Nine triterpenes were isolated from the petroleum ether and MeOH extract of Perilla frutescens var. acuta leaves. Their structures were determined to be arjunic acid (1), maslinic acid (2), oleanolic acid (3), euscaphic acid (4), tormentic acid (5), 3-O-trans-p-coumaroyltormentic acid (6), 28-formyloxy-$3{\beta}$-hydroxy-urs-12-ene (7), ursolic acid (8), and corosolic acid (9) by spectroscopic methods. The compounds 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 were isolated for the first time from this plant and the Genus Labiatae. The isolated compounds (1-9) were tested for cytotoxicity against four human tumor cell lines (A549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, and HCT-15) in vitro using a Sulforhodamin B bioassay.
Bioassay-directed fractionations of the seed extracts of Trichosanthes kirilowii, have resulted in the isolation of two new compounds, 2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxo-1-propanol (2) and isoetin 5'-methyl ether (5,7,2',4'-tetrahydroxy-5'-methoxyflavone) (3), together with two known compounds, 7-hydroxychromone (1) and 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3',5'-dimethoxyflavone (tricin, 4). Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic analysis such as 2D-NMR, HRTOFMS, and UV. Compound 3 showed cytotoxicity against human lung cancer cell line A549, human skin melanoma SK-Mel-2, and mouse melanoma B16F1, with IC50 of 0.92, 8.0, and 7.23 μg/mL, respectively.
The cytotoxicity-directed fractionation of MeOH extract of Terminalia chebula fruits led to the isolation of three hydrolyzed tannins and a related compound, gallic acid(1), $1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloy-{\beta}-_D/-glucopyranose(II)$,. chebulagic acid (III) and chebulinic acid(IV), as active principles. They were shoen to exhibit moderate cytotoxicity against cultured human tumor cell lines including A-549, SK-OV-3, Sk-MEL-2, XF-498 and HCT-15 in vitro.
To evaluate the antitumor activity and antimetastatic effects of Bujeongyangeumtang(BJYET), studies were done experimentally. The results were obtained as follows: 1. BJYET extracts exhibited a significant cytotoxicity against A549, SK-MEL-2, SK-OV-3 and B16-BL6 cell lines. 2. The T/C% was 118.2% in BJYET treated group in S-180 bearing ICR mice. 3. BJYET extracts exhibited inefficient adhesive effect of A549, B16-BL6 cell to complex extracellular matrix. 4. BJYET extracts showed a significant inhibition of lung metastasis of B16-BL6 cells in C57BL/6. 5. In vitro neovascularization assays, angiogenesis was significantly inhibited in BJYET treated group than control group. These results suggested that BJYET extracts might be usefully applied for prevention and treatment of cancer.
All fifteen flavonoids (1-15) have been isolated from the roots of Sophora flavescens (Leguminosae) as active principles of the cytotoxic property toward human tumor cell lines such as A549, SK-OV-3, SK-Mel-2, XF498 and HCT15, in vitro. By means of spectral analyses, particularlyby the aid of various two dimensional NMR experiments, all $^1H-NMR$ ad $^{13}C$ -NMR signals of 1-15 were completely assigned, and thus the structures of 1-15 were established unambiguously.
This paper addresses the problem of single-channel speech separation to extract the speech signal uttered by the speaker of interest from a mixture of speech signals. We propose to apply time-frequency smoothing to the existing statistical single-channel speech separation algorithms: The soft mask and the minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) algorithms. In the proposed method, we use the two smoothing later. One is the uniform mask filter whose filter length is uniform at the time-Sequency domain, and the other is the met-scale filter whose filter length is met-scaled at the time domain. In our speech separation experiments, the uniform mask filter improves speaker-to-interference ratio (SIR) by 2.1dB and 1dB for the soft mask algorithm and the MMSE algorithm, respectively, whereas the mel-scale filter achieves 1.1dB and 0.8dB for the same algorithms.

This study was aimed at investigating the gene expression profile in basal ganglia of cadmium exposed rat based on cDNA array analysis. For cDNA array analysis, adult Sprague-Dawley male rats (350 ${\pm}$ 25 g) were intraperitoneally injected with 2.0 mg/kg body weight/day of CdCl2 (0.3 ml) for 5 days. For doserelated gene expression analysis rats were intraperitoneally injected with 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 1.0 mg/kg body weight/day of CdCl$_2$ for 5 days. Control rats were injected with equal volume of saline. Cadmium concentration of brain was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. For cDNA array, RNA samples were extracted from basal ganglia and reverse-transcribed in the presence of [${\alpha}$32P]-dATP. Membrane sets of the Atlas Rat 1.2 array II and Toxicology array 1.2 (Clontech, Palo Alto, CA) were hybridized with cDNA probe sets. RT-PCR was employed to validate the relative gene expression patterns obtained from the cDNA array. Northern blot hybridization methods were employed to assess the dose-related gene expression. Among the 2352 cDNAs, 671 genes were detected in both array sets and 63 genes of 38 classes showed significant (more than two fold) changes in expression. Thirty five of these genes were up-regulated and twenty eight were down-regulated in the cadmium exposed group. According to the dose-related gene expression analysis, heat shock 27 kDa protein (HSP27), neurodegeneration-associated protein 1 (Neurodap 1) genes were significantly up-regulated and melatonin receptor 1a (Mel1a), Kinesin family member 3C (KIF3C), novel kinesinrelated protein (KIF1D) genes were significantly downregulated even in the low-dose of cadmium exposed group (0.1 mg/kg body weight/day). Conclusions Sixty three genes detected in this study can give some more useful informations about the cadmium-induced neurotoxicity in the basal ganglia. As well as, HSP27, Neurodap1, Mel1a, KIF3C and KIF1D genes may be useful for the study of the cadmium-induced neurotoxicity because these genes showed dramatic changes of mRNA levels in response to the low dose of cadmium exposure.
This paper proposes a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) - based speech emotion recognition methods using four feature parameters; 1) Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) spectral entropy, 2) delta FFT spectral entropy, 3) Mel-frequency Filter Bank (MFB) spectral entropy, and 4) delta MFB spectral entropy. In addition, we use four emotions in a speech database including anger, sadness, happiness, and neutrality. We perform speech emotion recognition experiments using each pre-defined emotion and gender. The experimental results show that the proposed emotion recognition using FFT spectral-based entropy and MFB spectral-based entropy performs better than existing emotion recognition based on GMM using energy, Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR), Linear Prediction Coefficient (LPC), and pitch parameters. In experimental Results, we attained a maximum recognition rate of 75.1% when we used MFB spectral entropy and delta MFB spectral entropy.
To evaluate the antitumor and antimetastatic effects of Samiyeongeontanggamibang(SYTG), We have examined whether SYTG can inhibit the growth of several tumor cell lines, tumor cell adhesion, experimental tumor metastasis and increase survival rate of tumor-bearing mice by inhibition of DNA topoisomrase activity. The results were obtained as follows: 1. SYTG extracts revealed an efficient cytotoxicity against A549, SK-OV-3, B16-F10, and SK-MEL-2 cell lines. 2. SYTG extracts inhibited DNA topo-isomerase I from calf thymus. 3. The T/C% in S-180 bearing ICR mice treated with SYTG was 115.8% 4. SYTG extracts significantly inhibited adhesion of A549 cell to complex extracellular matrix. 5. In pulmonary colonization assay, SYTG suppressed lung metastases in tumor cell-injected mice. 6. In CAM assay, SYTG extracts inhibited angiogenesis at $15{\mu}g/egg$ concentration as compared with control. These results suggested that SYTG extracts might be a potent inhibitor of cancer.
Herein, we report and discuss the detection of fossa navicularis magna, a close radiographic anatomic variant of canalis basilaris medianus of the basiocciput, as an incidental finding in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. The CBCT data of the patients in question were referred for the evaluation of implant sites and to rule out pathology in the maxilla and mandible. CBCT analysis showed osseous, notch-like defects on the inferior aspect of the clivus in all four cases. The appearance of fossa navicularis magna varied among the cases. In some, it was completely within the basiocciput and mimicked a small rounded, corticated, lytic defect, whereas it appeared as a notch in others. Fossa navicularis magna is an anatomical variant that occurs on the inferior aspect of the clivus. The pertinent literature on the anatomical variations occurring in this region was reviewed.
