VANET (vehicular ad hoc network) refers to the case networks designed for vehicles. Such networks are established among the vehicles which are equipped with communication tools. Within these networks, vehicles are regarded as the network nodes. On time and on schedule transmission of data is of high significance for these networks. In order to accomplish the objective of on-time data transmission, specific electronic equipment is embedded in each vehicle which maintains ad hoc communications among the passengers. Information about traffic, road signs and on-line observation of traffic status can be transmitted via these networks; such data makes it possible for the driver to select the best route to reach his destination. If there are not any infrastructures, two broadcasting approaches can be considered: overflowing and rebroadcasting. The overflowing approach leads to heavy traffic. Hence, the challenge we face is to avoid the broadcasting flood. In this paper, an approach for the management of the broadcasting flood is proposed based on fuzzy theory. The proposed method is assumed to have better performance and efficiency than any other approaches in terms of crash rate, the rate of message success and delay

In wireless sensor networks, there have been two methods for sensing continuously moving object tracking: user-query based method and periodic report based method. Although the former method requires overhead for user query rather than the latter method, the former one is known as an energy-efficient method without transferring unnecessary information. In the former method, a virtual tree, consisting of sensor nodes, is exploited for the user querying and sensor reporting. The tree stores the information about mobile objects; the stored information is triggered to report by the user query. However, in case of fast moving object, the tracking accuracy reduces due to the time delay of end-to-end repeated query. To solve the problem, we propose a query relaying method reducing the time delay for mobile object tracking. In the proposed method, the nodes in the tree relay the query to the adjacent node according to the movement of mobile object tracking. Relaying the query message reduces the end-to-end querying time delay. Simulation results show that our method is superior to the existing ones in terms of tracking accuracy.

Multicast is an efficient method for real-time transmission in many multimedia applications. It is important to recover lost packets and to manage multicast groups according to the network status in order to improve the reliability of multicast transmissions. In this paper, we propose a method that can efficiently recover lost packets in a large multicast group. In the proposed method, we create a recovery cluster (RC) using a multicast domain (MD) for recovery of lost packets. In the conventional methods, clusters send a request message for lost packets to the senders in order to recover the packets lost from many multicast applications. This increases packet delay time and overhead because of the feedback messages and retransmitted packets. In the proposed method, we improve these problems using the RC, which consists of many MDs (which have overlay multicast senders), and many cluster heads (CHs). We divide the message into blocks, and divide each block into many segments for packet recovery using the CHs. When packet loss occurs, all CHs share the segment information and recover the lost segments at the same time. Simulation results show that the proposed method could improve the packet recovery ratio by about 50% compared to the conventional methods.

The wireless mesh network based on IEEE 802.11s provides a routing based on a destination address as it inherits legacy internet architecture. However, this architecture interested in not 'what' which is originally the users goal but 'where'. Futhermore, because of the rapid increase of the number of mobile devices recently, the mobile traffic increases geometrically. It reduces the network effectiveness as increasing many packets which have same payload in the situation of many users access to the same contents. In this paper, we propose an OpenFlow-based contents routing for the wireless mesh network(WMN) to solve this problem. We implement contents layer to the legacy network layer which mesh network uses and the routing technique based on contents identifier for efficient contents routing. In addition we provide flexibility as we use OpenFlow. By using this, we implement caching technique to improve effectiveness of network as decreasing the packet which has same payload in WSN. We measure the network usage to compare the flooding technique, we measure the delay to compare environment using caching and non caching. As a result of delay measure it shows 20% of performance improve, and controller message decrease maximum 89%.
With the proliferation of a wireless support and the advances of mobile devices, there is a growing need of making it available for a wireless network as well. Low bandwidth of a wireless network is one of the major issues that should be considered for extending a synchronous collaboration system developed for a wired network to supuort a wireless network. We propose a priority-based view synchronization scheme, exploiting the relaxed synchronization. The proposed scheme leverages the fact that mobile users need not have the exactly same view as the users in a wired network since they usually have a limited screen size and thus focus only on part of a whole document. We evaluate the performance of a simple group editor with the propose scheme using ns -2. The performance results show that the proposed scheme keeps the message transmission delay low so that mobile users can have synchronous colloboration with wired users without signification delay. The proposed scheme is designed and implemented as a framework to support various kinds of realtime groupware applications, exploiting the existing groupware framework, Habanero. As a client program, we implemented a simple group text editor.
Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANET) consist of mobile nodes which are usually powered by battery Approaches for minimizing power consumption have been proposed for all network layers and devices. IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function), a well-known medium access control protocol for MANETS, also defines a power save mode operation. The nodes in power save mode periodically repeat the awake state and the doze state in synchronized fashion. When all nodes are in the awake state, the exchange the announcements for the subsequent message transmission with neighbors. The nodes that send or receive the announcements stay awake for data transmission, and others go into the dole state. The previous works for enhancing the power save mode operation have focused on shortening the duration of the awake state. We observed that the longer sleeping period results in seriously long delivery latency and the consequent unnecessary power consumption as well, because the packets can move forward only one hop for a fixed interval. In this paper, we propose an improved protocol for the power save mode of IEEE 802.11 DCF, which allows the flooding packets to be forwarded several hops in a transmission period. Our approach does not reduce the duration of compulsory awake period, but maximizes its utilization. Each node propagates the announcements for next flooding to nodes of several hops away, thus the packets can travel multiple hops during one interval. Simulation results of comparison between our scheme and the standard show a reduction in flooding delay maximum 80%, and the unicasting latency with accompanying flooding flows near 50%, with slight increase of energy consumption.
The ATIS(Advance Traveler Information System), as one part of ITS, is a system aiming to disperse traffic volume on transportation networks by providing traffic information to transportation users on pre-trip and en-route trips. One of tools in ATIS is usage of VMS(Variable Message Signs). It provides to the drivers with direct information about state of processing direction. which is considered as the most effective method in ATIS. The purposes of providing VMS information are classified two categories. One is to provide simple information to drivers for their convenience. The other is to manage traffic demand to improve transportation network performance. However, for more effective and reliable VMS information, several strategies should be taken into account. The main VMS management strategy is "Traffic Diversion Strategy for minimum delay" when traffic congestion or incident are occurred. For effective operation. firstly. reasonable diversion traffic volume is determined by network traffic condition Secondly, it is necessary to make providing information strategy which reflects driver response behavior for controling diversion traffic volume. This paper focuses on the providing real-time route guidance information by VMS when congestion is occurred by the incidents. This sturdy estimates time-dependent system optimal diversion rate that inflects travel time and queue lengths using traffic flow simulation model on base Cellular Automata. In addition, route choice behavior models are developed using binary logit model for traffic information variable by traffic system controller. Finally, this study provides time-dependent VMS massage contents and degree of providing information in order to optimize the traffic flow.

The Tactical Internet(TI) managed by Infantry Brigades is used for the purpose of sharing information of Command Control and Situation Awareness. When there are more than two destinations to transmit data in the TI system, a multicasting is utilized based on pre-defined multicast groups. However even in the case when a source node needs to send some messages like weathercast and attack alarm etc to only a part of Battalion or Brigades in a specific geographical region (destination region), the current TI multicasting protocol is designed to transmit the messages to the pre-defined group or all of the Battalion/Brigade nodes, resulting in inefficiency in terms of end-to-end delay and overhead. In this paper, we propose more efficient protocol for such cases, named as "Tactical Internet Geocasting (TIG)". The proposed scheme firstly checks whether the destination region belongs to one Battalion region or more than two Battalion regions using location information, and then performs a greedy forwarding from the source node to the destination region, followed by a local flooding inside of the destination region. With performance analysis and simulations using NS-2, TIG is compared to the current TI multicasting protocol (i.e., Simplified MDP) and the LBM (Location-based Multicast). The simulation results show that the proposed TIG is more efficient than both in terms of delay and network overhead.
We present an ATM switch architectures based on the multistage interconnection network(MIN) for the efficient multicast traffic control. Many of these applications require multicast connections as well as point-to-point connections. Muiticast connection in which the same message is delivered from a source to arbitrary number of destinations is fundamental in the areas such as teleconferencing, VOD(video on demand), distributed data processing, etc. In designing the multicast ATM switches to support those services, we should consider the fairness(impartiality) and priority control, in addition to the overflow problem, cell processing with large number of copies, and the blocking problem. In particular, the fairness problem which is to distribute the incoming cells to input ports smoothly is occurred when a cell with the large copy number enters upper input port. In this case, the upper input port sends before the lower input port because of the calculating method of running sum, and therefore cell arrived into lower input port Is delayed to next cycle to be sent and transmission delay time becomes longer. In this paper, we propose the cell splitting and group splitting algorithm, and also the fairness scheme on the basis of the nonblocking characteristics for issuing appropriate copy number depending on the number of Input cell in demand. We evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes in terms of the throughput, cell loss rate and cell delay.
This paper presents an efficient interoperation scheme of a VPN(Virtual Private Network) and Mobile IP using a hierarchical structure of a FA(Foreign Agent). In the proposed scheme, the GFA(Gateway Foreign Agent) plays a role of VPN gateway on behalf of the MN(Mobile Node). When the MN moves in the same GFA domain, because the GFA has already an IPsec security association with a VPN gateway in the home network of the MN, the MN does not need an IPsec re-negotiaion. In this way, our mechanism reduces a message overhead and a delay resulted from an IPsec negotiation. And a MN can send a data to a correspondent node without a packet leakage. We show a performance of our scheme by using a discrete analytical model. Analytical results demonstrated that the total processing cost calculated by a registration update cost and a packet delivery cost is significantly reduced through our proposed scheme.
