This study was performed to find the best bonding conditions by comparing mechanical properties in thermoplastic resin of polyethylene (PE) and polyamide (PA) adhesion. Following results were obtained from the tests with varying welding time and welding pressure. Satisfactory adhesion was executed in ultrasonic welding for the same materials of PE and PA. The best welding conditions were found to be welding time of 1 second, welding pressure of 250kPa for PE-PE weding, 2 second and 350kPa for PA-PA welding. Welding time and welding pressure end to increase with the increase of materials strength. Dissimilar materials were adhered when adhesion and ultrasonc welding were performed simultaneously. The observation of the structure of ultrasonic welding area with microscope showed differenticated structures between well adhered region and badly adhered region.

Due to the miniaturization of MEMS and microelectronics the joining techniques also have to be adjusted. The dosing technology with viscous adhesives does not permit reproducible adhesive volumes, which are clearly under a nano-liter. A nano-liter means however a diameter of bonding area within the range of several 100 micrometers. Additional, viscous adhesives need a certain time, until they are cross linked or cured. The problem especially in the MEMS is the initial strength, since it gives the time, which is needed for joining an individual adhesive joint. The time up to the initial strength is with viscous, also with fast curing systems, within the range of seconds until minutes. Until the reach of the initial strength, the micro part must be fixed/held. Without sufficient adjustment/clamping it can come to a shift of the micro parts. Also existing micro adhesive bonding processes are not batch able, i.e. the individual adhesive joints of a micro system must be processed successively. In the context of the WCARP III 2006 now an innovative method is to be presented, how it is possible to solve the existing problems with micro bonding. i.e. a method is presented, which is batch able, possess a minimum joining geometry with some micrometers and is so fast that no problems with the initial strength arise. It is a method, which could revolutionize the sticking technology in the micro system engineering.
In this study, three-dimensional heat flow in laser beam welding for deep penetration was analyzed by using F.E.M common code, and then the results were compared with the experimental data. The models for analysis are full penetration welds and are made at three different laser powers (6, 9.9, 4.5 kW) with two different welding speeds (5.8mm/s, 5mm/s). The characteristics of thermal absorption by the workpiece during deep penetration laser welding can be represented by a combination of line heat source through the workpiece and distributed heat source at the top surface due to the plasma plume above the top surface. This gives an insight into the way in which the beam interacts with the material being welded. The analyses performed with the combined heat source models show comparatively good agreement between the experimental and calculated melt temperature isotherm, i.e, the fusion zone boundary. The results are used to explain the "nail head" appearance of fusion zone, which is quite common in laser beam welds.eam welds.

Friction stir welding is a solid phase welding process that does not melt the metal when welding. The FSW is the most remarkable and potentially useful new welding technique that is still in development. Friction stir butt welding process on 2 mm thick Al 1050 plates by utilizing a milling machine was experimentally studied. With the optimized heat generating tool welds could be achieved that are void and crack free. It was found that the friction stir welded tensile test specimens failed in the HAZ outside of the weld metal, and that the tensile strength was above 90% of that of the base metal.
There are so many difficulties of melt bonding mainly applied for hull construction of a aluminum alloy small boat. For resolving this problem, Friction stir welding(FSW) in non-melting solid state welding Process generally is applied in the transport industry. This paper is studied the joining strength characteristics and macrostructure according to dissimilar aluminium 5000/6000 alloy joining for a small boat applied for this FSW technology. It is reported that difference of joining strength in accordance with the direction of rotation in case of friction stir welding between dissimilar metals(Al/Cu, Al/Fe) is also highly large. In this study, Test is carried out by making the specimen according to the direction of rotation of dissimilar aluminium alloy joining.
When a workpiece is to be arc welded around the outside corner, continuous welding without welding seam in the neighborhood of comer still remains a very difficult technique. Skilled welders weld comers by delicate“hand-eye coordination”while turning the workpiece manually, However, there is not a very clear solution to this problem in robotized arc welding process. In order to solve this problem, the coordination of a robot and a positioner with one or two axes is necessary. This paper presents a method of continuous welding around the corner of workpiece using the coordinated motion of a robot and a positioner. The positioner is either revolute jointed or prismatic jointed. In this paper, a clothoid curve is chosen for welding trajectory. The clothoid curve is excellent in connecting straight and curved weld-lines with good continuity and accommodates various welding conditions. By using this welding trajectory, the deceleration, which leads to widening of the melt and the heat affected zone, at comer area is reduced with strategic rotation of robot torch in coordination with a positioner providing smooth transition of welding torch orientation. Two types of special clothoid curves are developed for different weld slope conditions. These clothoid curves are applied to the case of linear and rotary Positioners at arc welding robot work-cell.

Lap joint welding conducts low carbon steel plates using a 2.0kW continuous wave Nd:YAG laser beam. The specimen is composed of thin plate of 20 sheets. Process Variables contain two controlled parameters of the laser power and the welding speed. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the lap welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stain-stress behavior, and the hardness of the welded part are investigated. The weld width difference between the top and the bottom because the welding speed is increased. The reason, cooling rate is decreased because of fast welding speed. When the heat input is higher, larger volume of the base metal will melt and the welding heat has longer time to conduct into the bottom from the top. The microstructure and tensile properties of the joints are investigated in order to analyze the effects of heat input on the quality of laser welded specimen. From the results of the investigation, We observe that welding quality is good for the laser power of 1800W, and laser welding speed from 1.8m/min to 2.2m/min.
The formation and stability of stationary laser weld keyholes were investigated using a numerical simulation. The effect of multiple reflections in the keyhole was estimated using the ray tracing method, and the free surface profile, flow velocity and temperature distribution were calculated numerically. In the simulation, the keyhole was formed by the displacement of the melt induced by evaporation recoil pressure, while surface tension and hydrostatic pressure opposed cavity formation. A transition mode having the geometry of the conduction mode with keyhole formation occurred between the conduction and keyhole modes. At laser powers of 500W and greater, the protrusion occurred on the keyhole wall, which resulted in keyhole collapse and void formation at the bottom. Initiation of the protrusion was caused mainly by collision of upward and downward flows due to the pressure components, and Marangoni flow had minor effects on the flow patterns and keyhole stability.bility.
TIG welding enables to produce high quality weldment. However it has some problems such as shallow penetration and large distortion due to low penetration aspect ratio after welding. In order to overcome those problems, there are many ongoing studies on A-TIG welding, which use active flux. In this study, the effect of arc length and shield gas on penetration aspect ratio with melt-run welding on STS 304 6t, on which active flux was spreaded, was investigated. Arc length was changed from 1mm to 3mm, and aspect ratio became higher as arc length was decreased in this range. 100% Ar gas, Ar-$H_2$ mixed gas, Ar-He mixed gas, and 100% He gas were used as shield gas in this study. When Ar-$H_2$ mixed gas, Ar-He mixed gas, and 100% He gas were applied, penetration and melting efficiency were both increased as compared with 100% Ar gas. Aspect ratio was the highest with Ar-2.5% $H_2$ mixed gas.
