In general, Area studies have very flexible field of research, so it is very difficult to proceed all field of research at the same time. Due to this, researches on Area studies have been changed the field of research and research trends according to age. So it is important to identify research trends for performing Area studies. Also, interests for understanding the research trend of Area studies are increasing constantly. In this paper, we analyze research trends of Mediterranean Area studies in Korea by using co-appearance keywords. To do this, we first analyze article types and extract co-appearance keywords on articles of 『Journal of Mediterranean Area Studies』, which is the representative journal of Mediterranean region in Korea. In details, trends analysis of Mediterranean Area studies would be performed by using cp-keywords of article and visualizing network graph forms.

Recently, various studies related to ICT convergence have been made. Recently, various studies related to ICT convergence have been made. In the academic field, the demand for ICT convergence is on the rise. For example, Digital Humanities and Area Informatics are representative. Area Studies means to study the culture of a specific area in an integrated way. In this regard, researchers who specialize in researching overseas area generally use websites to obtain information related to the area. The Multilingual Mediterranean Web Service System(MMWS), which is operated by the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of Busan University of Foreign Studies is a web site that provides professional and general information to researchers or ordinary people studying in the Mediterranean area among overseas area. In this paper, we analyzeoverseas web sites the MMWS and discuss how to activate web sites based on the analysis results. In details, it analyze MMWS through log analysis and use Google Analytics, a log analysis system provided by Google for analysis. Also study how to use ICT convergence contents as a website activation method.

Electronics cultural atlas is a typical methodology for the Digital Humanities. Since electronic cultural atlas could visualize various cultural information based on electronic atlas, that is an information visualization, users are able to make intuitive understanding on specific areas. Therefore, it can be effectively utilized in Area Studies and also helps users to understand comprehensively information on historic event in particular area with time information, because electronic cultural atlas represents a particular subject and time information with geographical information based on map. In other words, electronic cultural atlas may be considered as a specialized system of Digital Humanities for studying the Humanities and Area Studies. In this paper, we design and implement mediterranean electronic cultural atlas(MECA) for researchers of the Mediterranean area that has cultural hybridity formed the exchange of various aspects such as civilization, religion, race and language. In detail, a 'Digital Humanities Research Support System' is constructed to visualize research outcomes related to the Mediterranean area on Electronic Cultural Atlas and to use for researches.

Due to the variety of tourist attractions, many people of the world are visiting annually in Mediterranean area. In this paper, we analyze Mediterranean tourism impact by specific events such as the Arab Spring. In details, we make several density maps based on the position and time information of the geo-tagged photos extracted from Panoramio which is a representative photo sharing website. These density maps should be used to analyze how can specific events affect on Mediterranean tourism. To do this, first, a spatial database is constructed using geo-tag and time information of photo data extracted from Panoramio. Using GIS tool, then, several density maps are produced after performing density process based on spatial databases. Based on these density maps, finally, we analyze visually on Mediterranean tourism impact according to before, progress, and after of the Arab Spring.

It is very important to use the raw material in a particular field of research or education. Research without raw materials are difficult to prove and often remain hypothesis. The use of the raw material is also important in area studies that study specific areas. However, research of area studies, especially Western history, raw material and historical archives are very important data, but it is difficult to obtain and refer to these data due to physical or spatial constraints. In order to solve this problem, there is a method of collecting and providing historical archives, but it is currently difficult to find a case of providing overseas historical archives as a web system in Korea. Accordingly, in this paper proposes the necessity of collecting historical archives, the method of collection, and the method of digital archiving of collected data structurally and systematically. In this regard, investigate the existing research cases on the archive system and database design, and it description the differentiation between the existing systems and the modeling method proposed in this study. Also, to improve the efficiency of the search, it proposes a method of adding a tag table when database modeling.

The path of the search has been long and complex but rich in cultural, economic, religious, and human aspects. The relations between these two ports, Malta and Trieste, full of a painful and difficult but also glorious and fair history, have had their ups and downs as a theater, not so much land as the sea, and in this case the Mediterranean. This area has led to a similar vision of the historical aspects of the various dominations, and has a significant influence on the habits, customs and life of the people of Malta and Trieste. Their particularly complex history has unfolded with ups and downs, contrasting with other difficult times more happier and constructive as it has always, however, in the history of man. The purpose of this article is to analyze and arrange manifestly the history of commercial and maritime interchanges between Malta and Trieste, not achieved in Korea until now. This material has high scientific value gathering sufficient data for this article.

Information Visualization is an information technology to visually represent the data and information by utilizing various tools. Visual information can increase the user's intuitiveness and it can be an effective way that can observe and comprehend the specific information in a short time. Information Visualization, as a research method on Humanities, in the high interest of researchers of Humanities and Area studies, is recently used for collecting base data and analyzing information. As an way to use Information Visualization, various forms of Information Visualization like Electronic Cultural Atlas, Network and Multimedia are actively discussed and studied today. In this paper, Information Visualization will be discussed by utilizing D3, a web-based technology for dynamic visualization. In detail, relationship between the Abbasids of Islam can be visualized by using nodes and connection lines and, this relationship between objects will be analyzed efficiently. Researchers related in this field can use this analyzed information for basis data in their researches.

There have been growing interests in olive oil, which is attributed to the beneficial health effects of the Mediterranean diet. Numerous studies suggest that oleic acid, the major fatty acid in olive oil, may contribute to less incidence of coronary heart disease(CHD) in the Mediterranean area. Although the major effects of high monounsaturated fatty acid(MUFA) consumption on lowered plasma cholesterol are generally attributed to the consequential replacement of saturated fatty acid in diets, some studies have shown a modest cholesterol lowering effect of MUFA alone when it replaces dietary carbohydrate at an equal amount of energy. Furthermore, MUFA increases the level of the protective high-density lipoprotein cholesterol more than polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA) does when these two classes of fatty acids replace carbohydrates in the diet. It has been generally recommended that optimal dietary fat should be rich in MUFA, such as oleic acid, low in saturated fatty acids and provide adequate amounts of PUFA. However, no conclusive observations have been made yet mainly due to a difficulty in controlling the proportion of oleic acid without adjusting the levels of the other fatty acids to be constant, which could also affect plasma cholesterol levels. Recent findings also suggest that dietary PUFA results in higher tendency toward lipid peroxidation whereas with MUFA the susceptibility of low density lipoprotein to oxidative stress is reduced. More studies are needed to clarify the effects of MUFA on reducing the incidence of CHD.

최근에 전자문화지도에 대한 관심이 늘어나면서 다양한 주제를 기반으로 한 전자문화지도들이 연구 및 개발되고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 기존의 전자문화지도들은 대부분 단일 주제로 제작되므로 주제들 간의 연관성 분석이 어렵고, 전자문화지도들이 서로 연계되어 있지 않아 다양한 관점을 기반으로 한 활용이 미흡한 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 하나의 전자문화지도에 레이어 기능을 활용하여 다양한 주제들을 표현하는 방안을 제시한다. 또한, 이를 기반으로 전자문화지도에서의 주제별 중첩 기능을 활용하여 주제들 간의 연계 관계를 효율적으로 파악하고 다양한 주제들의 연관 관계를 통해 새로운 지식을 도출해 낼 수 있는 활용 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

The paper presents a methodology for developing earthquake damage and loss scenarios for urban areas, as well as its application to two cities located in Mediterranean countries, Grevena (in Greece) and D$\ddot{u}$zce (in Turkey), that were struck by strong earthquakes in the recent past. After compiling the building inventory in each city, fragility curves were derived using a hybrid approach previously developed by the authors, and a series of seismic scenarios were derived based on microzonation studies that were specifically conducted for each city (see companion paper by Pitilakis et al.). The results obtained in terms of damage estimates, required restoration times and the associated costs are presented in a GIS environment. It is deemed that both the results obtained, and the overall methodology and tools developed, contribute towards the enhancement of seismic safety in the Mediterranean area (as well as other earthquake-prone regions), while they constitute a useful pre-earthquake decision-making tool for local authorities.
