Meta-Record Algorithm based on Mnemonic System in Mobile Environments (모바일 환경에서 기억법 기반 메타 레코드 알고리즘)

  • In introducing memory methods in various educational fields, programs in a mobile environment can be used for the purpose of increasing accessibility and enhancing the effectiveness of education. It is much easier to remember words with meaning than to remember numerical information such as years. From the standpoint of increasing the educational effect, the part that needs to be supplemented with the help of the application can be said to be numerical information. Most studies related to conventional numerical memory have focused on the form that helps memory by imaging numbers. In the paper on memory-based meta-record algorithms in the mobile environment, the application developed in the previous study attempts to supplement this by discovering and simply modifying the user's mistakes in the entered numerical information. In this study, we aim to increase the memory rate by constructing metadata based on personalized log information and correcting mistakes. To do this, applications suitable for the mobile environment are developed, a structure of meta-record data is proposed, and meta-record application algorithms are implemented and evaluated.

Development of Recall, Organizational Strategic Behavior, and Meta-Memory in Children : A Microgenetic Study of Utilization Deficiencies (아동의 조직화 책략에서의 회상, 책략행동, 메타기억수준의 변화 : 이용결여에 대한 미시 발생적 연구)

  • This study was designed to examine various patterns of developmental change in children's recall, strategic behaviors, and meta-memory with a sort-recall task in relation to utilization deficiencies. Memory tasks consisting of 18 pictures were presented individually to 48 seven-year-old children in each of 7 sessions. Sessions 1 and 2 were baseline; Sessions 3 and 4 were for strategy training, including the organization group, the self-regulation group, the organization/self-regulation group and control group. Sessions 5, 6, and 7 were unprompted tests of strategy maintenance. Results showed significant differences between the 4 groups in their recall, strategy repertories and strategy evaluation. Findings were discussed in terms of the analysis of memory strategy and memory development.

Comparative Effects and Ranks of Repositioning for Pressure Ulcer Prevention in Adults: A Network Meta-analysis (욕창예방을 위한 체위변경 중재 효과의 비교순위: 네트워크 메타분석)

  • Purpose: A network meta-analysis was conducted to assess the comparative effects and ranks of repositioning for pressure ulcer prevention in adults. Methods: A network meta-analysis was performed in a frequency method, using the "netmeta" package of R software version 4.1. The effects of repositioning intervention were confirmed by the odds ratio. The comparative ranking of the repositioning effects was confirmed using the cumulative probability (P-score). Results: Seven intervention studies were included in this study. Based on the P-score, the use of the repositioning system was ranked as the most effective among all interventions (P-score 78.7%). Next was 3~4-hour repositioning combined with memory foam mattress use (P-score 77.2%), use of wearable sensor (P-Score 61.4%), 2-hour repositioning combined with memory foam mattress use (P-score 59.1%), 2-hour repositioning combined with powered air pressure redistribution mattress use (P-score 18.0%), and 4-hour repositioning combined with powered air pressure redistribution mattress use (P-score 18.0%). Conclusion: This study provides information on the relative comparative value of various repositioning interventions to prevent pressure ulcers using network meta-analysis. This is expected to be useful for nurses' decision-making when applying repositioning interventions in clinical practice

Meta-cognitive awareness and prospective memory retrieval process: The effect of voluntary attention allocation strategy (메타 인지적 인식과 미래계획기억 인출 과정: 자발적 주의 할당 전략의 효과)

  • Prospective memory (PM) is memory for activities to be performed in the future, such as remembering to purchase a piece of fruit on the way home or remembering to give someone a telephone message. Theoretically, PM retrieval can be accomplished either by controlled monitoring of intended action or by a more automatic process that spontaneously responds to the presence of intended event. The present study examined the effect of meta-cognitive awareness in PM retrieval process. In Experiment 1, we manipulated PM condition with a salient cue to stimulate participants' meta-cognitive awareness. Results showed the salient cue condition spontaneously triggered remembering to perform an intended action. In Experiment 2, we manipulated participants' meta-cognitive awareness about PM task difficulty and about the degree to which cognitive capacity is required to realize the PM task. Results showed that PM retrieval process varied with meta-cognitive awareness (i.e., more resources were allocated if the PM task was expected to be difficult). These results imply that participants' meta-cognitive awareness play an important role in PM retrieval process.

Development of Implicit Memory: The Effect of Knowledge Base and Meta Memory (암묵적 기억의 발달: 지식기반과 메타기억의 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of knowledge base and metamemory in children's conceptual implicit memory with category-exemplar-generation task. Subjects were total 180 children of each 60 from Grade2, Grade6 and High school students. They were examined implicit memory with category-exemplar-generation task, knowledge base test, and metamemory test. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA, and Scheffe post hoc test. The result was following: First, as the child grow old, implicit memory primed increased. Implicit memory amount was significantly different between Grade2 and High school students, Grade6 and High school students. Second, as the child grow high knowledge base, implicit memory primed increased. There was a significantly different found between age and knowledge base. Third, as the child grow high metamemory, implicit memory primed increased. These results were interpreted as that the state of the age, knowledge base and metamemory should be an important factorin implicit memory. And current findings suggest that implicit memory can show development if a children's knowledge base and metamemory in developing with age.

Effects of a Memory Training Program Using Efficacy Sources on Memory Improvement in Elderly People. (노인의 효능자원을 이용한 기억훈련프로그램의 효과)

  • This study was a quasi-experimental study to confirm the effects of a memory training program using efficacy sources. The purpose was to develop an effective memory training program for elderly people and to identify the effects of the memory training program. This study was carried out between February 24 and July 18, 1999 and the subjects of the study were 102 elderly people who were participants at a welfare institute in Seoul. The experimental group (51) and the control group (51) were assigned by means of participation order. The control group was matched to the experimental group and was selected considering age, sex, and religion. The experimental group participated in the memory training program. The memory training program was based on the literature of Fogler & Stern (1994), Wang & Lee (1990), Lee (1991) and Lee (1993). The memory training program was given twice a week for two weeks with each program lasting two hours. Task centered memory self-efficacy was measured using the Memory Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Berry & Dennehey (1989) and Meta Memory was measured by the MIA developed by Dixon et al. (1988) Memory performance was measured by the word list developed by Cho Sung Won (1995) and the face recognition task (Face Recognition Task developed for this study). Data were analyzed by SPSS PC and the results are described below. 1. The experimental group which participated in the Memory Training Program showed higher task centered memory self-efficacy scores as compared to the control group (t=4.354, P=.0001). 2. The experimental group which participated in the Memory Training Program showed higher metamemory scores as compared to the control group (t=4.733, P=.0001). 3. The experimental group which participated in the Memory Training Program showed higher memory performance scores as compared to the control group (t=7.500, P=.0001). The memory performance involved an immediate word recall task, a delayed word recall task, a word recognition task, and the face recognition task. 4. In the experimental group, there was significant correlation between the task centered memory self-efficacy scores and the metamemory scores (r=.382, P=.006), but the correlation between the task centered memory self-efficacy scores and the memory performance scores and between the metamemory scores and the memory performance scores were not significant. The results showed that task centered memory self-efficacy, meta memory and memory performance improved following the Memory Training Program including the memory process, changes in memory with aging, and appropriate use of memory strategies. Memory Training Program is an effective nursing intervention for improving memory in elderly people and, also, in people with complaints of memory loss.

Mediating Effect of Meta-cognition between Locus of Control and Self-efficacy

  • Meta-cognition is the knowledge and cognition of cognitive phenomena, including the control of ones own memory, comprehension, and thought processes. Meta-cognition is similar to self-awareness, which is the understanding of oneself, and affects people's attitudes and behaviors. This study demonstrated the mediating effect of meta-cognition between internal locus of control and self-efficacy. Internal locus of control refers to the steady faith that any outcome is related to one's own efforts. Self-efficacy is a collection of personal strong belief that one individual can achieve his or her own goals. In this study, if a person has a tendency to adopt an internal locus of control, meta-cognition is improved, and self-efficacy can in turn be increased if meta-cognition is improved. This study conducted an empirical analysis through questionnaires conducted on 260 university students. The results of the research demonstrated that there is a highly positive correlation between meta-cognition, control position, and self-efficacy. In addition, this study emphasized that positive meta-cognition with internal locus of control can lead to positive attitudes and behaviors, and positive results.

A Self-Description File System for NAND Flash Memory (낸드 플래시 메모리를 위한 자기-서술 파일 시스템)

  • Conventional file systems for harddisk drive cannot be applied to NAND flash memory, because the physical characteristics of NAND flash memory differs from those of harddisk drive. To address this problem, various file systems with better reliability and efficiency have also been developed recently. However, those file systems have inherent overheads for updating the file's metadata pages, because those file systems save file's meta-data and data separately. Furthermore, those file systems have a critical reliability problem: file systems fail when either a page in meta-data of a file system or a file itself fails. In this paper, we propose a self-description page technique and In Memory Core File System technique to address these efficiency and reliability problems, and develop SDFS(Self-Description File System) newly. SDFS can be safely recovered, although some pages fail, and improves write and read performance by 36% and 15%, respectively, and reduces mounting time by 1/20 compared with YAFFS2.

Effect of phosphatidylserine on cognitive function in the elderly: A systematic review and meta-analysis

  • Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an essential component of the cerebral cortex and is associated with cognitive function. In this systematic review, the effects of PS on cognitive function in the elderly population are examined. The literature search included PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases. Subsequently, nine studies, including five randomized controlled trials and four pre-post studies, were selected. There were 961 participants in the selected studies; PS dosage varied from 100 to 300 mg/d, and the experimental period ranged from 6 weeks to 6 months. Five out of the nine selected studies were assessed to have a 'low' risk of bias, whereas the other four studies were assessed to have 'some concerns' regarding the risk of bias. The results of the meta-analysis concluded that PS had a positive effect on the memory of older adults with cognitive decline. Thus, PS appears to improve age-associated cognitive decline, especially memory, with no adverse effects.

Implementation of Efficient and Reliable Flash File System (효율적이고 신뢰성 있는 플래시 파일시스템의 구현)

  • Flash memory is widely used in embedded systems because of its benefits such as non-volatile, shock resistant, and low power consumption. However, NAND flash memory suffers from out-place-update, limited erase cycles, and page based read/write operations. To solve these problems, YAFFS and RFFS, the flash memory file systems, are proposed. However YAFFS takes long time to mount the file system, because all the files are scattered all around flash memory. Thus YAFFS needs to fully scan the flash memory. To provide fast mounting, RFFS has been proposed. It stores all the block information, the addresses of block information and meta data to use them at mounting time. However additional operations for the meta data management are decreasing the performance of the system. This paper presents a new NAND flash file system called ERFFS (Efficient and Reliable Flash File System) which provides fast mounting and recovery with minimum mata data management. Based on the experimental results, ERFFS reduces the flash mount/recovery time and the file system overhead.
