  • Nowdays, many people suffer from the neck pain due to forward head posture(FHP) and text neck(TN). To assess the severity of the FHP and TN the craniovertebral angle(CVA) is used in clinincs. However, it is difficult to monitor the neck posture using the CVA in daily life. We propose a new method using the cervical flexion angle(CFA) obtained from a wearable sensor to monitor neck posture in daily life. 15 participants were requested to pose FHP and TN. The CFA from the wearable sensor was compared with the CVA observed from a 3D motion camera system to analyze their correlation. The determination coefficients between CFA and CVA were 0.80 in TN and 0.57 in FHP, and 0.69 in TN and FHP. From the monitoring the neck posture while using laptop computer for 20 minutes, this wearable sensor can estimate the CVA with the mean squared error of 2.1 degree.

  • Objectives : This paper aims to analyze the origins of the pathogenic qi[邪氣] concept through analysis of related character shapes and examples within the Mawangdui Yishu, where we can grasp the state of medicine pre-Huangdineijing. Methods : Etymology was determined through ancient character analysis, while examples of its usage and original texts were compared to extract their implications. For usage analysis, medical texts of later periods that contained similar verses or contents with the Mawangdui text were compared, through which similarities and changes in meaning of the word or verse were examined. Conclusions : While the term 'xieqi(邪氣, pathogenic qi)' had not yet been mentioned in the Mawangdui text, 'eqi(惡氣)' was used similarly. Wind[風], cold[寒], dampness[濕] were not only understood as terms referring to weather or climate but possible causes for disease. Meanwhile, there was lingering belief from the Shang(商) period that saw disease as God's punishment, which could be seen as transition phenomenon from superstition to rational thought. Through diseases 'wind disease[風病]' and 'bi(痹)', we could determine that medicine at the time was limited to the Yin-yang theory, having not yet integrated the Five phases perspective. Moreover, the possibility of other pathogenic qi elements, 'heat[暑]', 'dryness[燥]', and 'fire[火]' could be assumed to have been embedded in 'wenbing(溫病)'.

  • "Hwangjenaegyeong-taeso(黃帝內經太素)" is a classic work of Yang Sang-seon(楊上善), which comprises original articles of "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)" along with "Somun(素問)", "Yeongchu(靈樞)", and "gapeul(甲乙)", as a one of the oldest annotated publications. Therefore, its significance lies in that "Hwangjenaegyeong-taeso(黃帝內經太素)" is a valuable work to reconstruct the original text of "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)" and comprehend its fundamental ideas. The only printed edition of "Hwangjenaegyeong-taeso(黃帝內經太素)" was photocopied in 1981, and is currently known as 'Orient Edition'. While 'Orient Edition' was referred to as the draft for the latest revised edition, volume 21 and 27 were photocopied from hand-copied edition, not the original. The original publications of 'Orient Edition' have been stocked at 'Haengwuseook(杏雨書屋)' of Japan and were recently published. Hence, a comparative study between the two original volumes and the former ones has been conducted. Although the most of the differences were trivial, some may have led to distorted interpretation of the text. The errors of the former revised edition fall into a few specific categories, and the most significant ones were errors that were made during the hand-copying procedure. Moreover, there were errors that were made due to the low resolution of the former draft, and simple errors during the publishing. In this work, examples of such cases were presented, and the results were collected.

  • DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑) is Joseon's classic medical text that has great significance in the medical history of Korea. However, the context of the treatments of accupuncuret&moxibustion in the book are hardly studied. This study is for the purpose of examining the treatments of accupuncuret&moxibustion in DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), and it starts with studying the accupuncuret&moxibustion part of DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑)'s NaeGyeong Chapter(內景篇) for starters. Through this study, the following could be known. 1. In DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑)'s NaeGyeong Chapter(內景篇), it is written that it quoted many various books, but actually, most of the parts are quoted from LouYing(樓英)'s YiXueGangMu (醫學綱目). 2. LouYing(樓英)'s YiXueGangMu(醫學綱目) is a work of the Ming Dynasty, which is when China's study of accupuncure&moxibustion was completed and many books on accupuncure&moxibustion were published. 3. However, in DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), it mainly quotes from YiXueGangMu(醫學綱目), instead of these professional acupuncture&moxibustion texts. This is because this book is a comprehensive medical text with various medical theories, which share the same flow with DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), and at the same time, it organized the treatments of accupuncure&moxibustion in a big scale in various ways.

  • According to the development of medical information systems, shortened examination time per patient could increase the number of treatments, resulting in the rapid growth of the amount of medical data. Studies on how to efficiently compress and store medical text data of increasing patients are in progress. However, previous methods have the shortcoming of compressing medical text data as it is, resulting in low compression rate. This research tries to overcome the problem by using the gamma coding method which enables compression in bit unit. We propose a new compression scheme which encodes the deviations between measured values and normal range values. Furthermore, we suggest to use the previous value with the least deviation from the measurement as the standard value to encode that deviation. Even though the suggested methods are simple, they have high compression rates. Through performance evaluation, we show that the suggested methods are more efficient than the previous methods.

  • We study bifurcation for the following fractional Schrödinger equation $$\{\left.\begin{eqnarray}(-{\Delta})^su+V(x)u&=&{\lambda}f(u)&&{\text{in}}\;{\Omega}\\u&>&0&&{\text{in}}\;{\Omega}\\u&=&0&&{\hspace{32}}{\text{in}}\;{\mathbb{R}}^n{\backslash}{\Omega}\end{eqnarray}\right$$ where 0 < s < 1, n > 2s, Ω is a bounded smooth domain of ℝn, (-∆)s is the fractional Laplacian of order s, V is the potential energy satisfying suitable assumptions and λ is a positive real parameter. The nonlinear term f is a positive nondecreasing convex function, asymptotically linear that is $\lim_{t{\rightarrow}+{\infty}}\;{\frac{f(t)}{t}}=a{\in}(0,+{\infty})$. We discuss the existence, uniqueness and stability of a positive solution and we also prove the existence of critical value and the uniqueness of extremal solutions. We take into account the types of Bifurcation problem for a class of quasilinear fractional Schrödinger equations, we also establish the asymptotic behavior of the solution around the bifurcation point.

  • Healthcare professionals have edited many health questions (HQs) and their answers for healthcare consumers on the Internet. The HQs provide both readable and reliable health information, and hence retrieval of those HQs that are relevant to a given question is essential for health education and promotion through the Internet. However, retrieval of relevant HQs needs to be based on the recognition of the intention of each HQ, which is difficult to be done by predefining syntactic and semantic rules. We thus model the intention recognition problem as a text classification problem, and develop two techniques to improve a learning-based text classifier for the problem. The two techniques improve the classifier by location-based and area-based feature weightings, respectively. Experimental results show that, the two techniques can work together to significantly improve a Support Vector Machine classifier in both the recognition of HQ intentions and the retrieval of relevant HQs.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to review $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ on documentary characteristics such as truth or falsehood of authors, editions, the relationship of $\ll$Hyeongibiyo(玄機秘要)$\gg$. Materials and Methods : Based on Hwangyongsang(黃龍祥)'s study, the author of $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$, the number of volumes and edition, basic contents and constitution, characteristic of reference, and the documentary research results will be arranged. Results and Conclusions : 1. $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ was made by Geunhyeon based on Yanggyeju(楊繼洲)'s $\ll$Hyeongibiyo$\gg$, and in the 29th year of the Manryeok(萬曆) era Jomunbyeong(趙文炳) saw to the inscription. Therefore, the author must be recorded as 'Originally by Yanggyeju of the Myeong(明) dynasty, revised by Geunhyeon'. 2. The existing Myeong dynasty editions are mostly Leewolgyu(李月桂)'s 'Jungsu edition(重修本)' from the 14th year of the Sunchi(順治) era of the Qing(淸) dynasty and Wangbo(王輔)'s 'Chesu edition (遞修本)' Leewolgyu and Wangbo's preface was deleted and the original text was supplemented from the 37th year of the Ganghui(康熙) era. There are many traces of revision, supplementation and copying by people of later generations in these editions. 3. The 'Chukin edition(縮印本)' of $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ is mostly a merge of the Myeong dynasty editions and used much of the new revised 'Chesu edition'. This editions should not ever be used again as an original in putting the $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ in order. 4. After $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ was published Jomunbyeong had a craftsman publish 4 drawings of $\ll$Donginmyeongdangdo(銅人明堂圖)$\gg$, of which the originally published ones were w drawings of the front and rear, and when Jomunbyeong republished he added 2 Cheukindo(側人圖) of the frontal side(正側) and rear side(背側). 5. When Geunhyeon edited $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ only 14 medical books were used and quotes copied from other texts were always reedited. Most of the origins of the collected text are shown under the index, but many do not match with the original text. Also many documents were copied from medical books from later times and not the primal text. 6. The annotated sections of $\ll$Chimgudaesung$\gg$ such as 'Yangsi(楊氏)', 'Yangsijip(楊氏集)', 'Yangsijuhae(楊氏注解)', 'Hyeongibiyo' are all from Yanggyeju's $\ll$Hyeongibiyo$\gg$. Of these the origins for the sections marked 'Yangsijip' can be found, but some of the origins for sections annotated 'Yangsi' cannot be found.
