In this paper, firstly we report experimental results on applying information extraction (IE) methodology to the task of summarizing clinical trial design information in focus on ‘Compared Treatment’, ‘Endpoint’ and ‘Patient Population’ from clinical trial MEDLINE abstracts. From these results, we have come to see this problem as one that can be decomposed into a sentence classification subtask and an IE subtask. By classifying sentences from clinical trial abstracts and only performing IE on sentences that are most likely to contain relevant information, we hypothesize that the accuracy of information extracted from the abstracts can be increased. As preparation for testing this theory in the next stage, we conducted an experiment applying state-of-the-art sentence classification techniques to the clinical trial abstracts and evaluated its potential in the original task of the summarization of clinical trial design information.

A review of literature discussing the status and impact of mainstream Korean research revealed that there have been few studies carried out to investigate the status of Korean mainstream medical research and that we need to know exact status of Korean medical papers published in mainstream journals. Accordingly, a study is undertaken to measure mainstream medical publication output by authors at Korean institutions and its growth during the 1980s as recorded in MEDLINE. EMBASE and SCI. For comparison purpose, a measurement of mainstream publication output of chemistry, a scientific field which showed the best mainstream performance, is also made. The database searching is limited to SCI for chemistry records.

This study aims at reviewing the manual searching and the on-line Searching one of literature at the library or the information center, based on the comparative cost-effectiveness analysis. For this purpose, the two literature searching modes, the MEDLINE database and the corresponding Index Medicos one were used at the Medical school library of the‘s’university under same conditions of using six requests.

Objectives : Headache is a clinical symptom that more than 90% of all individuals experience during their life time. This article provides a current concept of tension-type and migraine headaches and summarizes the effects of biofeedback treatment and/or relaxation techniques. Methods : The following terms were used for Pubmed/Medline search : biofeedback, relaxation, physiological, behavioral, nonpharmacological, headache, tension-type headache, and migraine. A review of references from relevant literature was also conducted to collect reports not identified in the Pubmed/Medline search. Interviews with experts on biofeedback were also included in this review. Results : Headache is a psychophysiological symptom that can be treated by some behavioral interventions including biofeedback and relaxation. Literatures on biofeedback and/or relaxation have consistently reported significant therapeutic effects on headaches. Important factors that we have to consider, when we apply to headache patients with biofeedback and relaxation techniques, were also presented. Conclusion : The available evidence suggests that biofeedback and relaxation techniques are effective treatments for the patients with headaches and can be provided to the patients as monotherapy or combination therapy with medication.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine acupuncture treatment suggested on the papers of hyperemesis gravidarum(HG) in medicine journals and to establish the future direction. Methods: The papers which were associated with acupuncture and HG published between 2000 and 2012 in Medline were searched. Results: 14 studies met the condition. They were 13 randomized controlled trial (RCT)s and 1 clinical study. 13 studies revealed that acupuncture has efficacies in HG. 1 study was shown to have no statistically significant efficacy. 2 studies revealed that acupuncture was safe treatment, and 1 study revealed that acupuncture was reliable treatment. Conclusions: From the paper research, acupuncture treatment seems to be effective on HG. However, due to the lack sufficient research of HG, it would be necessary to fulfill further study about the period of acupuncture treatment on HG and the selection of acupoint through well-designed study and establish standard of evidence of them.
