자애명상 프로그램이 간호대학생의 공감, 정서 및 스트레스에 미치는 효과 (The effect of a loving-kindness and compassion meditation program on the empathy, emotion, and stress of nursing college students)

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of a loving-kindness and compassion meditation program on the empathy, emotion, and stress of nursing college students. Methods: A pre-posttest experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was applied. The participants were 39 nursing college students (experimental group: 19, control group: 20). The loving-kindness and compassion meditation program for nursing college students took 8 weeks. Data was collected from February 2016 to March 2016, and was analyzed by Chi-square test and independent t-test using IBM SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: The difference between the experiment group and control group was statistically significant in empathy, negative affect, and perceived stress. Conclusion: The results indicate that the loving-kindness and compassion meditation program was effective for empathy improvement and stress management of nursing college students.

Self-rated ability to follow instructions for four mental states described in yoga texts

  • There were no studies available measuring the ability to follow instructions for meditation. Hence, the present study was planned to assess the ability to follow instructions for the four mental states viz., cancalata (random thinking), ekagrata (non-meditative concentration), dharana (focused meditation) and dhyana (defocused meditation or effortless meditation) described in yoga texts. Sixty male volunteers with ages ranging from 18 to 31 years (group mean age ${\pm}$ S.D., $22.78{\pm}2.73$) participated in the study. They were assessed using a visual analog scale immediately after each of the four states on four different days. The results showed that following dharana, scores on the visual analog scale were significantly lower compared to those related to cancalata, ekagrata and dhyana. Hence, dharana is the most difficult of the four states.

  • Sleep disturbance is a common health complaint affecting an estimated 10-25% of the general population. Pharmacotherapy is a traditional treatment and cognitive behavioral therapy is well demonstrated as an efficacious treatment for insomnia. There is a growing interest in the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation for sleep disturbed populations. Mindfulness involves focused, purposeful, nonjudgmental attention to a particular idea. In clinical application of mindfulness practice, mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy are used widely. Clinical trials support the effectiveness of meditation for the treatment of insomnia. The aim of this article is to review the effect of mindfulness meditation on insomnia.

M&L 자기성장 명상프로그램의 효과에 대한 연구 (The Study on Effects of M&L Self-Growth Meditation Program)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of M&L Self-Growth Meditation Program with Euro QOL-5 Dimension (EQ5D), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) and psychological test. Methods: 6 middle-age women have participated in the eight weeks of the M&L Self-Growth Meditation Program, and the program was executed once a week for about two hours. We evaluated EQ5D, FFMQ, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI) before and after the program in order to analyze the effects of M&L Self-Growth Meditation Program. Results: 1) EQ5D scores increased significantly (p<0.05), and overall physical condition scale( VAS) increased. 2) In the FFQM scores, value of Nonreactivity increased significantly (p<0.05), and total score increased. 3) Scores of BDI and STAI-S decreased significantly (p<0.05), and STAI-T, STAXI-S, STAXI-T, STAXI-O, STAXI-Su, and STAXI-R decreased. Conclusions: The results suggested that M&L Self-Growth Meditation Program improves the quality of life and mindfulness skill and has a positive responses to psychological problems-depression, anxiety, and anger.

명상 캠프 프로그램이 아동 및 청소년의 우울, 불안, 자아존중감에 미치는 효과 비교 (Comparison of the Effect of Maum Meditation Program on the Depression, Anxiety and Self-esteem of the Children and the Juveniles)

  • 본 연구는 마음수련 명상을 활용한 25일간의 명상 캠프 프로그램이 아동 및 청소년의 우울, 불안, 자아존중감에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 초, 중, 고등학생 집단 간의 차이가 있는지 확인하고자 실시되었다. 대상자는 명상 캠프에 참여한 초, 중, 고등학생 466명이며 캠프 전과 후에 우울, 불안, 자아 존중감을 측정하기 위하여 구조화된 설문지를 활용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 초, 중, 고등학생의 캠프 참여 전후의 변화를 비교 분석한 결과 초등학생은 우울, 불안의 감소와 자아 존중감 증가가 나타났으나 중학생의 경우 우울은 감소하고 자아존중감은 증가하였으나 불안 점수는 감소하지 않았다. 고등학생의 경우 우울과 불안의 변화는 없었으며 자아존중감만 증가하였다. 마음수련의 원리를 적용한 명상 캠프 프로그램은 아동 및 청소년에게 적용하였을 때 긍정적 정서를 증가시키고 부정적 정서를 감소시킬 수 있는 건강증진 프로그램으로서 활용 가능성을 확인하였다.

중국 기공 및 쿤달리니 요가 명상이 숙련자의 심박변이율(HRV) 변화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Chinese Qigong and Kundalini Yoga Meditations on the Heart Rate Variability of Skilled Students)

  • In this paper, we have investigated effects of two specific meditations (Chinese qigong meditation and Kundalini yoga meditation) on the heart rate variability (HRV), which is a well-known quantitative measure of autonomic balance, of skilled students. To analyze the effects, the MIT/BIH physionet database was utilized. The database includes RR intervals of eight skilled Chinese qigong meditators (5 women and 3 men; age range 26-35) and four skilled Kundalini yoga meditators (2 women and 2 men; age range 20-52). RR intervals of each subject were measured before and during the meditations. For HRV analysis, we have used typical four HRV parameters - the low frequency to high frequency power ratio (LF/HF ratio), SD2/SD1 ratio, sample entropy, and fractal dimension. The LF/HF ratio was calculated by the autoregressive spectrum and the SD2/SD1 ratio was derived from the Poincar$\grave{e}$ plot. The sample entropy was computed from the phase space plot and the fractal dimension was estimated by the Higuchi's algorithm. In the experiments, the Wilcoxon signed rank test was employed because we used small datasets and compared HRV parameters before and during the meditations. As a result, we have found increment of the LF/HF and SD2/SD1 ratios in both meditations; whereas the sample entropy is decreased during the meditations. In addition, the fractal dimension is increased during the Chinese qigong meditation; whereas it is decreased during the Kundalini yoga meditation. The results show that the sympathetic nervous system is generally more activated in skilled Chinese qigong and Kundalini yoga meditators, but the activation of the parasympathetic nervous tone is suppressed.

The effects of strengthening exercise, stretching and meditation on electromyography onset timing of the rectus femoris and gastrocnemius during vertical jump performance in healthy adults

  • Objective: Jump training helps increase the muscle power by improving the muscle strength and reaction time of the muscle in operation. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of strengthening, stretching exercise and meditation on electromyographic (EMG) onset timing of rectus femoris and gastrocnemius muscle during vertical jump performance. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Ten healthy adults (5 male and 5 female) who were familiar with the vertical jumping task and had no lower extremity injuries or any bone or joint disorders, were recruited for this study. Muscle onset timing was measured by surface EMG. After EMG onset timing were measured during performing three baseline vertical jump trials, strengthening and stretching exercises of the rectus femoris and gastrocnemius, and meditation were performed in random order. EMG onset timing was measured during vertical jump after intervention, respectively. EMG value was averaged for the three trials and analyzed using one-way repeated ANOVA. Results: During vertical jump, EMG onset timing of gastrocnemius was a significant difference after intervention (p<0.05), and then there was significantly faster in strengthening exercise than meditation (p<0.05). Conclusions: These results indicate the potential positive effect of performing strengthening exercise of the gastrocnemius before a jumping event. Future research is required to identify the effects of intervention over a long period.

코로나 19 후유증 환자에게 스트레칭과 명상이 불안과 우울 및 삶의 질에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Stretching and Meditation on Anxiety, Depression, and Quality of Life in Patients with Sequelae of COVID-19)

  • Purpose: This study aims to confirm the effects of stretching and meditation intervention on mental health-related anxiety, depression, and quality of life in college students in their 20s with sequelae of COVID-19. Methods: 30 men and women were randomly assigned to the stretching and meditation intervention group (10 people), the stretching intervention group (10 people), and the meditation group (10 people), and the experiment was conducted for 4 weeks. As for the analysis method, a paired t-test was performed for intra-group changes after 4 weeks, and one-way analysis of variance was performed for between-group changes. In addition, the significance level was set at 0.05. Results: Within-group changes in anxiety and depression were significantly different in all groups after 4 weeks (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference between SMG and SG and between SMG and MG in the change between groups after 4 weeks (p < 0.05). In the change in quality of life, there was a significant difference in all groups after 4 weeks (p < 0.05). There was also a significant difference between SMG and MG in the change between groups after 4 weeks. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the combined method of meditation and stretching intervention had a positive effect on the mental health of adults in their 20s and suggests the possibility of using it to improve mental health after recovering from COVID-19.

붓다볼(싱잉볼) 명상을 활용한 자아존중감 향상 프로그램 효과 연구 -중년 여성 불자 중심으로- (Buddha Bowl Meditation A Study on the Effect of Self-esteem Improvement Programs -Focused on middle-aged women Buddhists-)

  • 본 연구의 주요목적은 붓다볼 명상을 활용하여 중년여성들의 자기 존중감, 긍정적 사고를 향상시키는 프로그램 효과 연구이다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구대상은 '붓다볼'에 관심이 있는 부산시 H사찰 중년여성 불자들을 대상으로 하였다. 분석 방법은 본 연구의 단일집단의 사전-사후검사(One Group Pretest-Posttest Design)를 활용하여 실증적 분석을 수행하였다. 주요 연구 결과를 살펴보면, 다음과 같다. 첫째, 붓다볼 명상이 삶의 질에 미치는 효과 검증 결과, 삶의 질 전체는 실험집단에 유의미한 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것을 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 둘째, 붓다볼 명상이 자기 존중감에 미치는 효과 검증 결과, 자기 존중감은 실험집단에 유의미한 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것을 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 붓다볼 명상이 긍정사고에 미치는 효과 검증 결과, 긍정사고 전체는 실험집단에 유의미한 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것을 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 살펴본, 주요 결론은 소리의 파동 에너지를 활용한 치유 명상의 도구인 붓다볼은 중년여성 불자의 자아존중감, 삶의 질에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 이에 따라 붓다볼 명상프로그램은 개인과 가정, 사회적인 환경 여건으로 인하여 더 복합적인 심리적 어려움을 겪는 중년여성들에게 긍정적인 활용 가치가 있음을 판단된다. 아울러 붓다볼 명상프로그램을 교육적·정책적으로 적극적으로 활용할 수 있는 제도를 마련함으로써 중년여성들의 자아존중감, 긍정적 사고 및 삶의 질을 높이는 데 활용할 당위성과 필요성의 시사점을 제시하였다.

중년 여성의 뇌교육 명상 프로그램 참여여부에 따른 스트레스, 우울, 회복탄력성 비교 연구 (A comparative Study of on the Stress, Depression and Resilience in Middle-aged Women According to the Participation in Brain Education Meditation Program)

  • 본 연구는 중년 여성의 뇌교육 명상 프로그램 참여에 따른 스트레스(신체적 스트레스, 심리적 스트레스), 우울, 회복탄력성(자기조절능력, 대인관계능력, 긍정성)의 정도 및 차이를 파악하는 비교서술연구이다. 대상자는 D광역시 D센터에서 뇌교육 명상 프로그램을 1년 이상 참여자 중 중년 여성 26명과 D광역시 J구에 거주하고 있는 자 중 뇌교육 명상 프로그램에 참여하지 않는 중년 여성 29명 총 55명으로 2019년 11월 4일~22일까지 3주 동안 자료를 수집하였다. 자료 분석 결과, 뇌교육 명상 프로그램에 참여군이 미참여군보다 신체적 스트레스(t=2.549, p=.014), 심리적 스트레스(t=2.352, p=.022), 회복탄력성의 상위요인인 자기조절능력(t=-2.219, p=.031), 긍정성(t=-2.387, p=.021)에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 뇌교육 명상 프로그램 참여군은 미참여군보다 신체적 스트레스와 심리적 스트레스 점수가 낮았으며 자기조절능력과 긍정성 점수가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 중년 여성의 스트레스를 감소시키고 자기조절능력과 긍정성을 향상시키기 위해 뇌교육 명상 프로그램을 간호중재로서 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
