitivity index on the deformation profile was considered in this work and the simulation results revealed that considering heat transfer is very effective for deep-drawability of Mg alloy. The deformed blank In considering heat transfer was drawn successfully without any localized thinning and the cup height is higher in contrast to results of simulations in considering no heat transfer.

  • Solidification of aluminum alloys under moderate pressures has been investigated. Interfacial heat transfer coefficient at the casting/mold interface varies with time after pouring the molten metal into the die cavity, and therefore plays an important role in determining solidification sequence. The heat transfer coefficients were evaluated by using an inverse problem method, based on the measured temperature distribution. The calculated heat transfer coefficients were used for solidification simulation in the squeeze casting process. The effects of applied pressure and positions of insulation in the mold have also been investigated on solidification microstructures and on the formation of macrosegregation of Al-4.5wt.%Cu alloys.

  • This paper represents to develop a computer software system which is capable to analyze the phase transformation of high strength steel(BV-AH32) and to predict heat transfer, residual stress due to phase transformation during Gas Metal Arc(GMA) welding. The developed model was taken into account temperature dependent of young's modules, coefficient of thermal expansion and yield stress as well as the double ellipsoidal heat distribution by the moving arc. The results showed that the longitudinal and transverse residual stresses calculated by the coupled analysis of heat transfer, residual stress and phase transformation are in good agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the temperature distribution as well as longitudinal and transverse residual stresses of weldment were determined at the 1-pass and 2-pass of welding.
